Split Stay against my will

I’ve done split stays in the past (on purpose) mainly to try different resorts or as a way to save money and stay longer. Recently I booked a trip using a promo and wanted 9 straight nights at AoA. However my exact dates didn’t show availability so I had to cut 2 days at the end to make it work. I then went back in thinking I’d try adding 2 nights somewhere else and discovered those same 2 days were open at AoA for the same room category. I now have a split stay at the same resort for the exact dates I wanted originally :rolleyes1
So now I’m wondering how this is going to work. I don’t really mind having to check in again, but not exactly thrilled to have to move out and hope there’s a way to stay in the same room. I suppose the upside would be another free waterpark day. I plan on calling at some point, but just wondering if anyone can share their experience with a similar situation.

Just update your reservations by calling Main Reservation Line: (407) 934-7639, and provide the CM with your two reservation numbers so that your (2) reservations are linked in the system.

The word that is most often used is you have a "continuing" reservation which is (2) or more reservations booked, and that both reservations are in the same booking category.

Once you get to AoA stop at the front desk early into your first reservation, and confirm that your reservations are linked. You will still need to check-out, and back in but you should be able to just stay in the same room.

It saves Disney turning over (2) rooms, and you needing to pack up your stuff / unpack in another room.

Are the rooms the same room type, or different? If the room type is the same (both suite or both standard) I would have a note placed on your reservations that you have a continuing stay and would like to stay in the same room if possible. I had this happen at BRV once (I was booked on a promotion with a 14 day limit but was staying 17 nights), and I was able to keep the same room. I did check in to each stay separately. It might be a good idea to check in at the front desk in person to mention the continuing stay again and request to be in the same room if possible, so if the room assigner did not see the note they can try to fix it.

If your room types are not the same, then the likelihood of staying in the same room is extremely low, and you should plan to move. You can still ask, of course, but the answer is likely to be no. if both reservations are for suites, but in different areas (such as a Nemo suite and a Lion King suite), you may be able to stay in the same room, but you may not be able to choose which theme you are placed in.

Same room category, Cars suite for both.

Then you have a good chance of keeping the same room. Call in and have the notes added to your reservations. Go to the front desk and check in for your first reservation and mention the continuing stay and ask about staying in the same room. Good luck!

Some people have reported the phone CMs have been able to combine their 2 reservations into 1. Definitely call & ask about that. If they can’t do it, have the continuing reservation noted. As long as the room assigners know about it, there is almost no chance you’ll have to move. Think about it, management won’t want to move you to a new, just cleaned room & then have to completely clean your room for another guest. It is much easier & more cost effective for them to leave you in the same room & give an incoming guest the already cleaned room.

Happened to me a few times in the past because I overstayed a discount. I never ended up moving but, of course, no-one could promise me I wouldn't need to move even though in the end they kept my family in place.

Not only did that same scenario work out for me two weeks ago at BC but I got my requested room as well. They will totally help you out.

PS I love split stays too but yes the ones at the same resort are not the fun kind

This happened to us when we booked at OKW a couple years ago. I booked cash through WDW and I thought I booked a certain # of nights only to find out I was a night short and we had already booked airfare. I ended up renting points since there were no more rooms under the AP discount. I called and had the reservations noted as "continuing" and then when we arrived, went to front desk and made sure we would be able to stay in the same room. It wasn't a problem. We just had to swing by the front desk on "check-out" day to check-out and check-in again.

You won't have to move. Just call, have them linked and double check when you checkin. They'll tell you on the phone it's not a guarantee, however it makes absolutely no logistical sense for Disney to have a guest move from 1 room to another in the same category. It's more work for Disney (housekeeping) and more work for the room assigner. We've had to do this mult times and always stay in the same room.
