Just Between Friends & Consignment in General

There is at least one consignment event that guarantees your items, if you tag in the store. Meaning that if your item is missing or broken during the sale, they will pay you for it on pickup. This sale closes one day and you get your check and pickup your items the following day, all neatly sorted to consignor number. Don't know if I can post the name but it is mostly regional, in the south.

I'm doing my first JBF sale in about a week. I have a tagging gun that I could use to put the tags on clothing, but am thinking that safety pins will look "neater" and the tags won't be dangling/catching on things. . .

anyone have any advice on this?

Thanks!!!

Really need some Disney dining $$$$ !!!

Getting ready for our local multiples club sale now. We just converted to a scanner system and this will be our first sale using it. They are now asking for us to use cardstock, when in the past we just used regular paper for our handwritten tags. The tags I'm making now are larger and thicker and safety pins are a bit more difficult to use.

Many of our members are now on the hunt for tagging guns. I got mine but haven't tried it yet. I read on one consignment site that they require the plastic doodad to be 1" or less. I think if you stick with the shorter plastic, you'll have less trouble with tags getting beat up and ripped. I think they come in 3/4" and 1/2" too. I will also be placing the tag in the same spot I would if it were pinned (usually up near the collar of a shirt or on the back pocket of jeans or near the waistband of knit pants. Our pants and shirts go on tables. Dresses and outfits are hung.

Good luck! My inventory shows I have over $500 of stuff and it's really only about 2 tubs worth at this point.

Either will work, just be extra careful with tagging guns, as they leave bigger holes than safety pins. I turned down a ton of items because the holes from the tagging guns were too big (and as the clothes get shuffled, the plastic moves around making the holes bigger). Make sure you attach tags to the tag in the shirt and on the seam for pants. If you use the gun to attach your outfits, make sure that's on a seam and in a hidden area (say, where the arm would cover the shirt and the shirt would cover the pants/skirt).

Would you suggest that we use a light card stock over regular paper? Does it stay on better? I am going out to buy safety pins today and I can pick up some light card stock while I'm out.

When we went to the point of sale (barcodes) system, white cardstock was required, but I used it before. Paper, especially when the clothes are jammed on the racks, rips so easily. If you're taping your tag to a DVD or something flat, paper would be fine. :thumbsup2

I use a tagging gun whenever possible. Although that's getting harder to do with the trend in tagless shirts. I still use a fair amount of safety pins on pants, though...

our sale requires cardstock... white or pastel.

The scanning is so you know what sold (and makes it easier to keep track for the sale owner). You don't have to bring everything you made a tag for on the site. I keep my off season things on there as I assemble them throughout the year.

You'll know if you're missing anything when you pick up (as opposed to PP who said you'd have to wait for a list) since you can track your JBF sales online (ours is uploaded each night, others, especially if it's their first sale, may take a little longer). I knew exactly what I sold the night before pick up. I was missing a couple things, but, like I said, it's just gone. The rewards outweigh the possibility of losing items for me, though.

Each sale must work a little differently. I sell at a JBF sale, but like I said previously we don't know what's sold until several days after the sale is over. I wish our sales figures were updated each night!

For the PP who asked about using cardstock, I absolutely wouldn't suggest using anything else (the previous sale I used to participate in, not JBF, actually required it). Clothes get jammed in, stuff does not get handled gently (particularly if kids get their hands on it) and paper tears so easily. I get my cardstock at Walmart, I just bought a new package and it was like $5.50 for 150 sheets. I always try to print full pages of tags to minimize waste. The only downside is that I have to manually feed it into my printer and it likes to jam if I don't do it very precisely (YMMV depending on your printer).

Does anyone know how the website is updated so you can see what is sold? Is it as soon as the item is sold? Hourly? Or at the end of the day?

Our sale started today, and I went on to see what had sold, and there was stuff from yesterday on there, but not today. So I am guessing yesterday was a shop day for consignors or something. Anyhow, didnt want to be sitting here checking all day if it wont be up til tonight? KWIM?

