My DW and I just returned from WDW and attended MNSSHP on 10/6. The parades and fireworks were outstanding as usual, but I agree with Kevin and John that the candy was very disappointing both in quantity and quality. Only small handfuls were given out even at the end of the evening and there was very little chocolate. Raisin boxes with CARS logo's were distributed one at a time like they were gold. I only like raisins when they are in oatmeal cookies or cereal.

As we were leaving, there was only a final handful of candy, if you sought out the CM giving it out and it was just more of the same. :(

In any case, I am still glad that we went. The fireworks and parade were AWESOME. :thumbsup2

one of my work friends just returned from WDW and did MNSSHP; it was her first time at Disney World so she was just blown away by the parade & the party in general.

however, i will confess it took EVERY OUNCE of self-control to not ask her about the candy situation. Firstly, she's not the kind of person who would really notice that stuff, but secondly, i didn't want to "take away" any of the experience by commenting on how the candy situation has decreased in quality/quantity. She's telling me how much fun she had trick-or-treating, and all i can think is, do NOT tell her they were giving out better stuff last year, do NOT tell her they were giving out better stuff last year, DO NOT TELL HER, etc. etc. :rotfl:

I agree on the candy situation at the party- very cheap stuff and don't get me started on the raisins!

Really though, the fun thing is actually getting to trick or treat as an adult. Again, as an adult I can go to the supermarket and buy any bag of candy I want for myself. To get too upset is a waste of time. Disney is cheap, big surprise, and they hand out cheap candy. If you are paying the $55.00 for free candy, you'll do better buying a giant bag at Costco for $12.00.

They may have heard some of these complaints. Last night we got probably 1/3 chocolate (M&Ms, Kit Kats, Milky Ways & Reeses). That still isn't as much as in years past, but it is better than has been reported by so many thus far. We also got tons of candy, but I think that was a function of an hour long rainstorm that started the party off, and kept crowds down.

We went in September, and although some of it was a bit naff (and I STILL have some I haven't eaten, go me! :goodvibes), we found that Alice's Trick or Treat trail, and Tomorrowland gave out much better candy than the other sides of the park.

I also heard from a cast member that they were going less on the chocolate this year because the heat of last year meant that lots of it melted and they got complaints.

I personally liked it, maybe its the experiment of trying American candy. Plus it is so full of sugar, it keeps me awake to do my uni reading! :hyper:

Luckily this is our first year so I have nothing to compare it too. I am just happy I get to go.:goodvibes So maybe that is how your friend feels too and the candy doesnt matter so much.

It's a fun party! But.... since we're discussing candy, here is my candy report straight from the MNSSHP on Friday 10/9:

I hardly received any chocolate (definitely not the 1/3 chocolate that a previous poster was talking about...!!!). Two little fun-size bags of peanut m&m's, and one bite-size (not fun-size... this was just a bite) Butterfinger was it.

The rest were mostly Now & Laters and Sour smarties (but they weren't smarties, they were imitation smarties), and the flat, round lollipops like you get when you go to the bank. I agree, also - no handfuls, just a few pieces. My bag was less than half full when I left and I went around to some of the candy spots multiple times.

Still had a great time, but the candy was a bust! (Which was sad, as I am known to be a candy fiend at these parties... it used to be the most fun part for me! Might rethink my yearly MNSSHP and make it an "every 3-4 years" thing in the future.)
