Now that weekend points (Friday & Saturday) aren't much more than weekday points, are people booking them or are you still booking Sunday-Thursday and moving out and doing something else to conserve points?

It used to be such a huge increase but not it's really not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Was never worth it to us. Dh and I like 'moving in', so we've never moved on weekends to conserve points, just not worth it to us. The new point allocation doesn't really affect us much, since we never moved to conserve points.

That being said, on shorter trips, we did try to plan on a Sunday-Thursday trip to conserve points. But overall, our trips are generally longer, so we're happy campers.

I guess that the point reallocation to even things out more was in direct response to the crazy maneuvering practiced by some members, they probably were experiencing alot of weekends where units were empty.

It seems like every time people exploit a situation it causes Disney to reexamine the policy and make changes. IMO

For us, the weekend point reduction helped us out so that we could pick the days we would go in the summer based on the cheaper airfare rate. It is cheaper to fly in/out of Syracuse if we left on Wednesday and included a weekend in our trip.

When the points were really high, we had to avoid staying Fri/Sat so we paid more for airfare. Now, it seems like a win/win for us.

This is generally true for all airports. Tuesday and Wednesday are the cheapest days to fly.

We have been empty nesters since we bought, and we would go for a long weekend, to the Flower show for instance, so we were paying the higher weekend points for our trips and I was very happy when the point allocation happened.

The only negative for us was that the beach cottages were so expensive on the weekends, and we never booked one on a weekend, the weekdays were so "reasonable" that when the points for weekdays came up so much, we bought a 50 point add on so we could still spend 3-4 nights in a beach cottage every other year. This is the "other year" so we just spent a weekend in a 2 bedroom at VB, definitely not as nice as a BC, but VB is a favorite resort with our family!

Now we have a Floridian branch of our family, and so we will have more weekend stays in 2 bedrooms when they join us. DH and I will still stay in studios when they're not with us.

I was able to get a treehouse for a 3 night Halloween weekend. I went on a waitlist for it at 7 months, and it came through in less than a month. I think there must still be people who do not book Friday and Saturday nights.

Although I considered it a few times, I never avoided weekends due to point cost.

I have been tempted to go visiting POR for a night or two though - have some good memories there, it's just gotten too expensive for a basic room without a proper balcony or kitchenette :rotfl:

We were Sun thru Thurs travelers before the point reallocations, now we book weekends on a regular basis. So they got the desired effect of the point reallocations on us.

Ditto! We once moved from BWV to Dolphin for a weekend and then back to BWV on Sun. What a pain that was!! Never again!!

I don't think it was exploitation on the part of the owners that caused the re-allocation, everyone is free to use their points as they see fit. That's how DVC was sold, not your typical stringent timeshare, flexibility of travel days and accomodation size. From the start in 1991 (?) and as more people bought into DVC and travel patterns changed DVC reallocated because it suited their purpose or should I say their bottom line because in the end that's why they make changes!

I'm a Sun-Thu DVC'r and will always be, no matter if/when they re-allocate points again. I buy Fl Resident weekday only annual passes, the parks are less crowded during the week and that's how I choose to use my DVC.

It hasn't change the way we vacation. We go for 14 nights and we don't change resorts for weekends. However, we have changed a few times, if the dates were unavailable. Other than that, we would prefer to stay in one place for the full two weeks. :)

It has not really changed our habits. We usually have a Friday and Saturday night in our plans so no real difference.

Now if flights were cheaper we would consider more shorter stays but I cannot justify the cost of flights for us to take mulitple trips just to go Sun-Fri

It's not exploitation to use the rules as set up. They set the rules, we use them, then they adjust them if needed.

Same here, we were S-F and are more likely to book weekends only now using points. At some point they'll have to adjust back the other way, no way around it without some type of min stay.

We've always had both weekend nights in our trips, so it hasn't impacted how we travel.

We used to go for 12 nights, Sunday through the following Friday to avoid two weekend nights. Now that the points are lower (and airfares aren't), we'll be taking advantage of those two extra nights on our upcoming trips.

Love the new point allocations. We normally went from Saturday to Saturday anyway. But now I don't feel like we are wasting points by adding a Friday or Saturday night to the week. We stayed Friday to Saturday this past trip. Hope they keep them as is. But Dean is probably right. They will probably reallocated them again.

Exactly the same here.

We were always Sun-Thurs. This year we went Tuesday-Sun just because our scheduled worked out that way, the point reallocation did make that an option. Sun-Thurs is still the way we go usually though. For me it not only is the cheapest point-wise but it also allows me keep the two Saturdays open for my wedding photography! Having to make reservations so far in advance it is good to keep my Saturdays open so I can still book a wedding before or after the trip.

I'm not sure why, but I've always been a Saturday to Saturday vacationer. I think it's just how I was raised, we always went Saturdays to Saturdays. Growing up in the summer time at the Jersey Shore, my family would always rent a shore house and they usually only allow renting Saturday to Saturday. When we bought DVC, that didn't change, regardless of the points. Though I will admit, I am paying more attention to all of the options, I still don't see me changing my vacationing habits.

Since buying into DVC, our intent has been to be S-Th users. We've made a few S-Th trips, and to be honest, 5 nights is just too short. We are reexamining our future vacation plans and are looking forward to staying the weekend. We'll do fewer yearly AP trips, but will spend longer periods of time at WDW and will save on overall travel plans.
