Just got back from disney a couple days ago from a week at CBR. We bought into the DVC with points at VB. DH and DS are so excited. Our guide Bobby was great. We could have kicked ourselves though because what we have spent the last 4 years at disney would have paid for it almost. Oh well, you can't go back just forward. The one thing I am confused about is that Bobby did not mention anything about BCV being available. We were talking to him on Feb 1st. Does anybody know when they started selling that? Anyway, can't wait to get started on great vacations.

you have 30 days (or at least 10) to change your mind - if you want BCV say so NOW.

but I have an add-on at VB and I have been very happy with - have you visited this resort?

they start selling BCV on Feb 3.

Welcome Home Neighbor! We own and Hilton Head and are looking forward to our first trip as DVC members this fall!

Wordzy, IF you plan to use DVC primarily for WDW vacations, then you would be better off CANCELING your VB purchase and buying into BCV. The best rule of thumb for DVC is to buy into the property that you'll predominately utilize; you're then using the 11 month booking benefit to its maximum. On the other hand, if you plan to primarily stay at VB, then you're all set. You can still book at WDW using the 7 month window, but availability there may be more limited around holidays, peak seasons, etc.

Good Luck..............and WELCOME HOME........

Whatever you decide to do - Welcome Home!

I just felt this needed to be repeated:

"Buy where you plan to stay most"

This is the only thing that we all actually agree on.....

My guide said it doesn't matter where you buy (said he owns at OKW and never stayed there)! He said we should buy at VWL because it is smallest and may be harder to book for that reason. But it is not where I would always want to stay because we live in a wilderness area all year long! Was he just saying that to get us to buy?

I'm wondering how hard it is to reserve, period. I keep reading about everyone's struggles with getting what they want. Is VWL hard to get into because it is small? Is it hard to reserve other places 7 months ahead? I haven't done this yet, and am curious.

BTW, I would be happy staying at any of the DVC resorts!

As Richyams says, this is simply not true. It is important where you buy.

The 11 month/7 month advantage is critical if you plan on going during busy DVC times to WDW. It is less critical if you don't care where you stay and what kind of accommodations, but to say it doesn't matter is a flat out....untruth.

What is your opinion of the least busy season for DVC members? Is it the same as the off season listed in the guide book, or is that off season the time that the most DVC people go (to save points)? I prefer Oct. or Jan.....

I like to go the first two weeks in December - if you don't own at WDW forget this time period. I tried to change yesterday some days to BWV - I was told BWV is completely sold out for studios and 1-bedroom for this time period. (now they may have some Fri and Sat - but I don't generally stay on those days). Now there is some OKW left.

I have never had a problem getting October. I can't go in January (work won't let me) so I know nothing about it.

Thank you all for your input. We actually could have bought WL but we really aren't that big disney time and again people and VB interested us because it was on the ocean and my husband is a big dodger fan. We always go to disney area in the off season and figured if we wanted to be in VB for spring training games in dodgertown that we would need the home resort advantage. Does that make sense?

BE HAPPY THEN!!! - what made me think that you won't be happy at VB is that you say that you had been to WDW every year for the last 4, then you mention BCV.

but if you are flexible and change your vacation plans easily - you should not have a problem - the only time in October that there might be a problem is when the Master Play Golf - I am probably not calling it by the right name I don't play golf - but WDW has a big tournament in October.

With the information you provided, Vero will work well for you. If you decide to go to WDW, you still will have that option, but you will have to book your ressie at the 7 month window and that means that during certain times of the year, you may not be able to get the exact reservation you are looking for. I'm still a new member and live in a city (New Orleans) which has airline tickets for as little as $78 rt. So if I decide to go to WDW on a short notice, I just ask if any room is available at any resort and take what ever they have. I may go to WDW 5 times in a year. However, if you are very far away, and/or have only one opportunity per year or every other year to go to WDW, then the 11 month window is very important so that the trip you make will be at the resort you want and the type of room you want. If you are in my shoes, it doesn't matter as much. From your last post, it sounds like Vero will be an important place so long as the Dodgers have spring training there.

wordzylady.

You will be very happy with VB. We also just did an add-on there.
If you are pretty flexible, you won't have any problems getting a room at any of the Disney resorts, at the 7 month window, except x-mas and easter. And I would never stay during those peak times anyway, which are also the most points of any time during the year.
:D

Congratulations! If you are flexible about which resort at WDW you would stay at, chances are you'll pretty much always get something....they keep adding on at WDW all the time. Getting a place at Vero during Spring Training would be more difficult. One great feature is the wait list. Lots of people book early December and/or Christmas at 11 months but, over time, may change those plans. Usually, something comes through.

Your salesperson couldn't "sell" BCV until they were legally allowed to. They are very careful to follow the rules. Feb. 3 was the date they could begin offering the resort. If you think you might be interested in changing your home resort, I would call your guide right away and explain your thinking. Vero sounds like a good fit, but you should know what your BCV options are as well.
