Hi, I just booked for December 31, 2005. We are a family of 5. Three teen's 14,14,17. We have never cruised before. Only done the Disney park's. Our price is 7068.00 for 2 cat. 11 inside rooms. I think I paid to much from what I have been seeing on these boards? I new it was high but I thought It might be worth it. Now I just don't know? I am also worried that our kids are to old? Someone we know went two year's ago with teens and had a great time. Have things changed that much. Maybe I should change to rccl. Never cruised before I just don't know. I have been wanting to do this for a long time. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I am new to cruising . . .we are taking the land/sea in April 05.

DD will be 15, DS 11. I booked a Category 6 which has a verandah with the land portion booked at the Poly which includes the passes and resort. For a total of $3727. That was through Dreams Unlimited with their $100 discount.

Have you checked out Dreams Unlimited to get a quote? Or check www.allseastravel.com.

I am using an agent for this cruise because I never did this before, I hope you can get your total down.

Welcome to the DIS! Let's see if we can help.
I think if you're that concerned, gather info on the other cruises you'd be interested in and then get everybody together and have them decide. You might find that your teens want to do the Disney cruise. You also might find that right now that's not the thing they want and a different line might be better. Don't forget to check excursions also. That's a big part of the cruise experience.
And for the price you're already willing to pay, you'd get better accomodations, or have more money for excursions on a different line.

You are going on a prime week during the New Year's eve cruise, so the price will be higher......
The price seems correct for the week you picked.

I'm sure the teens won't be bored, there are loads of threads going about travelling with teens and they all seem to have a great time.

Also, notice that you have 2 rooms. So you are going to be paying more for that. The New Year's Eve prices are always pretty high. As far as whether the teens will enjoy it, I agree with DMS, ask them what they want to do. Check and see if they know anyone who's cruised, and see what they liked and didn't like.

Our first cruise, we had acquantainces who cruised a very similar itenerary on a different line, also out of Port Canaveral. Their ship was right next to ours in 2 of the ports. They had a 15 year old DD, and an 8 year old DS at the time. Their teen told me that she really wished they were on our ship, because theirs was "lame". I honestly don't remember which ship it was, but don't assume that other lines will cater better to teens.

Thank's for your reply's. I think we will love it. We all like Disney. I did not realize this was a new years cruise. I was just thinking about Christmas. That should be fun too. I am just going to think positive and soak in the good reviews. Do you think rooms 7063 and 7065 are good? I couldn't see paying any more for a balcony? Thanks

Hi, Tiggers.....

The one suggestion about gathering info from other cruise lines is a good one. You can compare prices, activities, etc.

However, as a DisneyCruiser about ready to take her third cruise in August and her 4th cruise in August 2005, let me tell you why my family (my husband especially) won't sail on another cruise line.

1. Staterooms: They are bigger than most ships and the layout is very nice. The one thing Disney has right now that no other line has is the split bathrooms. One has shower and sink; the other has sink and toilet. It is an excellent set up for a family of 3 or 4 or 5 .

2. Dining: You rotate your dining between three different themed dining rooms. On your repeat rotation, the menus change and/or you have a themed night (Mexican night, It's a Small World night -- foods from around Epcot, etc.) On almost all other cruise lines, you have one dining room every night. The menus might change, but the scenery is the same. The wait staff follows you from dining room to dining room every night and really learn your likes and dislikes. I love their dining rotation.

3. Activities: There isn't enough room here to list the activities. First of all, there are clubs for EVERY age group -- from a nursery for infants to a club for 2-5, 6-9, 9-12 and teens 13-17. My daughter LOVES the teen club. On the last cruise (she was 15 then), we never saw her. She made many friends and they have GREAT activities planned for the whole week for teens. They even get their own Navigator schedule. That's the first thing she goes to get when we get onboard.

4. They have three pools (adult, family and children), and an absolutely amazing spa area with all kinds of wonderful treatments you can get. They also have a very nice gym/fitness room.

5. The stage shows are fantastic with a lot of talented people. Also, they have a whole section for adults only with bars, dance clubs and an after hours adults only comedy club. They also have a very nice movie theater that shows several selections during the week (new movies, not old ones).

6. You NEVER have to worry about the staff. No one in my family has ever been pinched, sneered at or given the once over, unlike other cruises that some of my friends have been on.

7. The ship itself is amazingly beautiful. The outside is remeniscent of the Titanic with the red, black and white design. Inside, the foyers, stairway rails, elevators and floors are all hard wood and brass. And they are ALWAYS cleaning and polishing at all hours of the night.

8. But our favorite thing about the Disney Cruise Ships? NO ONE looks down on you for not having a tux for formal night or a sequined gown or diamond earrings. I have never felt out of place on their cruises.

9. And last but not least, their island on the last day is truly beautiful. They pull right up to the dock on Castaway Cay and you just step off the ship. They have an adult beach, a family beach and a teen beach. And then between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. they have the barbeque (included) with everything you can imagine from fresh fruit to chicken, ribs and corn, to salads to desert.

Anyway, last time we took the Eastern Caribbean I asked my husband if he wanted to try a different cruise line for a change -- and his answer was a resounding NO. The reason -- he said you know what you're getting with Disney and you don't have to worry about it.

I guess I sound like I own shares or something -- but we just really like the DCL way of life!

Hope that helps. Your teens will not be bored.

Actually it is cheaper to have two rooms. We are a family of 5 and it was cheaper for us to get a cat 6 and cat 11 (across the hall) than it was to get a cat 4.

As to the question about whether your teens will be bored, check out the navigators on Dave's site - www.dcltribute.com or Barb's site - www.castawayclub.com and see if the activities are along your teen's liking.

These sites (along with the board) are great sources of info thanks to Dave and Barb!

You are sailing at a "peak time". New Years is a desireable sailing that's why it seems a little more. I booked a cat. 6 and an 11 for the 4 of us on our 11/20/04 sailing and it was only 75.00 more for the two rooms than all 4 in one cat. 6.

You may want to consider 2 adjoining Cat. 10's. We've done that when we travelled with my MIL. It really is nice to have the door connecting the staterooms and also nice to have 2 bathrooms, both split.

The cat. 11's would only be side by side but not connecting, although probably not a problem with teens.

Also price out 3 people in the cat. 11 and 2 in a Cat 7 Navigator's. Just another option!

Have fun planning!
