Just back Tour Groups, EVC's and Strollers

Aspen, CO buses have places on the outside where you hang your ski gear. That would solve the stroller problem if Disney could hang the strollers along the outside of the buses. (kidding)

Very nice summary, JimmyV ! :thumbsup2

Disney will not bite the hand that feeds it. Technically there are also no rules against chanting or cheering in line, pushing, or line cutting. And we all know how everyone enjoys those things :)

Disney does actually have a size limit for strollers. Now enforcing it, that is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

The things you have mentioned above are common courtesy issues. I can't think how anyone would agree, without the guidelines Disney already has in place, on what the size of stroller would be that went above using what other people would consider courteous. Way too subjective.

Great summary JimmyV!

I suspect some will regret their decisions once they are faced with the fact that they can't possibly carry two sleeping babies, their bags, and hold on to two wheeled La-Z-Boys at the same time.

This! Our first family trip, DD was barely 3 and DS was almost 5. We took two strollers. A regular Graco stroller (with the basket underneath, you know the kind, part of a "travel system" that comes with the infant car seat) and an umbrella stroller. This worked GREAT! I was so glad we didn't take the double stroller, too huge and hard to manuever and having 2 strollers allowed us to split up occassionally (and DS sometimes just walked).

BUT!! There is no way in HECK, I would have wanted to get on a bus in that situation! I could only imagine. Stand in line, have DH hold both kids' hands while I take the bags out of the bottom of the Graco. Hand him the bags or set them on the ground. Fold up the Graco. Again, hand it to him or lean it against something? I don't know really. Then fold up the umbrella stroller. Then, somehow, the 2 of us manage finageling (is that really a word? Spelling?) both folded strollers, bags (diaper bag and small cooler) AND both kids (probably tired) onto the bus, hang onto them all the way, whether standing or sitting, then disembark. Does NOT sound like fun!!!! For us, OR for anyone around us in line or on the bus, whom I'm sure we would accidentally bump into at SOME point in that scenario!

We drive to Disney, so we solved the whole problem by staying at the Poly, number one. Monorail to both MK and Epcot, no stoller folding needed. And then we drove to DHS, AK, DTD and BB. Much easier for us. Load the kids into the car, THEN unload the stroller, then fold them up and stash in the back. All without a crowd of people around us, at our own pace.

We like using our own car so much, we still do it, even without strollers now. Anywhere the monorail doesn't go, we drive. I did want to stay at DTD longer than the others one time, though, so I took the bus back - it is nice to have that option!!

Just wanted to add to the "why don't people get it" thing.....This last trip, on our last night, the Epcot monorail went down when we were trying to head back to the Poly. That means a bus to the TTC. We had to wait in a long line for several buses. About 5 people ahead of us, the family had a stoller, with the child still in it. I was wondering the whole wait, are they just letting the child sit longer (makes sense), or is this gonna be a problem???? It was a problem. They went right up to the bus door and tried to lift the stroller on. They were told no, of course, and oh the arguing. Mainly that the monorail was closed, so they should be allowed to do it, just like on the monorail. No luck. They were VERY unhappy. We ended up being cut off from that bus just in front of us (no problem- guaranteed forward facing seats on the next bus!! I get motion sick, so I like forward facing), so I dont' know if they continued to grumble and complain. But they sure were as they got on!

I don't have any problems with any of your complaints. I already said I don't use buses much but the times I have I noticed most people with strollers (except maybe small umbrellas) usually move to the back of the bus near the ecv section. So yes, if someone just stops in the middle of the ailse then that is rude, whether they have a stroller or not. And yes, if someone runs into you with a stroller, saying "I'm sorry" is expected. But, on the other hand, just because someone is pushing a stroller does not give others the right to cut in front of them like they don't exist and then be angry when they're bumped. It's just simple etiquette on both sides but like I said earlier, people can and will continue to be rude and inconsiderate. Some will have strollers, some not but some people on this thread lumped everyone with large strollers as rude and inconsiderate.

Exactly!

It's like a train wreck. You just can't help but "look." These threads never cease to amaze - OMG the debating!!! Yes, strollers have gotten bigger over the years and yes, MANY people that use them are responsible stroller drivers. But there are still some that use them as battering rams. Now that my kids are of walking age, I just try to keep out of the way of the strollers. They don't bother me either way...

popcorn:: (I've always wanted to use that popcorn munching smilie)

Train. Wreck. Must. Look. :scared1:

I especially love the reference to mini-SUV's and rolling nurseries and LazyBoys. :rotfl2:

Pass the popcorn!!

Oh, shoot, might as well go for broke!! The last time we were at Food and Wine, there were TWO drunks sharing an ECV. Seriously!! Now you can tell me they BOTH had disabilities and maybe their appearance of intoxication was one of their symptoms, but the drinks in their hands said otherwise (I think that's why they had to share, it's hard to drive one of those things with only one hand, so he needed help)

now I dare someone to say that it was them and their one-handed partner, and the beverage was soda, and they both have a disability that makes them appear drunk.

I would say it was two drunk guys with no disabilities driving the ECV, who had stolen it off a handicapped person, who was left flat on his butt, quietly whimpering.

I use a stroller because my daughter has a medical condition that requires it,It isnt something visable just looking at her and it would be nice to not get glares.

