We just returned from a 5 night stay at POR. We stayed in building 15 in Alligator Bayou, room 1525, 1st floor. The room was pretty worn, but I didn't say anything for fear of being banished to no man's land (i.e. the back of the resort), but in retrospect, we would have been okay because we really didn't make much use of the resort's facilities.
There was pure white in the rug behind the dresser and in corners of the room, thick with dust. The latch on the door was loose, the switch plate on the bathroom light switch was broken (there was a big chunk missing out of the lower corner, I scratched myself on it the first time from just sliding my hand up the wall to turn it on, we learned to actually use the switch itself afterwards), The ledge in the bathtub that is made from tile was cracked and warped, there were chips in the tub, some mildew in the grout (not that bad), chipped paint, chipped furniture and the AC was a nightmare, very loud and rattly. The bed frames have wooden posts sticking out and you need to watch where you're walking, or else you'll take out a knee (ouch!). That's not really a problem, just an FYI. Also, you will not want this room if you are a late riser, the housekeeping supply closet is right there and it's loud in the morning!!!
The grounds themselves were very nice and well kept. We took the boat to Dowtown Disney one day and it was very nice and relaxing. We fed the ducks (and fish) while we waited. We did not use the pools unfortunately.
We only ate at the food court once, it was to get pizzas at 11 PM on Saturday night and they were closing down and shooing us out basically. We also grabbed some water and fruit one other time. I was dismayed to learn that they no longer have pralines! I was looking forward to trying them...
We ate breakfast at Boatwrights one morning. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table even though the place was virtually empty(?). I had the sweet potato pancakes and my boyfriend just had a bagel. The pancakes were good, they were sweet enough to not need syrup, but a little dry without it. The coffee and juice were good.
We went to the River Roost Lounge on Saturday night to watch the end of the World Series
. Bob Jackson was playing, and all I can say is, wow does that guy have energy! Our waiter was kind of surly though, but I think it's because the place was packed between everyone there for the game and for Bob, so he was quite busy.
I can't comment on bus service, we did not use the buses once, a first for us! However, we did go to use the bus to go to the Halloween Party on Friday night and there were about 75 people (no exaggeration) waiting so we turned around and drove. We rented a convertible so I think that's why we drove so much, it was so much fun!
All in all, we wouldn't stay at POR again. I prefer the deluxes, he prefers the All Stars (go figure). I'll be at the Dolphin with my family in December and can't wait to see it!
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.
