Just back from Poly...

That's terrible for such an expensive resort. I was at the music resort and the staff were outstanding. The room and grounds were beautiful. I would expect a deluxe to be worth the huge price tag. I will add that last year at the boardwalk housekeeping did a poor job.

We are staying at the Poly in December in a MK view room. As we've never stayed in the POly before can you tell me which building these rooms are in? Is there a better building to request than others?

It really should not be a guests job to determine which rooms have more wear and tear than the others. If I wanted to stay at the Poly, I would book a room (maybe request a location for whatever your personal reason may be) and if the room was in an unacceptable condition, I would ask to be moved immediately.

I'm sure some hidden problems can pop up during a stay but go over the room for obvious problems before unpacking and if not satisfactory, I would request to be moved immediately. If it meant going to another resort, then that is what I would do. I'm sure they would try to accommodate you at the resort you booked but at least they would know that you are serious about your complaint.

I know the OP mentioned that they were not going to spend a lot of the time in the room, but Disney charges a lot no matter how much time you actually spend in the room itself. Peeling paint, bugs, etc. is ridiculous at any level resort. It won't be corrected if we do not demand what we pay for.

I loved our stay at Poly- but I will keep trying the different resorts each visits. Mousekeeping was not great--dirty bathroom upon check in, trash and towels unchanged, I could go on and on. We liked the location and views, but... To ask guests for that price AND bring their own Febreze is just wrong!!:scared1:

We were next door in room 1942. Our room was in very good condition and was very clean. No issues at all. Internet worked great. Our last day we went to capt cooks to use our snack credits. We had no issues buying 19 snacks. The cashier even bagged eveything up for us to take on the plane. It's funny how people can have different experiences at the same resort. I love the poly. The atmosphere is great. I will definetely stay there again someday. the poly is one of the favorite resorts on this board. I would not let one bad review keep you from staying there. You can find bad reviews on every resort. Its easy to find things to complain about if you look hard enough.

I just don't like your last sentence. I don't think the OP was looking for things to complain about! This was a real review, based on her experiences - and Disney should be ASHAMED that a so-called "deluxe" resort is not in tip-top shape!

and let's just say, we wouldn't stay there again. Very bummed as this was our first visit and I was so looking forward to the atmosphere. The atmosphere and transporation convenience were fine. The room itself and some unsatisfactory service were not.

We got in early Thursday morning, about 9 AM...room wasn't ready but that wasn't a big deal as we weren't expecting it to be ready. I was super excited to learn that I got both my room requests...first floor of the Tokelau building. We checked our bags with valet and away to Epcot we went. I got a text about 3:30 with our room # and the rest of the afternoon at Epcot was spent wondering what room 1940 would be like after ALL the months of dreaming about it. LOL Perhaps that was my mistake...

When we finally got back and went to the Tokelau building, the first thing we noticed was that the outside automatic door was stuck open (and remained that way for the rest of our stay). Not a big deal but I had hoped it would be fixed. We opened the door to our room and there was a musty odor. Again, not a huge deal as I had read reviews and packed some Febreze. The room seemed well worn, the bedspreads showed signs of frequent washing (a good thing!). The location of the room was awesome...first floor with a patio with a direct view of the quiet pool. That was nice.

We had 3 lights out in the room and we told ourselves it was no big deal, we aren't the type to make a big stink about much. The first thing that really bothered me was the bathroom. There was paint peeling everywhere and paint chips could even be found on the floor upon check in and although I cleaned them up myself - had to because they were sticking to our feet/shoes and getting tracked into the room they kept coming off the door and Mousekeeping overlooked it. The wall and ceiling tiles had stains. And there were bugs, several different varieties...ones that appeared to be centipede like in nature. Fortunatly, no bed bugs or love bugs but yucky enough. We debated on whether we should call and complain or just leave it alone since we weren't planning on being in the room too much. We were running behind for an ADR at GF so we decided to leave it alone and we stayed there for another few nights before the final straw happened.

One more annoyance before the final straw...I had placed a Garden Grocer order that was delivered on time and the front desk was holding it until we had access to our room. Once we were in our room, we had Bell Services bring it to us and they only brought one of 5 bags...they had misplaced the rest and it took them until the next morning to find them.

The final straw was that the internet jack was broken. We returned to the room late Saturday night and needed access to do our fantasy football for the week and imagine our surprise to learn that the cable connection was actually broken off in the jack, so bad that my DH (who is an IT Support Specialist) couldn't fix it. He must have spent an hour working on it and got aggrevated and then we stepped back and looked at the big picture...all of the little things wrong with the room, while little, added up to be big aggrevation. So my DH went down to the front desk to see what could be done. He came back about 20 minutes later to say that we were being moved to Fiji (I was bummed...I loved our location, just wanted a room that was clean and had everything in working order) and that bell services was on their way to assist. It being 11:30 and having three children sleeping peacefully, I knew that if we woke them and told them we were moving tonight and they got to ride on a golf cart that they would NEVER go back to sleep. I called the front desk and nicely asked that they wait until the morning and got some resistance but once I explained the dilemma, they were agreeable but let me know that bell services can't be guaranteed in the morning. I said that was fine. So my DH and I spent the rest of the night packing up our room so that we could move prior to our 7:35 AM ADR for breakfast.

We moved early the next morning and while I preferred our Tokelau location, the Fiji building had nice views of the marina and was closer to the volcano pool which excited the kids. The room was okay, no paint in the bathroom but the room was similar to Tokelau's in that it needed TLC.

To sum it up, the two longhouses I was in at the Poly certainly need renovation! We were disappointed, considering the money spent to stay at a deluxe resort. The grounds and location/convenience of the Poly are certainly what make people come back again and again...it's what brought us there in the first place. But there are two other monorail resorts and after spending some time at the GF for meals and the movies on the beach, we decided we will spend a little extra and stay there next time. In fact, we got a bounce back offer and I'd like to try to book there.

