First, THANK YOU EVERYONE at the DIS!!!! Because of reading posts here, we ask for an upgrade from a woodsview room and got it! I read that the charge was $30, but we ended up paying $40 and it was worth every penny of it. We checked in at 9:30am and I think that had something to do with the great room we received. The CM that checked us in was wonderful, she specifically looked for a room with a great view for us. I think if we would have had the third room down, we would have had a perfect view of the castle in the daytime, but I am NOT complaining one bit! We were upgraded to room 7066, the first room in the hallway of the concierge located on the MK side of the resort. There were 2 dead trees blocking the view of the castle, but since they were dead, there was plenty of room between the dried up leaves to see the castle lit up in all its glory at night. :bounce: We were able to see Space Mountain and the Cont. with no problems, and if I stood on the chair on the balcony, I could see Astro Orbitor. The fireworks were great from the room, unfortunately, I left the video camera at home because we had gone on a cruise. I really wished I had risked it and brought the camera! (still kicking myself ;)) I must have spent hours on the balcony enjoying the view the two nights were were there. The room faced the service area, but we heard more noise from the Cont service area than the one below us. We could also see the otter pond, but did not get to see the otters. The balcony is enclosed, but I really liked it better that way. It made it seem like we had 2 rooms instead of one. It is also bigger than the regular balconies.

Everyone was wonderful to us. We asked for bottled water the second day we were there and they gladly got it for us. It came in very handy on our walk over to Ft.Wilderness that morning. (nice walk, btw) They also made PS for us at Cape May for breakfast. (nice, quiet charactor b-fast, but I like their dinners better) Micheal, I think, was even nice enough to look up info about the shuttle landing to find out exactily what time and what to expect. (I've been fighting tears since 9:25 Sat morning when we found out what had happened) The food was so abundant that we only had to "eat out" once a day. That alone was worth the $40. I could not believe how much it saved us. We ate and ate and ate and were stuffed the entire trip! LOL Thurs night's hot dish was pork in an apple glaze w/ navy bean soup. Fri night was veggie spring rolls and clam chowder. Both night were wonderful! The liquers in the evening were Godiva (my fav), Kahlua (mixed with the milk provided for Kahlua and Cream both nights, YUMMY), Baily's, Grand Marnier and DeSorrano amaretto. I admit, I tried a little of all of them both nights. ;) If I could change anything about this trip it would have been to remember to get hot chocolate to drink while we watched the fireworks. Other than that, everything was Perfect!

Glad you had a great stay at WL! I believe the $30 concierge upgrade is from a courtyard view, while it's higher for woodsview, and standard rooms.

We were at the WL in room 7062 from the 21-27. I agree that the views from that area are spectacular. We paid $30 for our upgrade, but as plutospup pointed out, we were originally booked in a courtyard view room.

I would highly recommend the WL concierge. It was great, and if you can get an upgrade, a relatively inexpensive way to try our concierge service.

Does anyone know how much an upgrade to concierge is if you originally book a standard view room?

Hi there... I'd like to hear about the concierge lounge... did it have lots of seating and a TV with movies?

Thanx

>>^..^<<

There is not a TV, and there is not a lounge. There are tables which line the areas around the lobby on the 7th floor. The food offerings are set up at the base of the U-shaped area, and offers a great view of the pool area, the geyser, and the EWP. The concierge desk is located to the right as soon as you get out of the main lobby elevators.

We enjoyed the seating area, there are lots of tables, and it is nice to be able to sit and enjoy the beauty of the lobby.

This is interesting, I didn't realise there were concierge rooms with a view of the MK. Knowing this, I may be more tempted in the future to upgrade. $40 per night seems very reasonable, but for 10 nights given the other things we are doing for this holiday!

There is a relatively secluded spot in the lobby to watch movies. To the far right of registration, and more or less behind the bell captains desk there is a large screen tv with chairs, etc to watch movies. WL is filled with little "secret" areas to kick back and relax!

