We just returned from a wonderful trip, December 17-26. Overall it was quite magical, but we had some major villains messing with our Pixie Dust! I will post a trip report but here are some of the highs and lows
Here we go
This trip was a family reunion Christmas, including my family, the grandparents, and my brothers family. We wold be coming from Arizona, Wisconsin and Washington to gather in the World for the Holidays!
Our trouble started on December 13 when my mother (66 and with heart failure, but doesn't look a day over 55!) was rushed to the hospital by ambulance for an emergency appendectomy. Go figure.
While it gave us a scare, at least it wasn't anything she couldn't recover from. HOWEVER, she certainly couldn't fly on the 17th as scheduled, so my Dad paid through the nose for new tickets to come out on the 21st--at least they wouldn't miss the Hoop Dee Doo!
It was still a major bummer though--her time with the grandkids would be cut short, espcially 12 year old Riley from AZ whose evil mother (yes, evil, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!) was making him fly home on Christmas eve, rather than the 26th with the rest of his family. So Nanna and Poppa would get three days with him. However, the important thing was that Nana was OKAY, and she WOULD be making it to Disney World, and our family WOULD be together!
The next major blow came when my family arrived at the airport Hyatt our first night. I called my brother to let him know we had arrived and were checked in, and the "extra" room was ready for Riley (since my parents were delayed, we had an extra room--non-refundable since booked through Priceline, but I still won't complain for $45.00!
). We thoght Riley would appreciate a little privacy from his 2- and 4-year old brothers. Well, lo and behold, when I get my SIL on the phone, she tells me that Riley isn't coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whaaa?? Riley isn't coming???
Riley's mother called my brother while they were ON THE PLANE ON THEIR WAY TO ORLANDO and said that Riley had bronchitis and she wasn't going to put him on the plane. SHE CALLS THE DAY WE ARE ALL FLYING OUT!!!!!! THE DAY HE IS SUPPOSED TO FLY OUT!!!! And no, she won't delay and send him 1 or 2 days later. Evil woman.
This makes the THIRD CHRISTMAS in a row that my brother has not had his son Riley for Christmas. Last year was my brother's "year" in the every-other-year set-up, and his mother kept him because of some suppposed big family to-do. Then THIS YEAR, even before the supposed "illness" (When we talked to him on the phone he sounded just fine, but maybe I'm just too mad to be charitable), she refused to let him stay through Christmas, insisting on a Dec 24th return, claiming again, some "special" family function. Of course, his not coming AT ALL solved that early-leaving thing, didn't it?? Bottom line: this makes three years in a row he hasn't been with our side of the family at Christmas.
When she decided he was too ill to fly, his mother should have delayed his flight by 1 or 2 days and then allowed him to stay with us through the 26th. My 66 year old heart-failure patient mother, who had just had MAJOR ABDOMINAL SURGERY, was getting on a plane anyway, because she wasn't going to miss out on seeing her grandkids. Now she wasn't going to see Riley at all
.
And I haven't even mentioned the $$$$ side of it--my brother was completely out the $400.00 plane ticket (no, even paying the change fee doesn't help because you can't change destinations apparently, and a flight from AZ to Orlando is pretty useless when he lives in Wisonsin), the $250 expiry hopper ticket, the MVMCP ticket...
Yes, I stand by my contention that the woman is a villain trying to steal our Pixie Dust.
And was that all?? Oh no. We had plenty of magic, but at the end of our trip, beginning on the 25th I believe, we started dropping like flies. Yes, some evil virus attacked and the puking began
. It started with 4 year old Tallon, hit 6 year old Annika on Christmas day, follwed with 2 year old Tanner, worked its way through my brother Steve, my father, and me! Horrible stomach cramps and lots of vomiting. Lovely. Just lovely. Follwed by extreme fatigue for several hours. My SIL got it as well, but she seemed to get a mild version that spared her the worst. It did strike on her travel day however, and her trip home was rather uncomfortable. My DH and my mother escaped the nastiness altogether. At least it didn't last longer than a day!
But I want to report that even though our Pixie Dust was under attack, we did not lose it!!! We had plenty left to go around, and really did have a magical time. MVMCP was fantastic, we ate for the first time at the Sci Fi Diner and had a BLAST...the Boardwalk was so much fun...my 4 you Power Ranger crazy nephew got to spend quality alone time with all of the Power Rangers...absolutely magical!
