I just returned from a 5-night stay at Disney (January 19-24), and wanted to share my happy experience!

A little background on me: This was my 6th trip to WDW and DH's 5th. All 5 of his trips have been with me. I went once when I was in junior high with my family.

On all 5 of DH and I's trips, we've stayed onsite. We've made some minor requests, such as having a king bed. On our 4 previous trips, we've gotten exactly what we've asked for. Nothing more, nothing less. And we've been perfectly happy.

On this trip, however, things were different. We chose a standard room at Boardwalk Inn. We drove (from Illinois) and when we drove up to the gate, the attendant asked us to pull up to the front for assistance with our luggage. I thought that was strange as we never ask for assistance...we usually just park and take our things inside ourselves when we check in. So, we pulled up to the front and a young lady with an iPad, greeted us and told us that she would take us to the concierge lounge to check in. At that point, I was really confused. DH went to self-park the car (as he prefers to park the car rather than have it valeted). I went with the young lady inside. We got in the elevator to go up to the lounge. I asked what was going on as I had reserved a standard room. She said, "You've been upgraded!". At that point, I burst into tears. Yeah, I was the crazy 31 year old crying in the elevator of a Disney resort because I got a room upgrade. I apologized for my reaction and she assured me that it was perfectly OK.

We went up to the lounge and DH joined shortly thereafter. The nice woman in concierge explained the lounge to us and gave us a map to our room. Not only were we in concierge, we were in the cottages!!! I'd seen photos of them online and always wished I could stay in one, but they are so expensive. Our cottage had its own courtyard. Inside, the bed and master bath were in a 2nd story loft. There was a jacuzzi tub and separate shower in the master suite. Downstairs, there was a living space (couch and TV), as well as kitchenette area and 1/2 bath.

I was completely shocked and told DH over and over that I couldn't believe that room! All of my Disney vacations have been amazing, but this one really was a dream come true. We were celebrating my birthday (1/20), and we hadn't even noted it on the reservation!

So...if anyone has questions about club level at the Boardwalk or the cottages or anything, please feel free to ask!

That is do awesome! I would have cried too!!

We loved staying at YC and really liked staying at the EPCOT resorts. We explored a little bit of the BW and I am interested in staying at BW.

We would like a BW view and be in the center of it all. How convenient are the BW view rooms to the pool and lobby?

We like being on the dining plan, any thoughts on the dining plan options at BW. We like counter service options and liked SAB's Hurricane Hannah options.

Is the clown pool location inconvenient for the BW rooms, it looks much closer to the BWI rooms.

Any other tips?

thanks!!

Congrats on the upgrade!! :goodvibes

Perfect timing for your thread too, I just posted yesterday asking for more info on the cottages. I'm thinking a few of booking one for a few nights on our next vacation & would love some info. I know we'd have to walk outside to get to the lounge. But how far is the walk really & how inconvenient is it, ex: long hallways, slow elevator?? Do you remember any of the food offerings? Was there always a place to sit after you got to the lounge? I wouldn't want to get all the way there & have no where to sit & eat breakfast! And I really like it dark in the room, with the bed in the loft area, was it bright in there as soon as the sun came up?

Thanks for any info!! And happy belated birthday! :goodvibes

As far as the rooms being convenient to the pool and lobby, it really depends on where your room is. Some rooms are much more convenient than others...the hallways are long and winding. If you're at the end of the hall, it could be a little bit of a hike.

Dining options...the counter service options would be Boardwalk Bakery and the pool bar. I didn't eat at either, so can't comment. There are lots of table service options...we ate at Big River Grille and enjoyed it very much.

The clown pool is more convenient to BWV than to BWI, but it isn't a terribly long walk. I didn't swim because it was too cold.

It isn't a terribly inconvenient walk from the cottage area to the main building. If you take the exterior stairs up to the main building, the elevator is right inside the doors and it is pretty fast. The lounge is on the 4th floor. You have to go down 2 rather long hallways to get to the lounge. The walk didn't bother me.

I am not much of a breakfast eater, but DH is. They had pastries, croissants, oatmeal, cereal, bagels, yogurt, juices, milk, eggs, and fruit. He always found a place to sit. I visited the lounge frequently in the afternoons/evenings for snacks and dessert and always found a place to sit. It does get a little crowded at Illuminations time as you can see the fireworks from the lounge balcony.

I, too, like my room dark. The upper window has a button-activated shade that you can put down and the door into the room has a standard curtain that you can pull closed.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more specific questions or need clarification on anything!

It's not a room I'd ever actually be able to afford, but if you can, I highly recommend!

Thanks!! We're in that time of our lives when the kids are gone, the house is paid & we still have several years til retirement, so we're indulging our selves while we can! :rotfl2:

I won't mind the walk to the lounge as long as I don't have to schlep back to the room with the food coz there is no room in the lounge! We have had that happen @ YC & BC more than once. :sad2:

Good to know there are shades in the rooms; couldn't tell from the pictures I've seen. Thanks so much for your help!

Is Boardwalk Pizza still open? It's where we have always enjoyed counter service. The pizza is delicious.
Was Anita in the club room? She's wonderful. I hope you got to meet her.

Now that is what I call an upgrade! Which cottage were you in? 1205 is my favorite because it's one of 3 with a balcony! Wish I could afford to stay there again, last time was 10 years ago for our wedding.

You arrived the day we left. I wondered why the elevator was wet ;) We too were upgraded from a standard room to Club.

Still there and yes it is good! Anita is a darling isn't she? Seemed like she was there all the time!

We were in 1204, right next door! The balconies on 1205-1207 looked nice, however, it was pretty chilly most of our days...not really suitable for sitting on a balcony, so I was OK with having the courtyard instead. :) The balcony would be nice in the summer time though!

She is a darling woman. Out of all of the club level CMs at Disney World, Anita is my favorite.

What a great upgrade. We stayed in the cottages a few years ago and loved it.
