Thanks to everyone for the entertainment today.

My family has been in the parks with large tour groups that happened to be from South America. We zigged when they zagged...but big groups just aren't my thing (I know, I know then why go to Disney :rotfl:). Some of the chanting/singing from SOME of the groups can be a little much especially when you are trying to take in the auditory magic of WDW, but make your own magic. We dined with the DDP and never came across large groups of ADRs, so can't comment as some dissers have with encounters in the restaurants.

Disney may provide the inspiration and a little pixie dust, but how you use it is up to you.

As for teachers being door mats.... I am a teacher for a post-secondary special needs program and there are many times I feel like a door mat! It is not fellow dissers that make me feel this way, but the school's administration who doesn't back up its teachers and do everything to please the parents and students even when the student was clearly in the wrong (general and special ed students). And when parents threaten lawsuit watchout...then no matter what the student has done or not done it is the teacher's fault (even when the law and evidence is on the school's side). So in the school system, yes, I am a door mat because I want to keep my job! But I do agree that my "teacher voice" is rather "commanding"...has to be with 16 students and 7 assistants (who can act more childish than the students).

I'd also like to comment on the comments about park families chanting/singing back. It is not necessarily to harass the groups. In our program we often use role playing to show students the incorrect and correct way of acting. For students acting out the correct manner in which to act is enough for them to realize what they are doing is incorrect. For others it takes seeing how they are acting (through teachers or other students role playing or videoing their behavior) that helps. I will admit that it does not always work as some will never realize, using either method, that they are in the wrong.

Thats neat. I teach highschool special education. I agree about the doormat thing.

Im not worried about chanting. I am worried about line holding/cutting and running over or pushing my kids. Did you experience any of that.

We never experienced that, but like I said when they went one way, we went the other...guess there is something good about the big flag.

As for line cutting a group of people wouldn't be getting past us without them using physical force to get past me in the que (I just stand my ground really well). It is one thing if it is a parent bringing back a child who had to use the restroom, but a group of teens or adults who just want to meet up with friends...ummm, NO!

Your trip is what YOU make of it. Doing research is a great way to start, but take everything with a shaker of salt! PM me if you have any other questions about anything else I amy be able to help with. We leave Tuesday for 2 weeks (sorry, not to rub it in), but I am, willing to offer any plans that have worked for us. Have a fun time planning and a Magical trip! :wizard:

Talk about picking one comment and beating it to death.

Yes, I owe every thing I have or ever will have to that fabulous teacher I had in second grade! :worship:

Why is your job any more important than any other?

How would you feel if the guy who works at the electric compay expected you to thank him for any use of the electricity that he was kind enough to provide you? Or the manager of your local hardware store where you got those hinges 10 years ago?

Doesn't make sense.

Beating it to death? I made 2 comments about it. Maybe your teachers weren't that great.......although, I think counting would be taught by your parents, right?

I never said that my job is more important than anyone else's. Ever. Don't put words in my mouth.

Although, I do give a heck of a lot more credit for where I am today to my teachers than I do to the owner of the gas station I bought gas at 10 years ago, or the person who handed me the Big Mac out of the window last month. I will say, though, I do fully realize that everyone who works has a job that is important to someone out there. Does that include government workers too? ;)

Why did you go to school? Just wondering, because, from your posts, it doesn't seem like you placed any value at all in any of your teachers (and I deduced that from your sarcastic comment about your 2nd grade teacher). I feel bad for you, and maybe you should have been home schooled if their work was so meaningless.

One more thing--from the posts of a particular teacher on this thread, I can understand why some might not place any value in any teachers--because oh my, his/her spelling is horrible!

 That is a hot-button issue for me...I can't wait till one of those threads pops up, wooooo!

PS - what is the code for the dang popcorn-eating smiley? I can't find him!

When you are typing your reply to a thread check out the "more" selection that is clickable at the bottom of the selection of smilies (which you probably have tried), but then expand the window out to the right to double or more of the size that it pops up as (which took me quite a while to notice) ;)
