We just returned from our first DVC trip. We bought a BWV resale in May, but as BWV was already booked by then, we stayed at SSR 11/5-9. Our group of 6 ranged from 6 years old to 70 tears old.

We checked in about 11:30 and had about a 20 minute wait. Room was ready at 1:30. Used tehtime to get lunch and then groceries. There is a Winn Dixie very close which the front desk CM told me about. All CM's we encountered were very pleasant.

At check in we asked for the Springs as we wanted to be close to the main pool and Artist's Palette. We had a dedicated 2BR on the 4th floor across from the pool and busstop, with a view of a pond and fountain. Loved the unit. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out . The unit was clean, new and lovely. Lighter than the pictures show. The kids enjoyed the jacuzzi tub. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony. The outside hallways were no big deal for us. The architecture of the buildings is lovely as are the grounds. Overall we were thrilled with the unit and found SSR very relaxing.

As an aside, we are from Saratoga Springs, NY. The decor and ambience are very authentic. All around us pictures. paintiings, signs were bery familiar.

We liked Artists Palette, even preferred it to other resort counter service. I liked the sandwiches and salads rather than burgers and pizza. I recommend the roast beef and blue cheese sandwich. Service was quicker than expected and pleasant. Basic groceries, frozen food and beer and wine wereavailable. Some selection of souvenirs. Would like a larger gift shop like the other resorts.

We did not use the bus service, so can't comment. We found it very easy to drive to teh parks, was quicker than I expected.

High Rock pool was fun, spent time there daily. It was very relaxing. pleasant music. There were plenty of people there but it was not overcrowded. Liked the sizeable jacuzzi. Lifeguards had games for the kids most days. Did not do the Community Hall activities, not enough time.

Our stay was so enjoyable DH and I agreed next time we will spend a little more time just enjoying the resort and a little less time in the parks. It was that nice!

As an epilogue, after SSR we spent 3 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel. Never again. Way too loud. Loud music everywhere and unruly kids. Some very un-Disney bathing suits. lol! Resort was not as clean. Not at all relaxing. I did this part of the trip to humor DH, who loves the roller coasters at Universal. After 1 day he agreed, Disney does it so much better and from now on we only stay at Disney.

Our first DVC was truly magical, and we can't wait to return next year. Would be happy to answer any questions.

No questions, just glad you had a great time and shared your positive comments.

I love this resort and have been really surprised at some of the negative comments about it. I agree I found AP to be a refreshing change from burgers and chicken tenders.

I also appreciate the comment about the theme. I think sometimes the comments that SSR has no real theme, simply means that the person commenting does not know enough about Saratoga Springs, NY to know if it is authenic or not.

Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the great review! SSR is our home resort, though we haven't stayed there yet. It's nice to hear such good things about it!

Thanks for sharing! Glad you had a great time! :cool1:

We just bought in to SSR and your report makes me want to go now!!!

Thanks for getting me psyched!

Thanks for the report. We too just stayed at SSR and did an add-on on the spot! We loved it! Reading your report makes me want to go back right now (as I look out the window at the dreary November day in Chicago!).

great trip report, thank you for sharing. Glad you had a good time at SSR. We really like the sandwiches @ AP also, my fav is the turkey & Brie :goodvibes

I have a quick question. Are they selling SSR refillable mugs yet? I heard the ones they have been selling were just a generic DVC mug. We are planning a trip for June & even though we will most likely be having coffee in the villa, I like to collect the mugs from each resort.

Thanks!

SSR is getting some very good press lately!!! We are going home to OKW next month and plan to take the tour of SS, maybe we'll have to buy on the spot also! So glad you had such a good experience. Honi :sunny:

Last May we too stayed at HRH after a very quick stay at SSR and could not believe how rude the staff were at HRH.

Can't wait for our vacation next October at SSR

So nice to hear your great comments. We stayed at SSR in October, our first trip as DVC members, and I was nervous after reading all of the negative comments about it. But we LOVED it - it is a beautiful resort, great location, and I'm going to have a hard time making myself stay at other DVC resorts in the future! I can't wait to show it off to my parents next December!

I'm still hearing that they are generic DVC mugs.

We also stayed at SSR in October. Our home resort is VWL and at first I was disappointed that I could not get a reservation there. No need to be concerned. We were in a studio at Congress Park - a long walk to AP - but we had a car so this was not a problem for us. We only ate breakfast at AP, but I loved the breakfast flatbread. In fact we plan on having breakfast there again in February even though we will be staying at VWL. The resort is lovely.

It is so nice to hear these positive comments about SSR! We've stayed there 3 times now and love it more with each stay! They've done a beautiful job with all the landscaping, color scheme, and building design - so impressive!

They are still selling the generic mug.

Thanks for posting. It's nice to see so many good reports for SSR. I have heard similar comments about Hard Rock from friends who stayed there. DH and I said next time we stay at DVC we want to spend more time at the resort. There is so much to do and see. That's one of the nice things about owning DVC. We will have many opportunities to return! Annmarie

I don't get concerned about the negative comments on SSR. These are from folks who haven't figured it out yet. It truly is a town onto itself...very, very relaxing! You should see it at Christmas ;)
