I am not new to Disney but am new to camping there. we are going down Spring Break to tent camp. I was going to get an upgraded site but all that was left were standard tent/pop up sites. I was going to get the upgrade mainly for a better quality site and not for its location. We will bring bikes to get around.

Is there much of a difference in standard versus preferred or premium as far as shade, lot size and over all quality of the site itself?

Thanks!

You picked the right type of site for tent camping. Most of the other sites are concrete and not tent friendly unless you have an air matress. If you want to be near the pool and store request 1500 loop. It's a tent loop closer to activies. the 2000 loop is a tent loop as well but it's much larger and further away. Welcome to the boards BTW.

Welcome !
It's a great campground , you'll really like it.
So when you go, will you be doing the parks or just enjoying the campground ?

Yep, like Donnie said, you picked the best site type for tenting. All the concrete in the Premium sites isn't real tent friendly. You'd be paying more for something you don't need.

Watch out though....you might get hooked like the rest of us!!

Not sure why you don't want a partial site... the only difference is they don't have sewer connections. The 1500 loop is for tents and pop up campers. All the sites are great with lots of trees. Some back up to the canal. It is near the Meadows area - pool, campfire, movies, Meadows trading post.

It wasn't a matter of not wanting it, they weren't available. The tent/pop up were the only ones left.

So, do they assign a site number prior to arrival. I thought I had seen other posters mention what site they had before their trip but I may be confused. I didn't request a site location but I can call and do that. Thanks for the 1500 loop tip. I'll call and add that to my ressie!

We are going in March to tent camp for the first time at the fort too! When are you going?

You should be very happy with a Partial (tent/popup site) in the 1500 loop UNLESS you get one right near the bus stop. For example, 1501 is within 10 yards of the bus stop with 1502 -1503 within 20 yards. Since the buses start running quite early (before 7:00 AM) sleeping in might be an issue with a tent. The sites farther away from the bus stop might be more enjoyable for you. Check out the maps Shan-Man has added to the stickies at the top of the forum. Then check out this link for how to request a specific site. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2334364&highlight=request+a+site.

Wonder if we could ask for those sites??? We don't want to sleep in... :lmao:

Spring Break 13th-20th. We'll be in a 10X15 tent with AC and a stack of empty beer cans near the door. Ha!

Cool! Good info there. I'm going to check it out right now.

Loop 1500 had several recycle stations with milk crates for paper, plastic and cans. You'll be able to recyle all those beer cans!

I personally love site 1503. Close to bus stop and comfort station. I am hoping to get it our next trip. I am thinking about getting an a/c for our tent but it is a little heavy for me. I'll have to make do with a fan when we go in May. We survived mid May a few years ago with just a fan. Hopefully late May/early June will be just as nice.
