We got back sat night 12/13, after a week's stay at #404 from vacationcentralflorida.com. It was a great condo, 4th flr. Very clean, very quiet. Very cute disney decorations. We saw one other family in the elevator once all week.
This was our first time staying off site and although it was much cheaper room wise and much bigger, we've decided we prefer on site (I know most of you are thinking we are crazy:) Our group felt that there was no magic offiste (I know that sounds corny). No great holiday decorations or hidden mickeys. No "Welcome Home" at the security entrance. We had no problems at all at WH just none of that extra that we love about Disney.
One of our fav parts of any Disney trip is eating at the different Disney resorts and park restaurants and since we could not do the dining plan offsite, it made us more budget conscience as far as meals go. And even though it is very close to AK, we found that after leaving the parks and going back to the condo, we were much less likely to want to drive back for dinner. We are just not one of those families that saves money by eating at home when on vacation. Part of the vacation for us is eating out at all the great Disney restaurants.
That said, that is just our opinion and we would def recommend the condo to anyone considering staying offsite, esp at WH. I'm happy to answer any questions.-Rebecca

I don't think you are crazy at all. We stayed once off property, and while the place would have been great anywhere else, not at Disney. I need to be surronded by all the magic.

Our trip last month we arrived to Orlando earlier than planned and stayed off property for one night. The hotel was perfectly fine, but not Disney, and when we got to our room I cried. I couldn't explain it it was just not the way I expected to start our trip. My DH said he'd get our money back and try to find something on property but I said no, I just couldn't preventing it from coming out. It really made me apprecaite our stay on property.

How far from the pool was your unit? Did you have any issues with the rental agent? We're thinking of WH for April because the kids are old enough that they want to bring a friend.

I don't think you are crazy. We stayed in a townhouse at WH and thought it was very nice. While we don't have to always stay onsite, we at least want to stay somewhere with a "resort" feel, and to us, WH felt like a housing development.

You got to 404 the day we left.

We loved 404, the decorations were nice.

We liked staying off site. I enjoy my morning time while the family is still sleeping. I like making my coffee, grabbing my book, and hanging out reading before anyone gets up.

-We were very close to the pool. Just cross the street and follow a little sidewalk for less than 5 minutes.
-We had no problems at all, when you rent from the site, you are dealing directly with the owners. Our unit was owned by the Archakis family and it was super smooth, fast, and efficient. They are very professional.-Rebecca

Garsh....I have stayed on property the last two times but the last time we did we were all crammed in POR with 5 people. And my DH hates Disney. So this trip, I am going to try staying off-property at 5 bdrm WH house. I am hoping that there is enough Disney for us Disney lovers who are going on-property to the parks....and a lack of Disney at WH for DH to be happy. I know I am going to miss going to all of the restaurants, but I am saving and planning on going to a few dinners and lunches. Afterall I can't go to Disney and not eat at OHana's.....it would be.....it would be.....indecent....:rotfl:

I am sitting here pricing out a vacation with a WH condo rental instead of staying onsite... and with the money we're saving we'll be able to eat at 'Ohana every night!

My family and I recently rented a townhouse at WH, this was our first offsite stay and like you were missing the magic of the onsite stay. There was no problem with the place we rented or the owner but won't be staying offisite again while going to Disney.
