We had an agreement to buy a resale (BCV) to add on some points but decided to call Disney and they had points available in our use year and at our home resort, so we added through them instead. It seems like a no-brainer for adding on through them versus resale. Am I missing something?

Buying directly from Disney you get your same us year and I believe your same member number. People buy re-sale in the hope to get a better price. We bought a re-sale at Vero for a lot less than what Disney wanted and I was told by MS that I probably would have a second member number. I will now have two use years to keep track of. Also buying through Disney is a lot faster. That said - buying resale if it passes ROFR will get you past the waitlist. So for BCV it is probably worth it.

Plutofan,

Thanks for the reply. Great points. I think we will go through DISNEY and just add to the same member number etc. With them picking up the closing costs, it was basically a wash, same amount out of pocket, etc.

Plus, if you add on through Disney in the calendar year before your UY begins you get the previous year's points. This was an added "find" for us, we thought we were just buying '06 points, but we got '05's too.

rwc :)

Yep, that was a nice surprise that they mentioned today. I was also impressed at how quickly I could start using the points to plan.

I just did a BWV add-on through disney. It was quick and painless too! Buying a smaller contract it does seem that the price is the same as buying resale. My points were in the computer in one day! That was great! ;)

Congrats on your BWV add-on. It was definitely more beneficial to us to add on via Disney rather than resale. Especially since we got our home resort and same use year.

I have a couple of questions about the add-ons. If I have an October use year and I buy direct from Disney, will I get all of 2005 and 2006 points? Do I pay maintenance fees for 2005 and all of 2006 or is is prorated somehow? Also, when the SSR discounts end, will the resale prices go up, too?

I can tell you what happened with my add on today. I added a smaller amount, received the 2005 points (without dues) and will have my 2006 allotment, which I will owe dues on. Not sure about SSR and the current promotion.

First of all, if you purchased now, you would get the 2005 points; however, you would not have to pay a full year of dues on those '05 points. The dues would be prorated based on the day the contract is drawn up (ie, the date you pay the deposit). You will also get all of the 2006 points on Oct 1, 2006 and would have to pay the full amount of dues on those in January 2007.

This is just my guess, but when the 15% promo ends, they will probably continue with the $8 off incentive, so the points would be $90 for SSR (with a minimum add-on purchase of 100 pts, $98 per point for anything less). They might throw out some other type of incentive along with it, but I wouldn't project them having a rate increase just yet. I honestly think they would roll back the $8 discount some before they raised the price again. I mean if they went up now, it would be at (or above $100 per point).

Anyway, JMO.

I added 50 points at BWV and I have an April use year. I did not have to pay MF for the 2005 points. I have to pay 2006. I would call your guide but I don't think you pay 2005 MF. :sunny:
