Just CANCELLED OUR TRIP-Afraid of the FLU

leopardspot,
You did the right thing.
I have not done pediatric medicine since med school,(adult cardiologist) but, if your pediatrician and pulmonolgist recommended staying home, then you did what any self-respecting parent should do, put your children first--no one else will.
If I remember correctly, a premmie is defined as a baby born before 35 weeks gestation, so a 36 or 37 weeker is considered to have arrived early, but not considered pre-mature--any pediatricians out there, feel free to correct me.
Anyway, you can sleep well at night knowing you did what was best for your child--the world needs more parents like you.
And you can start planning for a trip next year!
God bless and Merry Christmas!!!!!

why would you take a coughing kid into a theater?

Don't assume that because a child is coughing they are sick all the time. My daughter has asthma and allergies & tends to cough a lot but she is not always sick. When she gets coughing spells she uses her emergency inhaler to control it.

MELSMICE-How long do the coughing spells last with your daughter? The reason I ask is that my niece has asthma and she coughs for weeks at a time. I personally think that she has a cold when she starts this but my sister says it is just her asthma. The cough has a rattling sound to it. I always thought that an asthma attack lasts a couple of hours...What is your experience with it? Thanks.

In our NICU a premature infant (preemie) is considered any fetus born before 37 weeks. There are different categories of preemies, micropreemies, etc.

As an adult with asthma, I get coughs that last for weeks. Allergies or colds can start it, but then it lingers on.

As for the original post, I agree that it is leopardspot's decision, but wanting to quarantine all of us who live in states where there are flu outbreaks? A little extreme for me. I got my flu shot in October like I always do.

Her cough can last for weeks. In fact, she has one right now. When she starts with this she has to do her rescue inhaler more often and also do her Pulmicort inhaler 2X a day instead of one.

We'll probably be dealing with the cough all winter, and in fact, it probably won't subside until we get to Florida in April (we live in Buffalo, NY)

So, I am sure that many people believe she is ill, when in fact, she is fine, just dealing with her asthma. :earsgirl:

I think as a Mother you made the right choice for your family. It is your job as a parent to keep your children healthy (especailly when there are risks) and I believe you did your job perfectly!

Remember last year when the Norfolk Virus was going around the cruise ships? Well, after getting off the cruise ships people were staying at the WDW resorts. When we stayed last Decmeber at the Poly Concierge, our last night my eldest started throwing up all over the pool area, our room and his bed (Oh, what a fun last night). By the time we made it home my youngest son and myself were stricken with the Norfolk.

So, know Disney can spread some nasty stuff around. Not on purpose but with all those people and all those germs. It's bound to happen!:scared1:
