Just back from WDW using MYW dining plan

Thanks so much for sharing your exp, I like hearing a positive one =) I think the dining plan will be great once everyone figures out all the kinks, and how to work it the best for their family. I know that WE can't eat for $35 a day at WDW usually, so it's a good deal even if you have leftover stuff. =)

A couple of more questions if you don't mind (don't you love being one of the first guinea pigs to use this plan!) :earsboy:

Are all the meals put on one card? I'm a little confused about that. If there's myself, DH, and two teens when we check out would we just give them one card to take care of the meals?

From the brochure: "use your meals and snacks in any order and in any amount throughout your package stay until your total is depleted".

Do you think it would be allowed to use some meals to "buy" dinner for someone who isn't in your room and not on the plan? For instance using 6 dinners at once when there are four people in a room on the plan and two people off-site?

Thanks! You're being a great help!!

I am DYING to know the answer to this!

Since they don't separate the kids meals from the adults meals how on earth did you keep track of what your credits were?

With two 7-year-olds half of your credits would have technically been good ONLY for kids meals. Did you find that confusing?

On our recent trip DS and I shared lunches a couple of days, meaning the credits left from us sharing an adult meal would have been "kid meal" credits. (We weren't on the plan, I am trying to figure it out for next time.) But the "bank" of meals doesn't say what kind of meals you have left. Was that a problem for you all or did you always order 2 adult and 2 kid meals? Thanks!

Pea-n-me,

Maybe you can help some of us on another thread.....did your brochure on the Dining Plan specify what snacks were available? Was anything available at the Main Street Bakery? In other words, what can you tell us about snacks? Thanks! :goodvibes
Here's what it says in the brochure about snacks: Your Snack includes your choice of one (1) of the following:
Frozen Ice Cream Bar
Popcorn Scoop (single serving box)
20 oz bottle of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite or 24 oz Dasani Water
Medium Fountain Soft Drink
You can find Snack locations throughout the Theme Parks or at Counter Service locations in the Resorts. All cart locations selling frozen ice-cream novelties, popcorn or Coca-Cola products accept your Disney Dining Plan.

However, it also lists a chart with all the available Disney Dining Plan locations with check marks for what is available there. The Main Street Bakery has a check mark for counter service AND snacks.

Does everyone have to have the meal package? I knw it would be a waste of money for my 12 year old. Could just 2 people have it and not the others?

For instance, say it is 2 adults, 2 children. I know sharing (or buying seperatly) would be the best bet for us.

one more question....(BTW thanks AGAIN for helping out)...ok,,,are the meals set up for nights spent at resorts? or days? For example..DH and I are going, we PLAN to be at POP for 3 nights.BUT only at WDW for 2 days(dont smack me)(doing USF and IOA one day)... coupons for the nights or the days we actually buy tix for?only i would be so very confusing sorry........

Allison, its for however many nights you have booked your resort for. If I'm wrong someone correct me.

Did you children get an appetizer with their sit down meals? If so, was it an adult appetizer or did they get a "kid's version"?

The appetizer could be my son's meal in and of itself....

From the brochure:

Redeeming Your Meals
Present your Key to the World card to your server prior to ordering so your server knows to charge meals to your Disney Dining Plan.

Tracking Your Meals
Your meal usage will be tracked electronically to your package reservation. Each time you redeem your meals or snacks from your Disney Dining Plan, your server of cashier will provide you with a receipt showing your remaining balance for that portion of your Disney Dining Plan.

It's only supposed to be for those listed on your reservation.

We only went to one sit down restaurant (50's PTC) where you could order appetizers; the others were either buffets or LTT where they brought food over for the whole table. At 50's PTC only DH and I ordered apps because in ordering off the kids menu there were no apps. I was so full that night with all that food and 4 huge desserts!

I bet they'd let you order just an appetizer for your DS if that's what he wanted in place of the kids meal. The price is probably about the same. Most of the CMs are pretty reasonable and accomodating.

We had a few instances where we didn't order exactly the way we were supposed to and they were fine with it (we asked first). For instance, once I ordered coleslaw which wasn't included and they put it in with my salad. Another time I wanted to try an item and was going to pay for it and when I offered they just rung it in with the meal.

When we booked the package, we were told our Son would also get an appetizer, meal, Soda & desert with his sit down. I'm curious to see if that holds true. It's not a deal breaker, but it would make sharing food with our 18month old a lot easier....

How old is your son?

One thing you from the brochure you may find helpful:
Redeeming Your Meals
Children ages 3-9 must order from the children's menu where available. Children under the age of 3 may share from the adult's plate if desired.

You might do well with the buffets also. :wizard:

Be sure to let us know your experience when you get back.

He's Six. My daughter is 19 months old.

Like I said it's not a deal breaker, but I hate not getting something I was promised :(

Still digging out from the snow? I'm actually in Orlando this week on business and got to miss the blizzards :)

Yes, to book the dining portion of the package everyone on the reservation has to have it. I can see how it might not pan out for a 12yr old unless they have a big appetite.

Did your kids consistently order kids meals or were there times when they ended up with adult meals? Since the credits aren't designated as "adult" or "child" I was wondering about that. Obviously they would get a meal from the kids menu at table service, but what about counter? I think our posts crossed earlier in the thread. :)

Yup. Got home yesterday, thankfully our neighbor had come over with his Bobcat to shovel out our driveway and walkways. My poor dog got his "wheels" in the mail today so he had to try them out in Blizzard #2 this afternoon! Thought I'd have a quiet day to myself but nope, kids were home. Enjoy your time in the nice weather!

Yes, like at the Electric Umbrella (posted earlier) and also at Pop Century food court my DS didn't like the choices so we got him a hot dog (only on the adult menu) and it wasn't a problem. They're pretty flexible. We never encountered anyone who held us steadfast to the exact plan, though we really didn't stray very far from what was intended. I'm sure they must see the same issues crop up a lot.

ETA: Just noticed you're staying at Pop. I really liked it there! I thought the food at the food court was actually pretty good, though we only ate there twice. The parmesean crusted chicken was very good as was the meatball sub. Don't forget to watch the CMs dance the Twist in the food court every 8am and the Hustle every 6pm.

Just got off the phone with WDW dine. CM wasn't sure & put me on hold to check. She came back & told me FDP is NOT included.

While I was on the phone I told her I understood my entire family has to be on the plan & I would be paying $35.00 for my 11 DS but he still eats off the kids menus & could I pay for his meal seperately. She said I most certainly could. This is great news for me!

I don't understand this at all! If you are paying for the adult fare, why can't the child order a (cheaper, smaller!) kids meal without having to pay extra?

So what would happen if you book the room for 2 and get the dining program for 2 but people come down later in the week to stay. Would they then have to purchase the meal plan?
