Just got back from a really short trip to do the Food & Wine Fest. Stayed at OKW in a studio - our 1st stay in less than a 1 BDRM, but it was just DH and I, and I knew we wouldn't cook.
What a great trip!! Never have been in the Fall before - weather was mild, crowds were lighter than summer - all in all a wonderful experience.
Some details. We got in about 6 PM and got assigned Room 5010. First floor, building all the way at the end of OKW - backs onto Buena Vista Drive. Avoid this room! Talk about noisy. It sounded like your bed was in the middle of the road. Traffic is busy on that street and you could hear cars both thru the front window and the terrace door. When a vehicle with a siren went by the first time, I jumped a foot! And they went by frequently. By 9 PM I decided that sleep would have to be impossible in that room and called the front desk. They were so sweet!! The CM said she woud try and within 35 or 40 minutes she called and had another room available for us. This room was wonderful - 2nd floor, Bldg 31, nice and peaceful.
Food & Wine Fest was awesome. Truly Disney for grownups. We grazed the booths, did several of the free seminars, saw 2 different concerts and truly enjoyed ourselves. Can you do it in 1 day? No way - you'd probably make yourself sick. 2 days - probably, if you didn't do ANY other activities. We took 2 full days and with seminars added (we did 4 each day - very interesting and fun), did not sample all the booths. And we shared almost every sample! Three days would have been better. If you can get away this is a perfect event to attend with your spouse.
All in all, trip was magical. Lots of "Welcome Homes" at OKW, transportation was good, crowds were busy but lower than we're used to and weather was excellent.
