Hi all!! I just got back from an amazing Disney trip. I want to share my experience and answer any questions anyone might have.

Who: my boyfriend and I (and his sister at some points).

When: Disney from Sept 9-13. Blue Springs State Park Sept 14. Universal Sept 15-17.

Where: Pop for Sept 9-13, Coronado Sept 13-15, Sapphire Falls Sept 15-17.

Crowds:

I thought that the crowd levels were very low for this trip, which was great because we went September of last year during this time and thought the crowds were awful. The only day we really had a problem was Saturday night when we hopped to MK for the nighttime entertainment. I knew this was going to be bad because of the MNSSH parties the MK is always crowded during the nights with Wishes and the MSEP. We just made the best of it and watched Wishes from Dumbo and saw the second electrical parade, which was not crowded at all.

We had great luck arriving at the parks at rope drop. On Saturday morning at DHS we met Donald, Daisy, Chip and Dale, Goofy, Minnie, Mickey, Olaf, Chewbacca and rode TSMM twice, Great Movie Ride, ST, Muppets and TT all from 9-noon.

Restaurants:

We did mostly counter service this trip. We liked Pecos Bill's, we were able to share the fajita platter and felt that we both had more than enough to eat. Columbia Harbor House was good as usual, we went right when they opened and were able to get our favorite spot upstairs overlooking fantasy land. We were very disappointed with Yak and Yeti counter service, we got the honey chicken to share and there were six pieces of chicken, and they were not big. They need to start providing smaller containers there because over half the container was empty. There were also three vegetables. We always share a meal there and this amount of food for the price was pitiful.

We really liked to visit resorts and eat at the counter services there. AKL's Mara food court was delicious as usual. We stayed at Pop and we much prefer AOA's food court which is a quick, easy walk from Pop.

We did two table services: Trail's End and Nine Dragons. I really cannot recommend Nine Dragons enough, I think the restaurant got a complete menu redo a year or so ago and it is just delicious. We had the Kung Pao shrimp and the lunch combo (sweet and sour soup, general tso's chicken steamed buns, pot sticks and the ginger ice cream). They also offer a 10% AP discount on weekdays for lunch.

Trail's End was amazing, we paid $26 for the dinner buffet with Disney Visa discount. All the food was amazing, they had many sorts of salads, chili, cornbread, vegetable soup, brisket, shrimp, mac and cheese, baked beans, potato salad, fried chicken and lots of delicious desserts. It is a very low key buffet and afterwards we waddled out to the beach at Fort Wilderness to watch Wishes. It is also located right next to the horse stables and you could arrive early and have a visit with the Cinderella ponies and take a peak inside the stables or see if the blacksmiths are working.

Hotels:

Pop was good, we stayed in the 80s section building 9, which was actually a lot closer to the bus stop than I thought, so long as you walk along the outside of the buildings.

Coronado must have had a room redo, everything looked really pretty and new and the room felt huge compared to Pop. The beds and pillows at Coronado were also really nice. We stayed in the Ranchos because I think the landscaping is just so pretty over there.

Weather:

It was very hot and muggy and humid. We had a couple rain showers, including the absolute 2 + hour monsoon and thunder storm that happened last Tuesday. I recommend over packing for this time of year, if you have a midday break you'll want fresh clothes to change into for the evening's activities. If there is heavy rain forecast and you pack a park bag, you might want to pack socks or sandals. Our feet got drenched during the monsoon and it was very uncomfortable.

Cast Members:

We didn't encounter any bad cast members this trip. Everyone was nice if not wonderful. We made sure to take down names and information of any exceptional cast members and will be sending an email to guest services about them. I think that is important so they can continue to encourage and reward the exceptional cast members. An easy way to do it is just to send a text to a family member after the encounter, including the cast members name, role location and any details. That way after the trip is over you can read back through the texts and already have the date and time recorded as well.

MNSSHP:

We attended the Sunday party and loved it, mostly because the crowds were very low. I did a write up on our experience in the MNSSHP thread, but I am more than happy to answer any specific questions, I am an uber planner for those parties so I have lots of tips, especially about meeting characters.

Overall I thought this was a very good time of the year to go. Besides the hot weather, you have the Halloween parties (which are my favorite Disney event), food and wine, lower crowds (usually...hopefully...it's hard to predict anymore).

I booked a bounceback offer for free dining for early December before we checked out of Coronado. I don't know if I'll end up keeping it, but it only required the $200 deposit and now I have it in case I want to keep it.

Anyone have any questions I can help with?

Oops. Forgot to talk about Blue Springs. If you are looking for a day trip or half day trip, I can't recommend Blue Springs State Park enough. It is about an hour or an hour and a half away from Disney. It cost $6 for the carload. Their claim to fame is manatees. They have a warm spring that manatees like to swim in to keep warm, we were talking to a ranger and he said in the colder winter months there can be 300-400 manatees in the relatively small space of the spring. Since the weather is still very hot right now there were only two manatees when we arrived in the early afternoon. In the summer/spring/fall months people are allowed to swim in the springs and rent inner tubes. So basically you could swim with the manatees. I did not want to go in the water because there were alligators in the nearby rivers, but plenty of people did swim.

