Myself along with DH and DDs 4&6 stayed at the POly LV Conc from 8/15-18. (We sailed on the Wonder 18-22). This board has been an invaluable source of info and insight. Prior to our arrival, I requested first floor and if that was not available, third floor. I know these requests are not guaranteed to be fufilled. I also informed the staff that we were celebrating my hubby's 40th as well as my girls summer birthdays. That said....

We arrived via Tiffany Towncar and checked in at the outside desk. About 30minutes later, a cart came by to take us to Hawaii. The Bellman told us we would be checked into 2508. When I toldhim that I would like to talk to someone about the assignment, he said that his job was to put the luggage in the assigned room and that I would have to speak to someone afterwards. When we got to Hawaii, noone greeted us (as I expected they would after reading these boards). Rather, we went rather unnoticed to our room.

Room 2508 had an excellent view of the lagoon and castle. I was still, however, disappointed that I did not get what I requested so I went downstairs to speak to someone (and to check in). The woman I spoke to was empathetic and called someone to arrange a change. When alternatives seemed to be impractible, I asked about my biggest concern about a second floor assignment, that being, whether the windows/doors opened. The Conc. rep stated that she didn't know because she had "never been in those rooms". As it turned out, we stayed in 2508, (the sliding glass doors open) and we had an excellent view of the beach and castle. My expectation level of the service I expected at the conc. level, however, became questionable. (We never got the bead neaklaces either)

The Poly itself is wonderful. Although I prefer newer and different themed resorts (like the WL), the Poly is beautiful and the pool is spectacular.

The Conc. service, however, I thought was rather useless and not worthy of the additional cost. By way of example I cite:

The checkin process took so long, I felt we could have just as well gone thru the regular checkin and taken advantage of the beautiful and welcoming atmosphere of the Great Ceremonial Hall.

As stated above, the person I spoke with in the Conc. didn't know if the windows/doors opened on the second floor. The glass was also really smudged with handprints (from previous guests I guess). The phone and TV remote control did not work which suggested to me that noone really checked the room prior to our arrival. I will note that these problems were solved fairly quickly after notifying Conc.

The food offerrings were nicely presented, but, with the exception of the "main entree/offerring", the fare was exactly the same each day...the same fruit, cheese, veggie, blah, blah, blah. The cookies offered throughout the day were okay, but the selection never changed. We sampled the evening fare on 2 of the 3 nights we were there. The first night there were chicken wings. I could not bring myself to eat them because some still had feathers on them. I am not speaking of the fine hairlike ones that I can ignore, (even though my mother insists that they should be singed off over a stovetop flame). These were actual feathers which one would expect to be plucked off during the cleaning process. I am not extra picky when it comes to food, but there were enough to catch my attention.

Next point of aggravation...I told a client that I would send a final draft of a document we had been working on prior to my arrival to the Poly. I asked the Conc. staff if the resort had email capabilities. One person said no, that I would have to go to GF business/conference services. I asked where it was located and was told to call the GF. Then another person said words to the effect "I think I saw some machine they put in the Ceremonial House next to the telephones...I might have been a computer". That person then said, "I was on my way over there so we can find out together, okay:rolleyes: On the way(just past the pool) however, the Conc CM was met with a very irrate guest who was staying in the Pres. Suite. She was livid about the treatment she received and the CM tuned into her completely and left me standing nearby looking stupid.

When I found the internet phone (there is one in the Ceremonial House next to the phones)they were not working:eek: So, I walk back to Hawaii and the Conc. staff is present but there is a cord across the Conc. I asked if I could have a doc. faxed. They state that they are "closed".

We had ps to Cindy's on Sat. 8/17(I made them) I forgot that corfirmation code so I asked Conc. CM to print a copy (to get into the park). The comfirmation had the wrong day !

I could go on...... The Poly itself is great. The Conc. service is, well, very weak, and I could not recommend it to anyone. I am happy to ask any questions...

Overall, I found the Conc. CM to be useless. You had to wait long times to see them

well, I'm sorry to hear you had a not so good experience with the Poly concierge. I hope they work on the service there. It stinks to pay for concierge service and get nothing but aggravation.
I hope you vacation at WDW was a fun one though!

Concierge can really spoil you if you have great level of service!
Try Yacht club concierge next time, I think you'd be happy :D

Laura :D :D :D

They give out leis, not bead necklaces. Sorry you had a problem there. We never have. :D

Since the person staying in the Pres Suite was irrate, I think a call and letter to whom ever is in charge is in order. Something to the effect of the ignorance of the staff and such? Ask for whatever would make you happy, but the only thing that would make me happy is to be reimbersed the difference in room price between Conc and a regular room WITH a code. (I can dream, can't I? LOL) I was just looking into changing one night of our vacation offsite to stay in Conc at one of the resorts and the Poly being my favorite, this really concerns me. You can bet that the person staying in the Pres suite will contact higher ups, why not let them know it wasn't just them? KWIM?

I understand your frustration as we just stayed at the Polynesian concierge in May for my honeymoon and found the staff to be lacking as well. One of the guys working the concierge desk had just been transferred from the CSR valet dept. (he told us) so you can imagine the extent of his concierge/customer svc skills.

I really really believe that reading the boards causes over the top expectations of the resorts/service....especially concierge, because you read about 1 fantastic stay and then expect all those things to happen to you and then they don't and you are let down.:(

this is just my opinion.

Because she didn't get her question answered first by a CM, you think she should get hundreds of dollars in "compensation"? Why does every little slight have everyone wanting compensation. On concierge level you get PS (if available), food offerings and beverages.....not a servant to cater to your every whim.

This sounds very familiar to me... we had the same experiences with the Polynesian Concierge last fall... I do agree that some get overly high expectations from reading these boards, but since this was our 4th or so stay at the Polynesian Concierge, I think that the concierge set our expectations. In our previous trips we had a WONDERFUL experience in the conc. building, but the last one left us vowing never to stay at the Polynesian Concierge again... we love the Polynesian so we'll certainly stay there again, just not in concierge room... Kind of an FYI... when we went to the Wilderness Lodge in April, we found that one of the former cast members who worked in the Polynesian Concierge, some of you may know him... was working at the Wilderness Lodge... and he was one of the most helpful people we'd ever come across (at the Polynesian).

I also felt the CM's at the concierge desk were lacking this last trip (4th of July).

I'm crossing my fingers that our upcoming concierge trip to the Poly will be a good one (just a few days away). We don't have super high expectations. We booked the concierge to get the lounge and the snacks and drinks. We usually call on the priority seats ourselves, just because we never know what we really want to eat until we get there. So, as long as there's food and drink in the lounge and the rooms are nice, I'll be happy.

I can live with a couple of cast members having a bad day. Of course, if I get treated like crap, I might think differently. But I'm staying at the Poly for the excellent view and the lounge -- not for a personal staff that caters to my every whim. Plus, I already received great service from the Poly via email and they've helped arrange everything to make my trip good.

You'll find out our initial impressions when we post our trip reports to our site each day while we're there.

:)

I could not bring myself to eat them because some still had feathers on them.

That is absolutely gross and unacceptable, ANYWHERE!

On concierge level you get PS (if available), food offerings and beverages.....not a servant to cater to your every whim.

I don't think anyone here expects a servant, do they?
