We just booked our tent campsite for 12/25/09-1/1/10! We tried to get in for this Winter Break, and everything was booked. We had no idea that camping at Disney was so popular!!! My family and I are new to camping - I've only been 2x, but my husband has camping experience.

Does anyone have any words of advice or Fort Wilderness experiences to share?

Congrats on booking your dates. Just read around for FW experiences. Oh and Welcome to the Dis!:thumbsup2

You are going to have a great time :goodvibes One tip I can share is that if you want to dine in any of the sit down restaurants...make your reservations NOW. It can be really hard, if not impossible to get into restaurants around the holidays without reservations...even in the parks !!

Bring warm clothes and a small heater for your tent. Bring your bikes if you can...bikes and golf carts are a FUN way to cruise around the Fort :woohoo:

Thanks for the tips! We went to Disney last Christmas and stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. We had the best time ever. Since DH and I are teachers, winter break and during the summer is the only times we can go. I get terrible heat migraines, so the summer is out! I had to get my sister to make out dining reservations for us 180 days away from December 25th because we were away and couldn't call. It's a good thing because we wouldn't have eaten anywhere we wanted to go.

I wouldn't have thought about the heater, so we will be sure to get one. I wish we were going this winter break, but we had no idea that the campground got booked up so early....

We're going during the same time as you. 1/28/09-1/3/10
The tent camping prices are crazy!! $85 + tax until the 1st when it drops to $45 +tax. Maybe there will be a AAA discount for the last part of our stay but I doubt they offer one for the first part. The CM said AAA discounts were only posted for dates up to 12/17/09. I'm going to keep checking just in case.

That's a good thought. I also have AAA and didn't even think to ask for a discount! I have to stop being so excited to go... it's so far away!

I never had a lot of luck with AAA at FW. I got a discount one time, all the other times they told me there wasn't any available.

My AAA agent just booked Dec 27 - Jan 1 in a prefered pet site $106 plus tax and dog :scared1:

She told me NO discount during the holiday season - period! :sad1:

If someone comes up with one, I would love to hear it! I would upgrade to a premium pet site :dogdance: :dogdance:

Hmmmm, I might be mistakened, but Rhonda got me some if not all days with a AAA discount from mid to the end of Dec 2009. However, you might be right on the Holiday season discounts not being available, so I will take whatever I can get.
