Hi all,

Just thought I would give a quick report on our 'new' favorite Orlando resort.

We came on Wednesday around 3:30pm with our two 15mo. old Boston Terriers and were immediatly greeted at valet when we arrived at the resort. We told them we had pets and were concerned about getting valet due to all the stuff we had with us concerning our dogs and they were not pushy about us parking ourselves at all. Matter of fact, they told us to just pull over the side there and check-in and let them know if we changed our minds. So, up we go up to the wooden walk way that crossed over a lovely lushly decorated canal area below to the glass automated doors that lead into the lobby area of RPR. Along the way we were stoped by admiring hotel employees and a few guests. At this point we had our 'kids' in our arms as they were a bit over whelmed by all the excitement. We didn't wait more then a minute before the lovely Raina checked us in. We told her we didn't have the Lowes card yet as even though we requested it way back in the middle of April and she said, "no problem" and just took our Lowes membership number. We choose our Lowes gifts right there at check-in with Raina (milk and cookies and a newspaper). We had requested a king bed, waterview room when we booked back in April, but when we check-in Raina said the only thing left was a room with two queens in the pet tower.
We hummed around cause we were not happy about the bedding but continued on with the checkin and then I finally said "really wanted a king bed..it's our anniversary, I don't care about the view." She said she would check to see if their was anything they could do and then came back with a king bedded room for us in Tower 2, but warned us it wasn't a pet room. I am sure she could see by the quite babies in our arms that were still getting attention from the hotel emplyees when we checked in that they were very well behaved, but took our cell phone number just incase their were any problems while we were away from our room. We thanked her and proceeded past bell services who also complimented our BT's and still carrying them took them upto our room on the 5th floor.
The room was well appointed with a huge window over looking the valet area and canal that we walked over when we entered the resort. It also has two plams outside the window that added to the tropical feel of the room. The room included a tv, mini bar, two telephones (one of wich was cordless) two data ports, a small round dark veneered table with two rattan looking chairs flaking each side, a wide comfy cotton chair with a foot stool, dresser, two dark colored veneer side tables and a very cute looking dragon fly detailed scones on the wall on each side of the bed with dimmers. It added a nice dragon fly shadow on the wall when the lights were on. The bathroom had a sink in the entry way and a bathtub/shower combo in the second area with a dragon fly shower curtain. The lights flaking the sink were also on a dimmer switch, so they made a great night lite. And, to our relief the floor was tiled as well as the large entry way into the room. This is were we planned on keeping the kids while we were at the park the next day. So, hubby went back down to velet and got a bell man to help bring up the luggage, dog bed and baby gate (to lock them in the bathroom). We had also brought a large holding pen, but decided the bathroom was large enough for them for as long as we would be away to keep the kids in. We then promptly got a knock on the door from one of the hotel personnel who was holding two gift bags for the dogs. In the bags included a Lowes loves pets plastic dog bowl, blue logo place mat as well as a door knob hanger that said, "tails were in and tails were out."
We walked the kids around the resort that night and even took them to the lounge were the bartender and us even swaped BT's stories as she showed us a picture of her 5 year old BT. The hotel employees were really dog friendly and we didn't notice any of the guests making a neg. comments either. There were alot of "eews, awes, what kind of dogs are those, oh look twins, and can we pet them" remarks made. When we got back to our room we had a plate of chocolate covered strawberries (our Lowes gift of cookies and milk) and a nice little note from Rania at the front desk apologizing about the check-in and room issue. Which we promptly called and told her thank-you for (and we didn't even really throw a fit about the bed situation).
The next day hubby called the front desk and requested a second dog bed as we had only brought one and promptly decided before we left for the morning for IOA that they would be mor comfortable with two. The resort sent up a brand new dog bed (the tags were still on it $34.95) and we advised our kids not to destroy it and left them in the bathroom with their toys, dog beds and food and water bowls. We probaly spent about 2-1/2 to 3 hours total at IOA as the front of the line access was in a word unbelivable! We walked on every single ride without a wait and later that day when we came back to the park to wrap up riding the Hulk we only waited about 3 minutes top for IOA's most popular ride even though the reg. line had a 90 minute wait at the time at around 4 in the afternoon. I wish all parks had that front of the line access...what a god send. We got to spend more time enjoying the resort with our kids becuase of it.
We took our kids to the pet walk area around tower two, but also carried them through the pool area sevral times. We never had any problems and even met a few guests who said they had pets staying there, but in the two nights we stayed their we only saw one Beagle looking dog on the last day we were there. We even had one of the hotel employees chase us down from one of the restaurants to get to see and visit with the dogs. I have never stayed at a resort where the employess were so dog friendly it was amazing! <BG>
We ordered room service the last night and ordered our kids the veggie dinner which came in one of the Lowe's loves pets bowls with rice and carrot and celery peices. Hubby and I had burgers and watched the first show of the Amazing Race in our room with our kids. It was a great relaxing and exciting vacation and the resort is in a word was "beautiful". We checked our bill the day of check-out as from reading these boards I knew sometimes their were errors and the only error was a $27 mini bar charge.
The front desk promptly removed it when we checked out (especially after the saw that we turned down housekeeping the day prior so their was no way they could even check the refrig. to see if anything was taken). We asked about the gift bags with their merchandise (as we couldn't believe they were free as we didn't even pay a pet fee when we checked in) and were told to take them home and remember to stay again with us, but please leave the bed. <BG>

