Our family returned yesterday from a 10 night, 11 day stay at Riverside. This was our 5th trip as a family (my 17th) and it was one of our best trips! Many highlights along the way, with just a few complaints. We hit the parks for 6 days and did full commando, up at 5am, home at 11pm. We're tired now that we're home, but my kids were real troopers while we were there and got so much done! We also spent a day in Clearwater/Sand Key and visited Winter the dolphin and enjoyed some downtime at the beach, as well as a full day at Downtown Disney and day another resort hopping/sea racing/ swimming. Here are some highlights:

- The newly refurbed Alligator Bayou rooms! I requested building 38 prior to arriving, but was told my request for that building wasn't met upon check-in. The manager moved things around and got us in building 36, which worked great. We loved it there! The room was spotless and we loved the updated theming. Felt well worth the money spent!

- The staff at Riverside! Terrific, helpful people who answered any and every question we had. We also took the kids on a surprise carriage ride and had a wonderful driver who talked to us about the resort as we made our way through. The kids loved it, and it reminded us that the magic doesn't just happen at the parks!

- Pirates League! Wow, this was probably the BEST part of our vacation. All 3 of my girls got pirate makeovers, and honestly loved every minute of it. DH and I enjoyed watching the girls transform and got a kick out of the CM's doing the makeovers. We went on Pirates right afterwards, then hit some other rides in Adventureland, and it was twice as fun walking around with pirates! One of the CM's approached me when we were ready to check out and thanked me for bringing my girls in. It touched my heart- she didn't have to go out of her way to say so. We will definitely be back, no doubt!!!

The parks were very clean, the CM's nice and helpful, and most importantly, the other guests were kind and friendly. So many lovely families there were having a great time, and all were polite despite the massive crowds. We had nice conversations with quite a few families and were always interested to discuss how many times they had been, where they were staying, etc.

This trip was to celebrate my DD's 7th birthday so we did quite a few additional things to make it special for her, like door decs, Jefi Training, Characters in Flight, and the Wishes Fessert Party. She had the "best birthday" ever :) Disney still gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling and we will be back just as soon as we can refill our wallets for Mickey. Until then, I will be treating my post-Disney depression by reading the boards and living through the rest of you who are on your way to the most magical place on earth!!!

It sounds like a great trip :)

Maybe you can tell me the secret to keeping my kids happy at 5am!

LOL, ain't that the truth!? Thanks for sharing -- sounds like you had a great trip!

Love it! Thanks for sharing! We go in 29 days & my son is doing Pirates League so I was happy to hear the review :) It's also great to hear from someone else that lives in Wisconsin. Can't wait!

So glad to hear such a positive review. Thanks for sharing some of your magic with us. I can't wait to go and posts like this just make it that much more exciting.

Glad you had a great time! My girls will be doing the Pirates League for the first time in May. They are very excited about it. We'll also be doing the Wishes Dessert party for my daughter's birthday.

What a marvelous, magical trip you had :tinker: Thanks for the very upbeat, positive report :thanks:

What did you do during your full day at Downtown Disney if I may ask? We are facing that for a small group of ladies, and I'm afraid we won't have enough to do for a full day (10ish - 5ish).

Ok, may I borrow this phrase ? Hi ho Hi ho
it's off to work I go... Refilling my wallet for Mickey! It almost
makes me want to go to work right now!

Thanks for sharing, glad you had a great trip :wizard:

Glad to hear you had such a great trip!! We would like to try POR on a future trip. Did you feel like you had enough room for all 5 of you in 1 room?

Also, we are trying the Pirate's League in June. Did they let all 3 of your girls go at once? I have 3 kids also and had heard it two at a time?

Thanks for such a positive review!! Makes me even more excited!!!

LOL, absolutely! I often think about earning Disney money when I find myself NOT wanting to be at work. It helps get me through and keeps me sane. Doesn't it do that for all of us???!!! :rotfl:

I would love to do the Pirates League with our three DD too! Did you have to reserve in advance? How long did it take? Can they pick out costumes there as well? Pricey??

It's funny our DD's have seen video of BBB and think the hairdos would "hurt"! Thanks for the great report!:flower3:

Yes, we had plenty of room for us all. We found the bathroom to be on the small side, but nothing that couldn't be dealt with. The queen beds are wonderful and the trundle was GREAT! My 9 & 7 year olds took turns sleeping on it and thought it was very cool :thumbsup2

I originally booked 2 PL appointments together first, with the third immediately after, but they ended up taking all of them at the same time. I was a crazy woman trying to get pictures, but it was so much fun. They also took them in the back room together, which made it extra-special having it done as a group. So, unless they are super busy, I would imagine them taking your family all at once as well. Enjoy- you will LOVE it!!!

Yes, definitely reserve in advance. We picked a morning time, before they potentially got backed up, and to also allow us time to be in Adventureland as pirates :cool1: The girls got a lot of comments on their get-ups.

It took no longer than an hour from start to finish, total, for all 3. We did not purchase costumes, but they are available when you check in. My DD3 begged for one, but it was $60, and I thought it looked a lot like one I had seen at Toys R Us for $15, so we declined. The total for the all 3 was around $110. They leave with their makeup done, a bandana, eye patch, nail polish, necklace, glitzy face stickers, sash and a sword. Well worth it, for sure!

What a great trip you had! I'm not familiar with Winter the Dolphin, what is this?:confused3

Winter was the subject of the movie Dolphin Tale. Great family movie! She lives at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. She was rescued from a net, had to have the end of her tail amputated, and was rehabilitated at the aquarium. There isn't a whole lot else to do or see there, but my girls fell in love with the movie and just HAD to see her in person ;)

Another Wisconsinite delighted by your positive report!!!! Just reading it makes me so excited to go back! And, add another one to the "thinking about work as filling my wallet for Mickey" list. :)

Hope your Post Disney Blues don't last too long (maybe our early spring will help keep them at bay.) :)

We started our day by doing the Characters In Flight balloon ride. This operates only if the wind is not too strong. We saw it up and running when we arrived, so we dashed on over in case the weather changed later in the day. It was a truly unique experience and incredible to see Disney from that vantage point. While brief, it is worth trying once.

Following the ride, we shopped at Marketplace for a good two hours, then had a nice lunch at T-Rex. Following that, we continued our shopping at Marketplace, then made a stop at Goofy's for a sugar fix . By the time all was said and done, we had been there from 9:30am until 3:00pm. I could have stayed longer as well because we didn't get everything in (a look inside the Lego store or an ice cream stop at Ghirardelli's).

I think you would easily be able to fill your day there, especially if there are large crowds. We had long wait times to check out, which set us back, and because there is so much to look at in the stores, I definitely think your time would be filled to make for a full day.

Have fun!!!

Thank you so much!

The Disney blues- ugh. Despite our early spring, I have felt cold since we got back. The weather in FL was near perfect while we were there. Low humidity and it rained once for 3 hours in 11 days. Very tough to say goodbye to!

A positive, upbeat report - how refreshing!!! :flower3:

Glad you had a wonderful stay! My DD's want to do Pirates League this time as well pirate: they have done BBB and they would rather be pirates than princesses.
