just back from the Poly

Sorry for your inconvenience! We stayed Poly CL last fall and had a wonderful stay. However, we did have housekeeping problems at AKL the previous year. I guess it's just luck of the draw.

I know Disney calls their hotels "Deluxe", but they are not 5 star hotels. The Four Seasons and the Ritz Carlton are usually true "Deluxe" hotels. At those hotels, you generally pay considerably more than a Disney Deluxe. (Rack rate at the Four Seasons Maui runs over $600 per night!) It's too bad that guests assume they are getting Four Seasons-type hotels (in part because of Disney's marketing). Sadly, in most resort cities, a true 5 star hotel costs far more than WDW.

That being said, I think the OP was correct in getting management involved immediately instead of waiting until he got home.

I wish I could get the Four Seasons Maui for $600 a night! :rotfl2: Most rooms there have a maximum of 3 to a room, so my family of 4 would need two rooms at more than $900 night EACH (pricing for next summer's vacation) and that is not even ocean view.

Yes, except for their elaborate theming, the Disney Deluxe's are on par with a nice Marriott / Westin / Hilton and can't compare to the service at a Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, Fairmont, etc.

I feel your pain. We just got back from the Poly on 9/2/07 and had a lot of problems also. This was not our first stay there but may be our last. Our safe was also locked and it took over 3 1/2 hours for them to come up and fix it, they couldn't find our luggage, but finally did after 4 phone callse, the fridge did not work, we had no water one morning and to top it off, we went to the parks and were told that our tickets weren't on our room key and no manager to speak with. .

jjjbdisney
oh my I wasn't the only one... thats horrible about the tickets, did you get it rectified @ the park or did you have to return to the hotel? Every time I needed to talk to a manager I requested one, I had to wait a few minutes but one came to speak w/me. When I first called down about the safe they said that I would have to wait & I told them NO WAY. A cm was @ my door in about 10 minutes. I love how people are writing that these are not true deluxe resorts.... I paid 1/3 of the price last summer and stayed @ the Marriott reniassance @ Sea World. Beautilful, clean, very large rooms not a problem. Have stayed @ the hard rock & portofino bay resorts for less & got wonderful service & accomodations. Disney not only needs to live up to their reputation but realize if they are going to charge big bucks where hotels are a dime a dozen in the area they have to bring things up to par. I will not spend the money for the poly again. I am intrigued about the Wilderness lodge though. I'm glad that I got to enjoy the last half of my vacation though. Conceirge Service was great there I do have to say.

Better trips to come .............

Sorry about your trip!! Some of those things would have annoyed me too..
I think really though, as gross as it is, the bug b/w the sheets probably wasn't there when they made the bed. It is VERY likely that it went there after it was made.. bugs do that, they are small and can squeeze in those small places.. so i am fairly sure that it wasn't made up that way.. but yes, it is still gross! Don't get me wrong! LOL I hate bugs, so i would have freaked! LOL

I haven't ever had any of these problems at any of the deluxes we have stayed at before, i think generally Disney does a good job, but yes, there will always be those few incidents.. however, you just lucked out (for the worse) that you had a few incidents during your stay... that's too bad. :(
I really wouldn't discourage you from trying another deluxe, or even the poly again someday.. as i said, as awful as it was - it was definately not the "norm", and as i said, i have been lucky enough to not encounter any of this.. ;)
Again, sorry about your stay!! We are heading to poly conciege this november, and hopefully won't encounter this!

My room at AKL had DEAD bugs all over it, and that was definately a housekeeping issue. I was later told by housekeeping that the room hadn't been used in quite some time (which was very obvious as even the towel animal had a thick coating of dust on it) and someone was supposed to clean it before they put a guest in there.

I still think that dirty rooms are disgusting at any level, whether Value or Deluxe, even if Disney's "Deluxe" level isn't truly "Deluxe" by industry standards. Is it too much to expect a sanitary room? I hope not. Okay, sorry, I'm climbing back down off of my soap box now...:rolleyes1

I have to ask :goodvibes what building you were in? Sorry about your stay at the Poly. I'm not too thrilled to be hearing bad reviews though.

