Just got back late last night from 4 full days with a half day tacked on at each end. Still didn't get to do everything we wanted! We are a family of four- DH, me, and two DS17s.

Flying by the seat of our pants- What we did last minute.

Aladdin- our first afternoon we decided to see Aladdin. We walked up about not long before show start and got mezzanine. This is the middle balcony. We were half way back. The people on the stage are small and you can't see their expressions. I don't recommend coming in last second. Still, if that is the only way you can squeeze it in, I'd do it.

Fireworks- Walked up to IASW about 15 minutes to start time. Found a spot on the ground to sit and saw a great show. No, you can't see Dumbo fly, but you can see both sets of fireworks and they put projections on IASW. Great spot if you just want to see it without a long wait and crowds in front of the castle.

Fantasmic- At the last minute we decided to see the second show of F! So we walked over to see what the situation looked like. We found a spot at the railing but off to the side, so decided to see what else there was. With about 15 minutes to show time we found a spot directly behind the control center with the giant speakers and lights blocking the way. Everywhere else at the railing in front of the planter, the crowd was about 6 "people layers" deep, but here it was only 1 deep. So we stood behind them. My family complained that they wouldn't be able to see, but I knew from reading the boards, that the speakers lifted up and then we would have great spots. Sure enough, that happened and then suddenly people filled in behind us.

Planning Ahead- What we saw by setting aside a lot of time.

WOC- We had the preferred dining package at Ariel's. I had made these arrangements and the family was expecting a small amount of crummy food. They were plesantly surprised and we were all stuffed. We had 3 tri tips and 1 pasta. Both were good. I had a taste of the pasta and it was a yummy, slightly spicey sauce. At 7 we asked the CM in front of the preferred dining area where we should go and he just said come back at 7:45. I tried to get out of him where we should stand to wait for that time, but he didn't really have an answer, so we sat on a nearby bench. Around 7:20 they cleared out the area we were in and we then saw we had to wait by the Palace of Fine Arts. There was already a crowd so we were about 6 layers of people in front of us. But it turns out we were only the second family to enter the preferred dining section and we got great spots right on the railing. (We had to duck when Mike came by in the pre-show! ) We decided we all like WOC way better than F! And the WOC popcorn is yummy!

Aladdin- We tried lining up at 2pm for a 3pm show. This time we got the Orchestra and got the right hand side about 6 rows back. Much better to watch the show. Sides are not bad and you can still see everything clearly and see the parade come by you. These were great seats and we could see the expressions on their faces.

Fast Passes- Of course we collected FPs in the moring and used them in the crowde afternoons and evenings. We collected Buzz FPs when all others were gone.

Crowds and Temps

It was definately more crowded this summer than last. We especially noticed it in DCA. So much for going there in the afternoons to escape the crowds of DL. Now that Screamin closes early, FPs for it run out sooner. With good use of FP collecting and getting on non FP rides early, we got plenty of rides and attractions in everyday. The only times the crowds got annoying was when a large group would suddenly stop in the middle of the path and discuss something. Why don't they just move to the side? :confused3

Cool mornigs and evenings- I needed a sweater. Weather reports said mid 70's but at DLR it always feels about 10 degrees hotter. So, nice during the day- hot, but not too hot. And the sun is more intense than I'm used to so I burn faster.

I agree with you on the crowds. It's getting busier & busier every year. We used to go there in september because it was considered low season but with all the activities and decorations they have regarding halloween it hardly seems like low season anymore.

Thanks for reporting about the weather, it's still on the 100's over here and august is probably the hottest month. The temperature will feel very cool :cold:for us so now I have a better idea on what to bring.

Sounds like you guys had some fun times. :goodvibes

Thanks for the report, 8 more days and we should be there. How were your accomadations?

We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn for the first time and plan to go back. :thumbsup2 We love the short walk! It took us about 7 minutes and very easy. It was so nice to be able to get back to our room for a quick nap. We also didn't have to leave so early in the morning as we did when we drove and parked.

The free breakfast was great and had some good choices. Everyone there was very nice and helpful.

We had the deluxe room with two queen beds. It did get a little messy with everything piled on the table and chairs, but all we did in the room was crash on the bed. Having only one sink with four people was a little tricky, but at least the shower was in a seprate room.