We will always stay with Lowe's in Orlando now anytime we go to Disney or Universal...It's definitly the nicest resort that allows pets in the area (and I have stayed at alot around their being local). Their service and resort can't be beat and they are so proud of the fact that they allow pets that it really shows through with their employees.

Happy booking pet owners...I highly reccomend Lowe's!

I was wondering if I could ask you some questions about this.

1) What kind of dogs can you bring to the resort? We have 2 labs.
2) How much do they charge for having your dogs there?
3) How does it work when you arent in the room?
4) Can you bring them by the pool or inside the resort?
5) Thanks for any help that you can give us

Hi,

This was my first time staying at a Universal Resort (we have stayed at lots of other hotels with them and even bought a travel trailer so we could take them to Disney), so I am not sure I am the most quailified person to answer your question. However, I do know that they do not charge a pet fee of any kind for your family pet to stay with you in a room. They also offer (through outside services) pet sitting where you can hire someone to take care of your dog while your away for the day.
The services they reccomended to me where: Not Fur Gotten 1-407-678-2443, Pampered Bow wow 1-407-644-5566, and Walkies 1-407-578-911.
We never left our kids for more than 3 hours the entire time we were there so we did need these services. We walked or carried our kids throught the entire resort even through the lobby and if we weren't sure if they were allowed in a certain area (as the pool area is completed fenced in) we carried them. We never got any complaints from anyone during our stay and instead got lots of great compliments even from the guests at the resorts. On weither or not they allow big dogs or if they have a size/pound restriction you should call Lowe's directly and ask. The first thing they'll ask you anyway is if your traveling with children or pets! <BG>
Hope this helps at least a little!

We stayed at the HRH last summer with our 60 pound Golden Retreiver and our 50 pound Black Lab. There is no charge or size restriction of any kind at any of the Universal Loews hotels. When you leave the room, you can leave the dogs there alone. You just have to make special arrangements for the maid to come in when you are there or when you can take the dogs out for awhile. There is a designated dog walking area but the dogs are not allowed to sit around by the pool.

Thanks for the help. This sounds like something that we are going to do next year. We have 2 labs and would love to bring them down there with us. We just want a relaxing vacation at the hotel and maybe spend 2-3 hours at one of the parks and come back and hang out by the pool etc.
I think that this is such a wonderful idea and which that certain Disney resorts would start doing the same thing.
thanks again

Hey,

Yeah...I hear ya on the Disney resort thing!

I didn't realize they weren't allowed by the pool. We saw a lady with a chow sitting there last week! My husband was really enjoying watching the dog.

I saw several people coming in and out with their pets - but never saw them after that!

That is so cool! I had no idea they were pet friendly!! I don't think I want to travel with all 4 of my dogs though! LOL!;)

Loews Resorts at Universal are definately the best...hubby and I decided we prefer them when staying in the Orlando area as well.

Yup, our RJ went from being abandoned at the humane society (at the ripe old age of 10!), to being a "hard rock hound". What's fun is to buy them "doggie accessories" before you go, so they can look stylin' at the resort! Kudos to Loews one hundred times over for treating pets so well...(Can't wait to get there in Aug!)
