Hello everyone.
We've just returned from Universal, staying 4 days at Portofino Bay.
Had a WONDERFUL time.....
My first time there so I didn't know what to expect (other than what I've read). Staying on property was a life-saver because of the Express pass. Many times we walked right on to the attraction/show. At most we had a 10 minute wait. I know it cost a bit more to stay at an 'on-site' hotel, but in my opinion well worth it.
As for Eating (my favorite topic).....
Dinner at NBA the first night was good but not 'outstanding'.
Lunch at Mythos & Lombard's were both Very Good.
J.B.'s Margaritaville was also very good (dinner).
Friday night we went to the Islands Buffett at the Royal Pacific, limited selection but very good. Wife and I both had 'island drinks' which were outstanding.
Saturday night (our last night) we stayed at the Portofino and went to Trattoria for the Italian Buffett. VERY GOOD. Portofino has classically trained singers that sing both in the restaurant and out on the 'patio' area. Very impressive.
While on the subject of eating..... On our first night at the NBA our waiter told us about the specials, one of which sounded good "the 5 on 5" (basically a sampler of apps.). We ordered it without asking how much it was. Our bill comes and surprise, we ordered a $25 appitizer plate!! That one plate came close to doubling our bill. Lesson learned.
The CROWDS.
Wed and Thurs the craowds were not bad. Friday and Saturday a noticable increase in number of people.
my favorite rides..... D.Dragons, Mummy, Hulk, shriek 4D,
my least favorite...... Back to the Future, E.T., Jaws
I can't think of anything more. We had a great time. The Portofino is a very nice hotel (and BIG). The Royal Pacific looked very nice also. Both parks are wonderful and we will be back!!!!!!
If anyone has any questions write me back.
