My 7 yo is so sick. He started complaining with his legs hurting a couple of days ago then this morning he wakes up with fever, coughing, the whole nine yards. They did the flu test - He has type A. Well, we fly out to california next tuesday so the dr put him on tamiflu and prescribed it for me and my daughter as prevention. Hopefully it will work. Why is it nobody gets sick until you're going out of town? Anybody know any tried and true remedies? Oh yeah, guess how much three rx's for tamiflu were with insurance? It was $150.00. :scared1: It would have been $393.00 with out insurance. That's crazy. Hopefully my little will be feeling better soon. Thanks for listening.

Sorry that your son feels yucky...:grouphug: for your family.

We have probably had the flu, but our dr. never did the tests so I have no advise about the Tamiflu...

Hope everyone stays healthy and wait til the little one gets better before you do the group hug;) Diane.

Sorry, there is no remedy for the flu. But I believe the worst should be over by next Tuesday.

Ohhh, your poor baby :( I feel for him, truly. This year our family has been sick a LOT, myself twice, and I hardly EVER get sick. I don't think that any of us has had the flu, but then we didn't go to the doctor to be diagnosed either so who knows?

 for you all!

I am supposed to be in WDW right now but had to cancel my trip because of the nasty flu. It lasted almost 2 weeks and for 1 1/2 weeks of that, I could not even leave my bed. It was horrible! I am so sad that I am missing my trip!:sad1: I NEVER get sick!

Hopefully your son gets better soon and you can all enjoy your vacation.

Kristine

Thanks for all the hugs and kind words. I feel pretty sure he'll be over the worst by tuesday. I just don't want my daughter and I to get it since were going out of town. Has anybody ever taken tamiflu as a prevention like us? Thanks again.

No remedies, it just has to run it's course. I believe Tamiflu is supposed to lessen the symptoms a little as well as shorten it by 1-2 days, although I do not have any personal experience with it. I hope you don't have to cancel your trip.

My DD-8 had it in Jan. She was so sick. She missed 6 days of school.
The leg pain can get so bad that he might not be able to walk.

Good luck.

I honestly was getting quite worried because he was hurting so bad when he walked. He was walking like a little old man. While we were in the waiting room at the dr's office, a girl about the same age as my son came in limping. I asked her mom about it. She said hers started over the weekend and that her daughter fell this morning because her legs were hurting so bad. This is some bad stuff.

I was sick like that back in the 70's. I thought I was going to die. I have had a flu shot every year since then because I never, ever wanted to be THAT sick again.

I certainly hope that your son feels better soon and that nobody else gets sick.

I've never even heard of a test for the flu before, guess I won't be much help with the Tamiflu question :lmao:

I do hope you are all healthy enough for your upcoming trip though :goodvibes

My DD got sick over the weekend, took her in to see the Dr on Monday. She was diagnosed with Influenza B. We're all on Tamiflu as well. Our Insurance doesn't cover name-brand Rx very well. I WISH our costs were "only" $150 for us...by the time we're done it will be around $240 for 3 courses of TamiFlu. :scared1:

oscillococcinum
from the box:
Feeling run down, headache, body aches, chills, fever.
No Side Effects. No drug interactions. Non-Drowsy.

You can get it a walmart for under $9. Has 6 vials and you take one every 6 hours.
My DH had the flu and one of his co-workers recommended it for the rest of us to take too. Figured it can't be any worse than Ziacam for you.

We did take it. I didn't start taking it until after I was feeling a little achey & tired. It never progressed from that for me. My little guys never got anything.

They have website. Do your own research first. :thumbsup2

Yes and we didn't get it. However it is supposed to lessen the symptoms if you do.

Hang in there.

Actually, I have. I know many folks like oscillococcinum, but I am not satisfied that it can really achieve anything beyond what I would consider a placebo effect.

Besides, I tend to look at the source. It's made from the heart & liver of a Muscovy duck, the original solution then being diluted over 200 times. I guess I just don't see how any "medicine" so diluted can be strong enough to knock out the Flu.

Gagirl69 - Hope everyone is feeling better at your house and *soon*.

My 6 year old had Influenza A last week. She did recieve the flu shot, but my pediatrician says it was not as effective as they hoped this year. She had leg pain too, but she ended up being diagnosed with anaphylactoid purpura or HSP as well.

I hope your little one gets better soon.

Thanks for another side. :thumbsup2
