Just Curious…. Are yours REAL or FAKE?

Ha ha! Love the title!!
I am a real girl all the way! When I was a kid my dad would buy a permit from the ranger station, the whole fam. would drive to the mountains, trudge through the snow and my mom and I would choose a tree that was twice as tall as our house (they look smaller out in the woods!) We would hit up a restaurant for hot chocolate and a burger on the way home!
These days my family goes to a tree farm, but we still try to find one in the snow (if possible), we still cut it down ourselves and we bring hot chocolate and Christmas tunes along for the ride!

Your last name wasn't Grizwald by any chance was it?;)
I hope you always remembered a saw or axe.

I grew up with a real tree and always want one. When DW and I got married I insisted on a real tree. But eventually we changed to a fake one seeing we have been traveling out of state the past few years It was really not a good choice to have a real tree. But I always loved a real one. :goodvibes

Fakers here:) We had real trees for many years and finally bought our first fake about 15 years ago. It was a nice one and lasted until about 2 years ago when we bought another fake with the lights attached. I can't see going back to real trees:santa:

an 8-9 ft real, 2 - 7 ft fake, a 5 ft fake (DD"s), and various small (2-3 ft) fake.

:wizard:

Fake. I'm a disaster with most plants. I gave up on trying to grow anything years ago. I imagine a real tree would be disastrous in my hands.

I hate to say it, but I've gotten to the point where I don't enjoy holiday decorating. If I didn't have a child in the house, I wouldn't even bother with a tree. I do have some ornaments I love so when I can give up the tree, I'm going to get a metal ornament thingie, put my favorites on that and call it a day.

I love real trees, but we have a fake one. We like to have our tree up by Thanksgiving until Jan the 6th (Epiphany). Doing this with a real tree would be a fire hazard!

Mine are fake. We have a 7 1/2 ft prelit slimline for our living room, and a 6 1/2 ft prelit for the kids upstairs.

I'd love to do a real...eventually. But my 2 yr old might eat the needles, and I'm horrible about remembering to water....

Mine are real and they're spectacular! :woohoo:

:rotfl:

Mine are fake and I love hanging tinsel on them.
:lmao: Oh Tag Fairy!!!

I like real trees better, but lately I have a fake one.

Mainly because I like to have it up as long as possible, but we travel quite a bit during the holiday season and a real one would dry out or be destroyed by our pets while we were gone. A fake one is a good compromise - we can put it up around Thanksgiving, enjoy it while we're home, and not worry about it when we're gone. If there ever comes another holiday season when we don't travel so much, though, we'll be going back to real.

Real, until a couple years ago. DW has allergies, and a real tree causes some problems, between dust and pollen, so we finally switched.

But until then - real, every year. My family owns a tree farm, so getting anything other than a real tree would be just plain silly. We still get a wreath every year, and I have joked about getting a real one to put outside.

FWIW - cutting down a tree every year from a tree farm is pretty eco-savvy. The trees are a renewable resource, after all.

Well I was wondering with Christmas around the corner are yours REAL or FAKE... your Christmas Trees? I started off my marriage with a real one and then when the whole save the earth, forrest and trees thing came about several years ago I bought a fake one. So now it's been 8 years and my fake tree is starting to look like a fake tree, though I love the fact that the lights are already attached to the tree and it's three easy pieces to put together, I not sure if I want to get another fake tree or if I should go back to a real one. Which one do you have and why?

Melissa

I had to get rid of our fake tree last year and I wasn't happy about it because it was prelit as well. I am getting a real one for the second time this year - I am highly allergic so I am hoping my DH and the kids can just decorate it and I'll be fine. The real ones do look nicer.

DH loves the real thing ;)

Every year I plead to get a fake tree but the majority rules in our house. Last year I got one kiddo on my side, he said he doesn't care what kind of tree we get as long as there are presents under it  I'm hoping this year one more will cross the aisle.

It's possible that you are allergic to the pollen or the dust that is on the tree. Strange as it may sound, when we had a real tree, I used to wash it off (including once in the shower!), and it made a major difference. You should also make sure the tree has been shaken - it will get out most (though not all) of the dead needles, dust, etc.

The type of tree matters too - you might have fewer problems with a white pine, since it is a more open tree than a scotch pine. Blue spruce or a fir (Douglas, Fraser or Canaan) might be good too.

Fake. Too many allergies to mess with the real thing, plus I hate the mess (and the high prices!!)

No, but trust me it should have been! :)
We usually took my dads '54 chevy named Hobart, but one year we did take a subaru wagon. My dad tried telling my mom and I that the tree was too big. We of course just KNEW he was wrong. I mean we are woman, we know about things like Christmas trees! My dad and my brothers hauled that thing over to the car through thigh high snow, hefted it to the roof and *poof* the car completely disappeared!! :scared1:
My dad had to hack so much off that tree to get it to fit in the house it didn't really even look like a tree anymore! You would think we learned our lesson but...well let's just say my husband and my dad have done quite a bit of bonding trading tree stories :rolleyes1

I have asthma and when I was young, I'd get very sick from a real tree. Now grown up with my own kids, we've always had real (don't bother me as much any more, luckily) ... but I'm not so thrilled with the prices (decent one around here is $45-60 - UGH) and the watering and cleaning up after.

After Christmas last year, we happened into a department store and there was a REALLY nice fake one right near the register. (lights on it and everything) I asked about it and they said it was $20!! Gasp! I bought it right then and there and I am thrilled to be able to put it up whenever I feel like it ... not just after I get a chance to go out and buy one ... either in the snow or rain ... yuck.

I'm happy to say I'll be fake this year!
:lmao:

Sadly, like others here, ours has to be fake due to Asthma in the house.

About 5 years ago we had a blast going to a Christmas tree farm as a family, picking it out and cutting it down and then decorating it. We were all so happy:cool1: and put it in the basement in our entertainment room. But in a few days my DS started to have trouble breathing. It was so bad we disconnected all his game systems and stayed out of the basement until after Christmas. What a bad decision... of course I probably should have known better but since I never had a real tree in my life before I just didn't have any idea.

Still, the magnificent tree we bought at Fortunoff the year we bought our home is still very pretty.

Artificial. All 3 of them. It's way too hot here to expect a "live" tree to be living very long. The last live one we had, DH got it on Dec 2, and we took it down on Christmas day, it was totally brown.

Last year he wanted a red one, with all gold decorations. So that was the one we used. This year I will have all 3 up, one is decorated with Mickeys only (4 ft green), the red w/ gold, and the tradtional green with all kinds of ornaments. It will be really fun to finally have them all up and the house all decorated.

we do a real tree. ours are from a tree farm that is replanted. I feel like its more natural/better environmentally.

I prefer the look and smell of real ones over fake ones. Plus cant ever get the fake ones branches to to look like they are hanging right.