I guess as long as you know what to expect, you will be fine at the Poly, barring any unforeseen room problems like we ran into. It being our first trip, we just weren't prepared for the sad state of the rooms.

Just our two cents, from our experience...

I think u went our of your way to be "nice" re problems. They're is a limit however. Poly with the PRICE TAG needs to be top notch. Nothing is going to be perfect but they're were a lot of things that needed to be addressed. I am truly sorry for the mess. I however am not out the money u guys r. GOOD LUCK:dance3:

My mom and I got back from the Poly (stayed 10/1-10/4), we were in Tahiti 1036. Awesome theme park view, walk on the beach, and very clean. No nicks, no peeling paint, no grout issues, or anything else that have been mentioned here, so if you're looking for a nice building, you might try Tahiti!

With our room, it was actually closer to walk to TTC to get to MK or Epcot than to walk to the Ceremonial House; we drove everywhere else. A little stretch got us to the quiet pool...

We did run into issues at Captain Cooks (mainly cleanliness- tables not being wiped down even though CMs were standing around, etc.; and one of the three touch screens decided to scramble making things interesting), and had an issue with Bell Services missing some packages that we mailed.

We loved being on the water, and the trees, but with Mom's fatigue after chemo, we need something a bit more compact. We were going to stay at POFQ next year, but OH NO, we got a PIN special, so now we're off to WL!

I never said the op was looking for things to complain about. Peoples perceptions of a hotel will be different. I think overall Disney hotels including the poly get more favorable reviews than negative ones. I would never let one negative review change my mind on a resort. I don't think disney has anything to be ashamed about you can't please everybody.

Thanks for your detailed review. We're pondering Poly for our next trip. I haven't stayed there since 1989. I wonder if club level is better!

GF is amazing. You will love it.

I stayed Club level at the Poly Sep 2009 and found my room in similar condition to what the OP described. I would not stay at Poly until a complete renovation is done. I'm sorry to hear they just did one three years ago but no matter; it needs it again!

While I am glad you had a good time, it is still a shame that you had to spend so much money on a room that wasn't up to Disney's deluxe standards. Our last stay at the Poly was 8/07, which was supposed to be within a year of their last renovation. We stayed in Roratonga for our last trip and felt that the room just really needed more renovation that what it received. Our carpets were worn, the room seemed dark, and the bathroom still had "dust" in the corners and the tilework appeared faded. Additionally the "musty" smell was prevalent not only in our room, but the whole longhouse. Hopefully when they renovate the Poly again, perhaps these things can be addressed. Until then, we won't stay there either.

When the Poly was last renovated we were one of the first to stay in a newly renovated room. The renovations in Fiji were complete in September 2005. Fiji and Rapa Nui were the first to be renovated, so it has been 5 years since their last renovation. I don't know when the other longhouses were finished.

I am so sorry that your stay was that bad. It is heartbreaking to spend so much money only to be disappointed.

We are staying at the Poly in Dec because we have had two previous stays that were wonderful. I hope we luck out because I truly love the resort.:cloud9:

The POLY was once our FAVORITE resort. We just enjoyed the ambience / atmosphere, the grounds, the pool, the relaxing music throughout the walkways.

BUT...we stayed at YC one time in 2009 and have never looked back.

;) This report from the OP has made me appreciate WL even more. Don't pay as much for it, but a great resort. Although I'd like to continue to try other resorts I wonder about pushing the envelope and why mess with a good thing. Maybe we should just stick with a good thing. Now I think all other stays will be compared to the high bar that WL has set. I think too, I better not look back.

Some people like sleeping in tidy, clean rooms and some people don't care if there is trash left around, paint chipping off the doors, and lightbulbs out. The OP said she had a great time but her room was unacceptable. What exactly do you think she was looking for?

Its so sad to hear all the bad reviews. We love the Poly and finally stayed there for the first time in Nov. of 2009. We had a great location and a very clean room, but I was diasppointed with the bathroom. It looked very old, and in my opinion was in need of some "freshening up". I won't say that we'll never stay there again because of that, but I couldn't believe that for the amount it costs to stay there that EVERYTHING wasn't in tip top shape. I don't ever expect things to be perfect, but when paying that much per night, in Disney or elsewhere, I do expect it to be NEAR perfect, or at least in much better shape than it was. We still have several resorts we haven't tried yet and I do believe we won't go back to the Poly until we've tried them all. I completely thought we'd stay there and never want to stay any where else. And at first we did, but after really thinking about it we weren't as blown away as I'd hoped we'd be. WL is still our "home away from home".

To echo what others have said, I would absolutely report that manager. Even without her name, you know enough details (her hair color/length, approx. age, time she was there) to report her. Her behavior sounds repulsive, even for a McDonald's employee, let alone a WDW employee. BTW, I spent about 20 snack credits at the gift shop in the CR, and heard nary a complaint from the CM helping me. Matter of fact, she told me to stop at the news stand to buy crackers and cookies! That manager sounds like a bad apple and management (higher than her) needs to know about her.

I agree with this 100%. For us, the Poly was not all that I thought it would be. It was run down and worn out. The grounds were beautiful but we never went in the volcano pool because there was no place to sit, etc. There was nothing really special about the resort. After we got home, we talked about it and decided that it was really kind of a let down. We basically paid for location. When we stayed at CBR, everything was just better, the food court, the CMs, mousekeeping, the pools, etc. The monorail at the Poly was great but the bus service to HS and DTD was terrible. We are going to try Pop in 2012 because we need 2 connecting rooms because we are bringing 4 teenage girls, but I am guessing the moderates will be where we stay after that.