Wow!! That really stinks. We were there the same time as you guys and did not have any type of problem at all. We were second floor of Samoa. Our room was very clean and mousekeeping was great, I even commented on it because we were there at the same time last year and dont remember our room being as clean as it was this time. We had a few towel arrangements, 2 extra blankets as well as an extra pillow, a working refrigerater (although every time I opened the cabinet it was very warm and I did wonder how it could work efficiently in this type of cabinet) and no bugs, thank goodness.
One thing I have learned, from staying at other hotels, not just Disney, is to keep your luggage with you at all times. Bell service can be very slow and with our wheeled luggage even my youngest has always been able to pull a small suitcase without a problem. We take it on ME with us for this very reason. I am so sorry that you had such a terrible experience. This was our second stay at the Poly and I wouldnt dream of staying anywhere else.

Sorry, IMO clean rooms and polite staff are not a hallmark of just deluxe resorts, but SHOULD be a hallmark of the entire hotel industry. I have stayed at a Comfort Inn on Rt. 95 for $59/night and had a spotless room with very pleasant southern hospitality. Unfortunately the old saying "you get what you pay for" doesn't necessarily pan out for the hotel industry.:sad2:

Ick! I can overlook a few things here and there, but that sounds like too much! Sorry this happened on your vacation.

For that price I wouldn't accept they're on a tight schedule or anything of that sort. We never stayed but visited and looked at the rooms couple years back as we were thinking of a split the following trip, and the place was nice but looked "tired" and a little run down for the price, particularly the buildings and rooms. Now the YC/BC, GF, and others looked incredible. My DH and I thought we would like Poly the best. I would have really flipped if I paid that price and had all those problems. But at least they did try to make good. Hopefully Disney reads these sites and will do something. Everything in Disney we pay top price for. They need to hire more housekeeping staff or pay them better, they sure get paid enough themselves. I agree with the above poster about the moderates. You get a lot of bang for your buck, I've stayed at all of them and I always felt they were well worth the price I paid and more. Wonderful!

Sorry to hear about the problems during your stay. We too, had 2 of your same problems. The safe was locked and my dh laptop belongs to the govt. so there was no way we were leaving until they opened the safe in our room. Also our door, also was broken. We left for the parks, but I was not comfortable. You can look up my trip report. Sadly, its from last dec. and it seems the Poly Hawaii Bldg. is still having problems. Hope your next trip is better. I too am thinking about where our next resort will be.

I've never stayed at the Poly, but last year DH and I spent 5 days at GF.

Housekeeping was a big problem. We left our room each morning by 8:30am. On two accasions we returned to our room around 3:00pm and still no housekeeping. The hallway outside our room had the same debris on it the day we left as it did the day we arrived.

I really didn't have any expectations, but my DH was really looking forward to staying at what was suppossed to be their flagship resort. He was sooo disappointed.

IMO they need to overhaul the housekeeping system for the entire resort.

We were at the Poly from 8/26 - 9/1. We were in Tahiti. Mousekeeping did a great job the entire time we were there. We came back to our room every day around 2 pm and our room had been made up every time.

Wow, it's one thing to go through things like that the first day in your first room, but for it to continue over for almost 3 days just plain stinks. I'm glad they comp'd you, but it just should have never happened in the first place. The dead bug thing under the covers may or may not have been mousekeepings fault, but the bread and diapers?? Plus the locks not working or the fridges, that's unacceptable, this is a deluxe resort like you stated people pay over 300 bucks a night and that's a lot of money for a room, some 4 star hotels you can get a suite for that amount outside of Disney.

I'm glad you had a good time regardless!

I also have done alot of buisness travel and have spent my share of time in 4 and 5 star hotels in manhattan and have to say get to know your bugs. When I first started dong business travel I encountered bed bugs in San Fransisco. I did not know better and thought they were a kind of beatle. I then saw them for second time in Scottsdale Arizona. I got bit this time and knew something was up. When I saw them in New York I knew what they were. I am super carefull with my cleaning and drop off all my clothes from a vacation at laundry when I get home from vacation I also spray my luggage with bug spray and never let it sit on the ground (carpet). With some luck I've never had a bed bug infestation but I have known people who've gotten them while on vacation and had to essentially throw most of there belongings away as well as go through months of exterminator visits not pleasant and they stick to everything. They look like little beetles and its well worth people doing a google search online. Just know your bugs because I know if I find a bug in my hotel room I'm not asking for another room I'm asking for another resort.

I hope you don't mind me saying but all that was difficult to read without paragraphs. It's much better to use them for long posts.

Sorry your stay wasn't good. And it's a shame because your upgrade to the Hawaii building should have been nice. I've read a few things recently about bad housekeeping in the resorts which is worrying.

I don't think I would have been able to eat dinner after finding brown stuff behind the daybed. Was it used diapers you found or clean ones?