These are all great tips. I keep meaning to do our JBF sale, but I always miss it. I've signed up for their email list, but they never send me an email. Then when I finally do think of it, I check the website and find that the sale has passed, or (like this time) its this weekend! I am going to check it out and see if I can find any bargains for myself.

I just checked to see if there was a Just Between Friends resale here in Madison and there is one today! I think I'll swing by and see what it's like. There is another one on the other side of town next month. Now I'm thinking about saving my bigger items (7/8, Mediums) for that sale and selling my baby items at the Pint Size Resale next week since the parents who shop Pint Size are looking for onlyt baby items as size 7/8 is the largest size you can sell.

What do you guys think? Should I save my larger stuff for later (and pay another $10 to cosign) or do you think there is less competion at the sale next week?

Ours are usually uploaded by midnight each night, if not earlier. That also depends on what time the sale closes each day.

When I checked out the website most of the sales at JBF seems to be for toddlers and younger. Those who sell tenn and adult items is there a group like JBF or are you selling at local only events?

Thank you for the great information. I found a sale this weekend where my mom lives but it is babies and toddlers only.

Our JBF sales range from newborn to 14/16. Our bigger sale also offer Mommy Mart to sell furniture (there are guidelines to acceptable furniture). Also, some adult items can be sold (picture frames, trendy bags, etc.) with the miscellaneous items. Some of the JBF sales also have a gift shop type area similar to Mommy Mart to sell health and beauty, gift-type items, etc. Again, they list specific items they can take.

There is a consignment sale in our area that carries juniors to adult sizes.

I took only my girls stuff and some of my sisters girls things. So we had a range of 5-Juniors. The lady that is in charge told me that bigger sizes sell very well because there isnt as many people bring those sizes. It is the first one I have done, so I thought I would see how it went. So far, Im happy.....it isnt over yet.

Not sure what I will do with my sons stuff...........garage sale or consign it.

How old is your son? I take 90% boy stuff and a few of my niece's things that we keep here that she's outgrown. I sell almost all of it. I can count on one hand the leftovers of his I have from the last three years.

Our juniors don't sell as well here. Maybe our juniors are pickier! :rotfl::snooty::lmao:

I am so glad to hear everyones experiences. I am participating in my first sale at the end of the month. I have over 500 pieces entered so far and some more to go. I am pricing things to sell and hope to have a good amount to cover shopping on Black Friday with what I make.

Hey there!

I was wondering how everyone who had a sale did last weekend :).

I am busy tagging things and my DH is at his wits end with kids clothes everywhere. I emptied out my DD's bookcase of baby books, easy readers and "green apple" readers about 3-4 months ago and those books sat in bags all that time (I was thinking eBay :rotfl:). I bought some gallon ziplocks and big 2 gallon ziplocks and made a bunch of book lots with them. I have 15 books lots (Clifford, Arthur, Level 1 readers, Berenstain Bears, Little Critter) worth over $100 worth to sell!

Our sale is not automated, so I am keeping a running total of my asking price in an Excel document. I'm up to over $400 and I still have more stuff to price :thumbsup2.

I am saving some of my bigger clothes (size 8) and the older kids books for the JBF resale. I think that they will sell better there than at the sale that's for little kids clothes only. I wish the Half Pint sale that I am consigning for this weekend had a way to opt out of the half price sale ... I would just keep what didn't sell at my asking price and sell it at the JBF sale for a bit less. C'est la vie ... the stuff will be gone and I will have some money!

How's everyone's prep/sales going? My drop-off is next Wednesday and even though I've still got a lot of work to do I'll be so glad to get all this stuff out of the middle of my house! Mommy2twingles, 500 items :worship: I feel overwhelmed and I'm only around 200 items!

If anybody has a moment I've got another pricing question, because this is my first fall sale in a cold climate! How much do you put on snow pants? For example, I've got a pair of Outbrook snow pants, girls size 6 in perfect condition, an OshKosh pair size 3T also in perfect condition...what's a good price? I bought these at garage sales and I don't have a clue what they go for new, just figured they'd be sought after since they're a necessity around here.