OMG!! I didn't even think of that senerio!!! Or maybe they found it in the hallway at the Beach Club with the keys in it and took it out for a joyride!!
:rotfl:

I did see something interesting in the MK one day. This park is naturally the one with the most strollers and it is the smallest park so therefore it does at time become congested.

There was this one family, you know how at times you see the same family over and over. Well they had this stroller that was so honking big, it looked like a small semi.

And Mom was forever it seemed bumping the heels of everyone around. Interstingly later on in the night, I would see this family come out of the attraction and could never seem to find the semi, as it was never where they left it.

I guess the karma elves moved it. :lmao:

And no I did not do it, but I did see the man that did. :rotfl2:

I have no problem with any stroller, ECV, etc. Just please try not to hit the back of my legs. I've used a stroller when my children required it, but was always mindful of people around me. I never used it as a battering ram. I never had the mindset that since I had a stroller, I always had the right of way. I never pushed my stroller ahead of other families during parades. I ALWAYS folded up my stroller before going on a bus or even a boat.

Last visit, we were practically mowed down by the strollers. I think common courtesy should be used - especially in a crowd. And, seriously, some people don't believe in following rules. You get that everywhere. I can only imagine how some people operate their cars. They should have a license to drive a stroller. :) :)

I am happy that this visit, we will be stroller-free. But, I would not hesitate to rent one if the need arises.

I'm one of those people who think you should wait to bring kids until they are old enough to experience it, not tiny ones who just sleep, eat and poop all day and really have no concept of where they are. I understand the folks who bring strollers for little ones who can also walk, those strollers are usually smaller and fold up nicely. It's those infant 18 wheelers that drive me bonkers!!!!

Seriously? Wow.

I am renting 2 double strollers for our upcoming trip and I have no qualms about it.

Not to highjack the thread, but how do you wrangle 2 double strollers, 2 4-year-olds and 2 too young to walk onto a bus? You must have other adults traveling with you. Either that or you’ve taught the 4-year-olds how to fold and carry a double stroller!:goodvibes

I've been rammed by ECVs driven by crazed senior citizens. I've been hamstrung by oblivious parents pushing strollers, large and small. I've been nearly bowled over by a child in a wheelchair who had NO concept of how to steer it or how to move at any speed other than warp. (Not his chair, or so I hope.) I've also been trapped in the back of a bus by a stroller parked in the aisle and preventing any movement.

I've also been knocked down by oblivious pedestrians who kept right on going, as if bowling over a 5'10" 180 pound adult was too insignificant to get their attention.

All this, and I've never BEEN to WDW or DLR, so I'm certain that it's not just the House of Mouse that has a disproportional share of inconsiderate folks. (I'm looking forward to finding out in person, though.)

You don't have to defend your use of an ECV, regardless of whether you're paralyzed from the waist down, or you run Ironman triathlons for a hobby. You don't have to defend your choice of stroller. or the age of the children riding in it. All you (that's YOU) need to do, if you use one of these devices, is to do so responsibly, and be considerate of others.

And if you see or are the victim of someone being inconsiderate or just an *** in general, then you can choose to either deal with it on the spot -- which may have interesting consequences, just sayin' -- or to let it pass.

And then... LET IT GO. Don't get your underoos in a wad, don't let it ruin your vacation, just let it go.

Sheesh. It's Walt Disney World, folks! Try relaxing and actually enjoying it! That's certainly what I intend to do when I finally get there, even if I have to hobble on a broken foot from some doofus in an ECV running over my foot a couple of times.

I am renting 2 double strollers for our upcoming trip and I have no qualms about it. I am not breaking any rules and I'd like to think that I do my best to be upstanding person.

However, as my grandpa always told me, You can't please all of the people all of the time.

So if you despise me, my large yet young family and my two big strollers so be it. I am doing nothing wrong. I also suggest to anyone who wants to judge me that you walk a mile in my shoes before you open your mouth.

Sorry, but no one is judging. As many folks have said, most people follow the rules and do fine. But people are also allowed to be annoyed at the number of strollers taking up space on buses, running into their ankles, or whatever annoys them that day.

It's like sitting at the lunch table at work and having one of those conversations with your friends like "Oh my gosh, did you SEE what XXX did at the meeting. That annoys me SO much." Then someone else would be "I know - RIGHT?" then you all talk about it and have a laugh. Even though you/I may have done the very same thing on some other day.

That used to happen here, but now it turns into "hey, I do that so you must be criticizing me and all of us who do that" rather than the "I know - I've seen that too" fun conversations where we all laugh and become friends.

Instead, we all become enemies. I wish we were friends instead.

I've never even noticed the size of strollers. I thought they were just umbrella, regular, double, etc.? I hate to say that we will be using our "big" stroller for DD this fall, because the umbrella one doesn't have shade. We won't be using any buses, because we are driving, but I'm just wondering if I have one of these offensive strollers

Somehow I knew the thread was going to go here... popcorn::

ECV's have become a necessity in my Disney travel since an accident (shattered knee) and I was so happy the thread left EVC use alone. Oh well.....

I suppose my only stroller comment would be.....that some drivers could pay a little more attention to what they are doing. I know the first time I had to rent a scooter, I took some time in POR's parking lot to get used to the speed settings, driving in reverse and parking before I graduated to driving in public.

Perhaps the jagunda stroller people (strollers not the people - haha) could benefit with a little practice (or at least courtesy for others).
