Hi all,
I just wanted to let you all know we had a great week at Discovery Cove/Seaworld & WDW. After arriving Sun nite and seeing how much pain he was in we called Care Medical. We were told to call Mon am which we did and when we arrived back from DC the chair was there. My son had no problems with his foot at DC on Mon. I'm so glad we rented, we really needed the chair for the rest of the week. Seaworld was wonderful with him and us. They kept the chair in guest services until we needed. We explained at each ride that he was mobile but needed to keep unecessary weight off his foot. Regardless, they had us always go through the handicapped entry.
Some parts of WDW were frustrating. Kilamajaro Safari was a pain. I couldn't believe they only had 3 out of 41 trucks dedicated to the disabled. We also explained we could go through the standby, but they still insisted he go through the disabled entry. Also I was amazed at how many people they will let through the handicapped entry with the disabled person. On one ride the person in the ECV came through with 10 other people.
I do want to say to those of you who care for those who are disabled and to those of you that are disabled, I salute you. I have always been one of those people who leave nasty notes on cars in HP parking spots (that really irks me!). I have always thought to be in tune to those around me needing help and assist those if they need it. However, I have to say all of you are amazing for putting up with the the ignorant people that are still out there! The doors that are let go of as you are trying to get through (as my son's foot is slammed by the door). The people who walk right in front of you when you are trying to manuever. The dirty looks from others that think you are trying to scam the system. A couple times I had to say "not all disabilities are visible".
Once again thanks to all...you are great!