We rented a canoe for an hour and paddled around, we saw a couple alligators and I about had a panic attack. We were in our canoe and I was taking pictures of a somewhat far off smaller alligator. I have a healthy fear of alligators and crocodiles, apex predators unchanged by nature for centuries and all that. So I was taking the pictures and suddenly there is a gigantic splash a few inches to my right, and of course my thoughts race to...the alligators set a trap!! The small cute one distracted me and now the huge one snuck up on me and is jumping into the boat. I was inches away from blowing my little emergency whistle that comes with the canoe and I was so startled I almost tipped the canoe over. Of course it was just a large fish splashing out of the water next to me and I was in no danger. But yeah...

Besides that we had a lot of fun and a manatee was swimming next to our canoe for a few minutes. We also saw an eastern indigo snake, which according to the ranger is very rare for that area. The snake had just eaten a black racer, so gold star for him.

Very nice trip report! I am a very heave planner for every trip i book to WDW or DLR. So much that I usually plan to the minute with planning certain rides in-between shows and everything. I usually know how to fit everything in. However, with all of these years going to WDW and DLR, I have never done a party. Therefore, I don't know much about how to plan. Everyone has said to see the 2nd parade, but I don't know if that is the best to fit everything in. I also am planning on seeing the fireworks, and the very last stage show at like 11:59 p.m. Should I just park myself on Main Street for the fireworks, the parade, and the stage show, or should I try to see the first parade? I also want to get pictures (Aladdin characters are at the top of my list) and ride a couple rides. Do you have any tips for planning a schedule for the entertainment, getting pictures, rides, and getting treats? Any tips are helpful.

Hello fellow heavy planner, it never hurts to have a plan, even if you don't end up following it :)

I am one of the only people who does not recommend the second parade. I have a few reasons for that. 1. I've been going to the MNSSHPs for about 5-6 years straight now. The second parade used to be much emptier, for the past 2 years I have not found that to be the case. If you want a front row spot I've found myself having to line up about 45 minutes ahead of time in Frontierland for the second parade, if I have to do that I may as well see the first parade. (disclaimer, I am sure the emptier parties you don't have to line up as early, but you never know what kind of crowds you'll get until you arrive) 2. I have been to several parties where the second parade gets rained out. Best to see the first one in case something happens, especially if there is a chance of rain. 3. The second parade's time was moved last year. It is now at 11:15. The party is over at midnight. That last hour of the party is usually your best shot for empty trick or treating, shorter character and ride waits. I don't like to waste it at the parade. Last year we did the second parade and had time to jump in line for one character only after the parade.

So those are the reasons I recommend seeing the first parade.

From all reports this year, people have been able to find good spots in the grassy fenced off old FP+ areas for Hallowishes. We found a great spot to sit (everyone else was sitting too) in the grassy area for Hallowishes 5 minutes before it started. But keep in mind, my party was empty.

We did the last Hocus Pocus show, it only makes sense if you can all stay up that late. Since the party ends at midnight, it is essentially bonus party time.

The Aladdin characters will switch off, Jasmine meets with Genie and they change every half hour with Aladdin and Abu. I find Aladdin and Abu to be a better meet, Abu is very funny. The CMs at the meet will help you plan out how to meet both so long as they are nice.

Did you know that Jack and Sally from Nightmare before Christmas start to meet at 5? You'll have to show your wristband but if you line up for them at 4 you'll meet them shortly after 5 and will have met 2 characters before the party even starts. The 7 dwarves also start at about 6:15, so you could do the same strat with them. Who else do you want to meet?

At my party, we were able to walk on HM (it has awesome special Halloween effects with fog and make up on the cast members and ghost ladies who entertain the queue) after 11 (while the second parade was happening). We also walked onto Peter Pan at 1120.

Thank you so much for this info! You are so helpful. Definitely the best tips I have gotten so far! Is it easy to find a spot on Main Street for the firework show? I'm going on Tuesday, so I am hoping that with it being a school night that it won't really be crowded. I heard that Jafar is doing a meet and greet. Is that true? Jack and Sally would be cool, but I'm not a huge fan of the movie. The seven dwarfs would be fun as well to meet.

No problem. There is also a MNSSHP super thread probably on page one or two of this forum where lots of people ask questions and give helpful advice too if you want to visit.

It was easy for us to find a good fireworks spot, and I want to hazard a guess that it will be easy for you to find a spot, as you'll be there on a Tuesday in September and those days are historically low crowds. But there are really no guarantees for that stuff and you'll just have to keep an eye on the crowds when you are there. I'd definitely check the fenced in astro turf areas for a spot though, there were plenty where we were.

Yep, Jafar is there too and we met him with only a 5 minute wait, he is in Adventureland near the carpet ride. You should check out Kenny the Pirate's page for a list of all the special Halloween characters, then you can make a list of who you want to meet.

I want to hear about Kong, Halloween Horror Nights, and Sapphire Falls:)

I want to hear about Kong, Halloween Horror Nights, and Sapphire Falls:)

Kong: It is mostly screens besides the very beginning and the last scene. However, I still liked it. There was a lot of movement and if everything had been real the ride would have taken up so much space. I like how you can get different drivers and how they make the ride a bit different. The Kong animatronic really was amazing.

The only bad part was everyone and their mother taking a million flash pictures on the ride and in the queue. So many flash pictures of Kong, really takes away from the ride.

I did a huge write up for HHN on the Universal forum, go see it! :)
