Just Back: Just a Few Notes

It's actually a very small section of the trail but yes, someone sensitive wouldn't be able to walk it and never could. since new fantasyland opened it's been a smoking section that just got a little longer. If you can smell it on barnstormer, someone isn't in the smoking section and decided they should just smoke next to the line. I regularly speak up and yes I am a smoker so I don't mind telling them to stop being lazy and it's 20 feet away from them.
I did notice people all up and down the trail smoking when we were there. If they put up some signs it might help some to keep them in the smoking area . Maybe a designated smoking sign where the smoking area is and signs on both sides saying no smoking beyond this point :confused3.

Florida is very dry right now - has been fires burning, and there is a fire ban in effect at Fort Wilderness, I know, not sure about other areas.

Great for attending the parks - we go next week - :sunny: but not so great for FL in general! We have also gone a few times when it didn't rain one drop, but most times there are at least showers. We usually are great at 'breaking' droughts wherever we vacation!! :P

I know it is very dry in FL right now - my MIL lives in Naples and last month I-75 had to be closed due to limited visibility from the wildfire smoke. I know you all living in FL would love to have rain right now! It was just nice to not have to have a downpour in Magic Kingdom.

The sides of the garbage cans with the ashtrays on top have signs/printing on the side that say it's a smoking section. Every place you can smoke has one or sometime similar. the only actual "smoke here" sign is in animal kingdom. They have it covered and it's easy to spot if you looking for the smoking section.

they actually put up some no smoking signs in old areas on top of it.

We don't live in FL, but have been seeing/hearing about the drought. I remember several years ago traveling along I-95 and the fires burning all along a large stretch there. Scary!!

I agree with you about no rain on vacation - we definitely would rather the rains hold off while we are there. I 'hate' trying to 'have fun' and getting wet - we just leave! Some people don't mind carrying on, but not us! :sunny:

That actually isn't the way Disney intends that smokers' section to be. Over the weekend we were waiting in line at Barnstormer & a smoker was on the trail right across from the ride, & wafting smoke. The Barnstormer CM paused her line-control job to ask him to go further down the trail next to the trash cans & ash trays "where the designated smoking section is". Then she apologized to those in line for the smoke after he walked off.

So if people are smoking the whole length of that walkway, especially near a queue, they're doing it wrong. The actual designated smoking area is much smaller than the trail. Perhaps better signage is needed. You might want to email Disney about your friend's experience.
Disney has closed a lot of the smoking areas which I think will cause the ones that they still have to be overpacked and start to overflow. Like it or not there are still a lot of smokers out there and they are going to smoke regardless of the rules non smokers put in place.

I, for one, would be very happy if the Speedway was gone! It stinks there so much, I don't even like to wait for the kids to get off, and imagine what they are breathing in while riding? :scared:
What does it have to do with Disney? Is there some connection? It's nothing special, many theme parks have a similar ride- and many have updated to not be using stinky diesel.

It's so fun for kids to get to drive- that's the appeal that we jaded adult drivers sometimes don't understand. My son has always loved this ride & I hope they keep it. It would be nice if they changed to a less offensive energy source, though. We only ride it with a FastPass, so we don't have to wait in the stinky line too long.

As far as many theme parks having something similar- well, they all have roller coasters, too, but we don't want Disney to get rid of those.

It wasn't a crowded park that day at all & there was plenty of room in the designated smoking area. I think the guy just wanted to smoke & watch the Barnstormer ride, even though it's against the rules.

Disney has its DSA's set up just right. They're out of the way & in a few different areas of each park, so they're accessible enough to smokers but don't pose a problem to nonsmokers enjoying the main areas of the park- as long as the smokers follow the rules.

My mother smokes & had no problem using Disney's DSA's when we brought her on a trip with us last year. She was even in an ECV and didn't find the smokers' sections hard to manage.

It's good to hear a smoker's point of view on the issue, especially one who is as conscientious about it as you seem to be. As a non-smoker - thank you for that. I have no idea what the best solution would be other than to have it out of the way from the attractions, which is probably what was intended by having it on the trail. I'm sure with a little brainstorming, they could figure out a better plan.

I always thought the smoker's had the entire trail and thought that was good since they need a place, and it did seemed removed from everything. Crappy for trail use, but easy to avoid. I didn't realize it could impact the Barnstormer folks (since I'm a bit too big for it!). I would think given the number of smokers in the park, they'd need all that space. Not many great solutions in the MK. I'm not even sure where a single smoking area is at DS now that I think of it.

I'm happy to hear about the soy milk! Disney has been very accommodating of my sister and I's allergies, and its just nice to not have to worry about it being a hassle!

I emailed guest communications about just this thing tonight. It probably won't do any good but you never know.
Not to hijack post (sounds like a fun trip OP!)
But neither CoP nor Tiki room are on the MDE app for wait times so lots of people probably never even realize it is there
email:

app.support@disneyworld.com
To get them to put it on app. If tons of people start requesting it maybe the lugheads who run the company will realize that not every attraction needs to be a screen based thrill ride!