I hope to post a full hotel report with pictures like I did last year for the Embassy Suites South.

Great information, makes me very excited as we will arrive exactly a week from today! :cool1:

A little nervous about the crowds, but sounds like with some planning (which I always prepare for the worst) it sounds do-able....
Thanks!

Oh yes, totally do-able! :thumbsup2 The key is get there at gate opening, collect FPs whenever your window opens up and go on the non FP rides first thing. In the afternoon and evenings I'd pull out a stack of FPs and say "what do you want to go on?". Sometimes we had trouble using them all because we also wanted to do shows in the afternoon. Walking around takes some time because of the crowds. I always looked for the fast walking stroller lady and walked behind her. :rotfl:

Hi!
I too just got back yesterday after 5 days at Disneyland!
The weather was a bit hot but Wednesday and Thursday had a little bit of a breeze blowing which was nice.
Saw WOC on Sunday night (We did the Ariel dining package too) and LOVED the pre-show!
We did DS 5th birthday party his Minnie and Mickey on Monday as well as Fantasmic (we did the dessert priority seating). and watched the fireworks from there. This option is better for us as our son is autistic and can't do crowds surrounded from all sides (he will freak out)
We got to ride every ride in both parks, some rides multiple times (but we had a GAC)
On THursday both California Screamin and Tower of Terror broke down at the same time. (didn't suck for us cause we can't ride CS anyways but it did make crowds go to other rides and make other lines worse)
We usually stay at the Candy Cane Inn but it was sold out!!
We stayed at the Tropicana Inn right across the street (a MUCH shorter walk) and it wasn't too bad. The rooms are a little small but hey we are pretty much only at the hotel to sleep anyways.
DO NOT eat at Captain Kidd's buffet across the street from the park. Total rip off and crappy food.

Sorry, didn't mean to highjack your thread, just thought it was interesting we were there the same time and couldn't get into the hotel you were staying at, lol.

That is funny we were both there. My sister, Lavenderpeach was there on Wed too. We both had our LGMH but never saw any Disers except each other. ;) On the last half day Space Mountian was down so we didn't get to use our FPs for it. But we got a lot of stuff in so that's ok.

I would love to do F! dessert package sometime. But the price of the dessert package made the WOC dinner look like a deal to me. Of course, you don't get to sit...

We ate in the park everyday. I had heard that about C.Kidd, so had no intention of going there. I managed to eat veggies almost everyday. 3 salads and 1 veggie skewer, so I think I did pretty good on not eating terrible every meal.

We made reservations for CCI back in April or May.

Welcome back PinkBudgie!

I can't wait to read your trip report! Please share all you can about Candy Cane Inn! I am staying there for 8 nights in September! Anything you can share will be helpful!

Welcome back,,,glad you had a great trip!! And just wanted to say I am one of those fast walking stroller ladies!! haha!:rotfl: When Dbf takes over the stroller driving it is wonderful, I just follow behind his path!! Crowd control at its best!!:cloud9:

Yep, that's my dealing with the crowds tip! :thumbsup2

I don't mind the fast going stroller person as long as they're not running into people. I've been in front of people with strollers and have literally been run over by them, some just push and shove into you figuring that you will get out of their way since they have strollers. Not true. My daughter has been on crutches and people won't move out of the way even after saying excuse me.

Of course I'm not advocating that. None of the FWSLs (fast walking stroller ladies ;) ) I was behind were like that. They just knew where they were going and didn't dawdle and stop.

My sister had her stroller there the other day and I was watching DN sleeping in it while she went on Soarin with my DSs. We sat at the tables by the train in DCA. When I got there I was able to get the stroller through to an empty table, but by the time she got back and we went to leave, the stroller was trapped in by people at tables all around us. She picked the widest area and asked the teen girl sitting with a man if she could please move for a moment to fit the stroller through. Both people completely ignored her even though she bent over to talk to the girl. A lady at another table saw the problem and offered to move so we could get out. It is just amazing how some people will act. :sad2:

But I have to say, we ran in to very few rude people this trip. Considering the crowds, that was pretty good.
