The first thing I noticed at Tokyo DisneySea is how pleasant and helpful everyone was. This seems to be a part of the Japanese culture. If you are a guest then you are treated with honor. I know I know, this is the Disney way, and I have always been treated well at WDW, with few exceptions, and the Florida cast members are wonderful, but Tokyo was truly amazing! I never encountered a cast member that was too busy to help, or distracted or hurried in any way. I was always greeted with a smile, EVERY SINGLE TIME. There were times when I had my camera out when I shouldn't have. A smiling cast member would say "excuse me" in Japanese and offer to take a picture of me in front of the attraction, then use sign language to ask me to put the camera away, then thank me, give me a sticker and wave good bye.
When I first arrived I left my laptop on a bus by mistake, I was close to the Hilton Hotel at Tokyo Bay so I asked for help. I unfortunately do not speak Japanese except for a few phrases, and most of the staff did not speak much english, But we communicated. The front desk Manager called the bus company, tracked down the driver, the driver drove back, and my computer was delivered to the MiraCosta where I was staying. The MiraCosta in fact sent a car driven by a cast member to pick me up ( I was out of Japanese currency and there was no ATM nearby that would accept my card,so I couldn't take a taxi). NO ONE, I REPEAT, NO ONE WOULD ACCEPT A TIP! In fact the concierge at the MiraCosta smiled and gently admonished me with an understanding yet firm demeanor, "We do not have this custom". I was told that the Tokyo Cast Members are paid better than their Florida counterparts , so tips are not a necessity, but no one tips in Japan!
It was also the Cleanest place I have ever been in my life! Not a wrapper, not even a leaf could be seen on the grounds of the hotel or the theme parks. It was incredible. I will post a trip report on the trip reports board. Can anyone. tell me how to post photos?
Talk to everyone soon!