I was thinking of trying to get the upgrade, just to make the holiday that extra special. Only things are I couldn't afford the normal rate of concierge (it would have to be $40 per night) and the most important thing to my mum is the MK woodsview.

I thought of sending a nice (faxed) letter with a poem or something on it that would stand out... because I would love to check-in and appear to get the upgrade without asking (so that Mum doesn't know how much extra it is! -I'd pay by my own credit card)

Do you think this is possible?

Here's hoping. Hey - Any WL cast members out there?!! ... ;)

How long is the walk to Fort Wilderness? We are staying at WL but my mother will be staying in their RV at Fort Wilderness. Wondering if we can make the walk with a 4 and 7 year old.

I don;t remember exactly how long the walk is to FW but, there is a boat that will take you over to FW and it runs about every 10 minutes, there is also a bus.

I hope this helps

The walk to FW from WL is about 3/4 of a mile. Shouldn't take you too long.

We rented bicycles and went to FW checked out the petting zoo and then rode back to the WL in under a 1/2 hour.

I was kicking myself for not timing the walk, but it was enjoyable and didn't take too long. It would be great to take the boat over, then walk back and let the kids blow off some steam. At 4 and 7, they should be ready for a nap when you get back to the hotel. I would say it took us no more than 20 minutes at a very slow pace. (we were looking for animals, but only saw a squirrel) If your kids are not the type to just take off and head for the underbrush, it should be a nice walk for everyone. I was really suprised at how many boats were running this weekend. Before one boat made it to FW, there was another boat docking at WL. We walked over to FW for lunch and then took the boat back. We took the MK boat and it stopped at WL first, so it only took about 5 minutes, if that, to get back to the lodge. A word of warning about the larger boats. The horns are infront, so if you do not want to be deafened, sit inside or in the back. ;)

#1MMFan, the upgrade might be harder to get for that length of time. When you check in, ask if the upgrade (concierge specifically) is available. If they say no, ask if it is for only part of the stay. If you are willing to change rooms, it might help to get the upgrade. In my oppinion, it would be worth it to switch rooms during your stay.

jlieblaw, sorry I don't know the price difference from a standard room.

This part should be on the budget board, but I will post it here since we are talking about concierge. We only at one meal "out" while we were on the concierge floor. The food that they provided was plenty for us for the rest of the day. On Thurs, we spent $22 at the Pepper market because we had the connections vouchers. On Fri we ate lunch at FW for a total of $28. On Sat we ate breakfast at Cape May with the vouchers and which cost us $35. I have never been on vacation and spent so little on food. The total for 3 days, including the $40 a day for the upgrade was only $165. That's only $55 a day for 2 people and we were stuffed the entire time we were there. That also includes all drinks! Like I said, the cordials at night was the liquire that we drank. We asked for bottled water to take with us for the walk over to FW. And they have soda a dinner time, so we drank a can with dinner and took one back to the room when we were done eating. We didn't use our mugs except after checked out when we were leaving. Over all, as long as they have this option, we will take advantage of it. If they discontinue it, I will certainly weigh the price differences between a regular room and concierge at the WL, before choosing a room in the future. That doesn't mean the concierge is worth it every time, but there are times that it is worth paying extra for.

Thanks for the report! The WL concierge sounds wonderful! :)

We too were able to score an upsell to concierge -- we had room 7047, a courtyard view (we could watch the EWP from our balcony) and our friends were in 7046, they had a clear view of the castle.

I was told the following info:
upsells are available only when the resort is slow. Don't count on getting one during a holiday week or any busy weekend. If you are in a Courtyard, you will pay additional $30/nt -- Woods View - $40/nt -- and Standard = $50/nt. If concierge is important to you and you are travelling during a busy time -- book what you want, don't count on an upsell.

I agree, the $30 was well spent. The concierge gave us bottled water and canned sodas upon request and even got special beer for the guys when they didn't care for the original selection. The wine was surprisingly good for the open bar type concept -- and I think I gained 5# on the desserts!

This resort never ceases to Wow me -- I don't think I'll stray to another resort again after this latest stay.
