Just back - mosquitoes?!?!

Mosquitos love me. They find me at home and bite me as if my blood were nectar from the God of Bugs.

I had never been bitten by one at WDW--until last week. The bites are still itchy. I got only a handful--fewer than if I were at home on a muggy night in July. But I got some in WDW for the first time ever.

I know it's already been confirmed this was due to effects of Irma, but I could have sworn I saw another disboards post about the out-of-control mosquitoes just a few days ago. Maybe not, but I'm sure I read it somewhere and this is usually where I get my info.

Checked out of POP yesterday, we are covered in mosquito bites. there were also mosquitos in the room.

There are signs about mosquitoes all over the parks - spray and lotion was readily available. Definitely a result of Irma.

Forgot bug spray on my feet one night at POR AB. Regretted that the next couple of days. Happened beginning of September.

I was there before Irma and after Irma. The mosquitos were very noticeable after Irma. Also ants, weird biting ants. I'm from Ohio so these jerks came as a big post Irma surprise!

Here now - definitely bit by mosquitos at AKL and WL! WL had like an invasion of bugs at the docks.

We arrived at WDW the Friday before Irma and were there until the following Sunday. Both my DD and I suffered tons of mosquito bites. This is the first trip I've ever received any mosquito bites at WDW. It definitely took me by surprise.

I was there from Sunday through Saturday last week and got an ant bite on a toe but otherwise didn't get any bites. I sat out on my patio at night and went to the pool a couple of times. I attract bugs like a magnet, I don't even go out here at home in Georgia after sunset because of it. As soon as I got home, I went to a Braves game the same night, wore long sleeves and capris because I knew the stadium was open air and the next day was covered in bites on my arms and legs from being out Saturday night. I joked with my honey that I spent a week in the swamps of Florida and didn't get a single bite, come back home and go to Atlanta and get eaten up.

Yikes!
We were there mid-September 2016 and 2010 and didn't notice any mosquitoes at all.
Just another lovely surprise courtesy of Irma!

We are heading down on Friday and staying at Poly. I usually manage to get a few bites there no after what time of year it is...can anyone tell me whether they are putting the bug spray or wipes in the rooms like they did during the Zika period? I’m trying to figure out whether I need to buy some tomorrow.

Are they all over the parks during the day too?

They had the wipes in our Poly room over the week of July 4, and I should've used them. I had never had an issue with mosquito bites in Disney in the past. I believe I got the bites while sitting out on our Poly patio on July 3 and 4. We've stayed at Poly for the 4th for the past 6-7 years and none of us have ever had these problems! My girls had some bites too, but not as extreme as mine.

We had nothing at the Poly 9/21-9/25. I went to the store and bought some bug spray but it was useless. I highly recommend bringing some Sawyer Picardin with you from home. That stuff is magical. Had I thought about Irma and potential mosquito issues, I would have brought this. It's the only repellent I use. https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Produ...awyer+picaridin+insect+repellent+lotion&psc=1

I did not get any bites at the parks. I got bites on our balcony at Old Key West as well as on our patio at Polynesian. I also got a few watching Happily Ever After from the TTC boat dock. My son did not get a single bite, and he wasn't on any balconies or out at night, which tells me that my husband and I got all of ours in the evenings on the balcony/patio.

Just wanted to bump this up and see if anyone just back (or currently in WDW) can comment on the mosquito situation? Has it improved at all?

I've never gotten a mosquito bite in WDW before, but wondering if we should be planning on wearing bug spray next month for our trip. The weather should be cooling down, so I'm hoping that helps. I'm also pregnant and although I know FL is no longer an active Zika state, it's always in the back of my mind. I may wear bug spray anyway just to be cautious (I hate it though!)

Just got back and had no problems at the Poly but my sister and I were covered in mosquito bites after a night at MK.

We always bring it. WDW does a great job, but if its a gloomy day with rain off and on and then clears up towards evening, the mosquito's will be out that evening. We have needed it a few times for movie night.

I was down in September, days after the hurricane. Have several friends there now. They say the mosquitoes are back. Seems they weren't too bad through October.
