We just got back a few days ago and I have a kind of random question. What is the purpose of getting your hand stamped when you leave the park? Each time we re-entered a park they scanned our card and never checked for a stamp.

It's to make certain you are the person who used your entry material earlier in the day. It prevents people from sharing a ticket throughout the day or buying/selling a ticket that was used for the first half of the day. I'm guessing they probably only check for the stamp if they have a reason to question the authenticity of the ticket/parkhopper.

Also, they sometimes stamp a hand if the parks are getting crowded during the day. There are different levels of park closures and one level involves letting only people who had previously been in the park re-enter.

We just got back from 6 days in the parks. They checked our hands about half the time upon reentry.

That is correct, when my DA and I were at the main entrance line at DL, we saw a guest and his friend were asked by a CM to see if they had their hand stamp for that day. He said that he didn't get a hand stamp, so they wouldn't let him in the park and he walked out.

When I was at DL during 4th of July a few years ago, they told everyone that is leaving the park to get their hand stamped if they want to re-enter the park. It was for everyone and the AP holders if they want to re-enter.

That's interesting to know the reasoning. I've always wondered why they do it too. I have an AP and always have said "no" to having my hand stamped and have never been asked upon returning to show a hand stamp. So I'm guessing it's really for people holding day tickets since AP holders have their pictures on the AP passes.

On days where crowds reach capacity, they even make AP holders have their hand stamped. We had to get stamped (and had to show them to reenter) when we were there just before Xmas.

On our first trip a couple years ago, we had printed 4 of the SAME online ticket printout (rather than all 4). As we were entering for the first day, the lady scanned one and then we realized the others were the same (oops). So we had to go to guest services to have them look up our online order and they very nicely helped us and printed our 4 separate tickets for us. We then went back to the same lady at the turnstiles and tried to enter. Well MY ticket had already been scanned because of our ordeal we didn't actually ever enter the parks though. So the lady refused entrance for me because I didn't have a hand stamp (from 5 min earlier). I tried to remind her of our situation, and she still refused. I had to go back to guest services and explain again what happened and why my ticket had been previously scanned. They had to have a manager walk me through the gates! It was crazy!
That is my story about hand stamps! You can bet I will always make sure I have a hand stamp:)

Yep, had the same experience Columbus Day weekend. While entering DCA (first park of the trip), it was THAT crowded.
