Just back from Poly and Concierge experience

I am so bummed out about the water bottles. IMHO that was a major reason to do concierge...
I loved the ability to bring water bottles back to our room. I am a non soda drinker. water only & FL water is so distasteful I have to have water bottles.

I saw on another post this is resort wide,,

is this true?

cause if is not, will switch resorts tmrw. and go where they provide water bottles.

at $3.00 a bottle, so worth it to do concierge.

which really bothers me that water is more expensive than a soda

Sadly this is another case of the abuse of some ruins it for others. There literally were people who would go to the lounge and get enough water in bottles to fill a large cooler. Disney being the nonconfrontational people they are rather than stop the abusers just changed the policy.

This will happen to other situations if abuses continues.

I think it IS at all the deluxes...but you might check w/ RPC at GF, because that one has more offerings than all of the others. They'd be the one who would still offer them, if anyone is.

At the Yacht/ Beach club concierge last Nov (my stay) there were not plastic water bottles, just the Vittel to pour while you are in the lounge (and you wouldn't want to take the glass bottle with you into the parks, I wouldn't think). :wizard:

Why on earth would anyone behave like this?

they send up 2 whole bannana's and a knife for you to slice' em yourself and not even a bowel to put them in

Don't do it...don't do it...there's already been a typo controversy on this thread...

Because there is a element of society today that will do anything that suits them unless someone actually stops them. They do not understand implied rules of decency or doing what is right just for the sake of being courteous. Since Disney is not into the direct approach of enforcement they take the passive way of eliminating the problem. The rules never apply to this type of person. They were written for someone else. If people will ignore written rules, they are certainally going to ignore the implied ones.

Same thing happens with the donuts. I have seen people literally wait for the CM to put them out, only to take at least a dozen to their room.

I am sure some would argue no one told them they could not fill their cooler. And gee, the cost to stay concierge is so expensive they feel entitled to carry off as much as they can.

I agree with you, why would anyone act that way, but I have heard all their excuses.

The bottled water thing is resort wide. Disfreek: Congratulations! This was one of the main things that irritated me about the Poly. They NEVER contacted me and didn't return calls. E-mails ended up being the only line of communication with them and then when we arrived they had not updated things. This was very disappointing. :sad2:

We stayed Poly concierge last August and will again this year. The bottled water policy last year didn't bother me. We stopped at Walmart and bought a case for $3.00 and put them in the refrigerator in the room.
I did find out since last summer they cut out some breakfast offerings. The mini blueberry muffins, english muffins and boxed cereal all have been stopped. The muffins were the only thing my 10 DD would eat!

We are splitting our stay this year bewtween the YC & Poly. Just thinking if we should do more nights at the YC instead of the Poly. We never stayed at YC so I'm up in the air about this. :confused3

So now the boxed cereals are gone?!?!? They must have cereal served in bulk......right??? This is very baaaaaad. We were so counting on the boxed cereal for my DS(5) who has severe food allergies and I can't give him anything from bulk :sad2:

We are seriously considering dropping our GVC and picking up the dining plan. It would be about the same cost for a 6 night stay--3A2C.

Please keep us updated on any other changes...good and bad :teeth:

I've heard that the Poly no longer gives out the water because of waste. Some people took advantage and would stock up on them and keep them in their rooms and when they checked out and housekeeping came in, lo and behold, water bottles. I was lucky during our last stay because it was then that I was told they would no longer be putting them out. Matter of fact, I was told then that Poly was one of the only Disney resorts left that put out water bottles.

Yes, the cereal is served in bulk. They had cheerios, fruit loops, special K and I think one other brand. They are served in containers that you just place your bowl under. As for the water, they had water in glass containers and the CMs will give you as many bottles as you wish. Obviously, you would not take it to the park. Yes, this is done resort wide. We had friends staying at the WL concierge during the same week and they experienced the same issue with the water.

However, I was surprised by the offerings at the WL. We have never stayed there at that level and was impressed by their offerings. I prefer the lounge at the Poly but thought the WL did a great job at the concierge level and the price is substantially less than the Poly. Overall I like the Poly for their location and pool but would possibly consider the WL in the future.

As for celebrating a special occasion, maybe I was wrong to expect anything at all. But when you've been there for the last ten years, I guess you just anticipate it occuring again. Our main reasons for continuing with the Poly through the years has been the CMs. They always go out of their way to make your stay special. I too, did receive a phone call from them a week prior to our stay to make sure that all of our needs would be met. I did discuss my son's birthday and they responded with excitment and asked when we would like to celebrate this special day for him. I am not discounting the Poly again for a vacation, because my children love their pool and the easy access to Magic Kingdom. However, I will think twice about spending the extra $100 plus a day.

That's disappointing to hear. I've stayed PolyC two or three times and always experienced what you've experienced in the past. That great service is why I want to go back, but after you posted this disappointing news, I'll stick with BC.

I would definitely contact them b/c PolyC is one of the top two Concierges on property (IMO) and I hope they keep that distinction!

During our last stay at the Poly I saw guests come to the lounge with grocery bags and fill them up with food!! Kids going to the area where they had cookies and cereal and piling up as high as they could and just run away to their rooms. I think this is one of the major reasons why they have cut back on the portions.

Now THAT is just terrible and I can understand that the staff needs to make some changes. But it's so sad that these few will ruin it for us all. I hope the Poly can work around that issue and bring back the old PolyC!

This reminds me of an incident where I was waiting for a parking space w/ my blinker on. I was the next car behind the car pulling out. Well, lo and behold, once the car backed out, another car whizzed around and tried to pull in the space to get in before me. I asked parking security after finding another space if there were any laws against it, as it seems like the normal protocal is to let the person there first w/ the blinker in pull in, but he said,"The only laws violated were the laws of common decency."
Perhaps those that are more non-self respecting aren't deterred because unwritten laws don't bother them so much. I really wish those coming to concierge w/ the big coolers and bags would be stopped, however, since it seems they are ignoring the more implied limitations. Maybe adding some concierge guidelines might help? Like the new mug rules printed on the mugs? (it may not change much, but it could help...)

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, I'm just really disappointed to hear about this kind of behavior, and that it caused major changes for other concierge guests. It sounds like these kinds of things must have been happening a lot to make such cut-backs, considering the price is quite high already.

During our last stay at the Poly I saw guests come to the lounge with grocery bags and fill them up with food!!

Oh, please say no. Where do people learn this kind of behavior? Yah, it is sad that a few bad dogs are ruining it.

Not only did people bring the bag with them to get their food but I saw this same woman every morning who showed up at breakfast with nothing but her robe on and you knew she just got out of bed. I even saw people coming to the lounge dripping wet in their bathing suits. So much for proper attire.
I think the Poly needs to have someone there to monitor what is going on in there so that type of behavior can be stopped.
It is a real shame because it ruins it for the rest of us.

Okay, I am just trying to clarify something:
YES there are water bottles offered at Poly concierge, but they are glass, right? (If I remember correctly, this was the same thing at BC when we stayed there in 2002)

(I am just trying to decide if we should stop & get some H20 at Walgreens on our way in)

:cool1: soon, very soon

Yes, they are large glass bottles and you have to ask for them. Not suitable for taking to the parks.

We have stayed concierge many times and I have never seen anyone acting like the people described here. Coolers? Grocery bags? The most I've ever seen are people walking back to their rooms with coffee and one plate of stuff. I must have missed this other stuff. The only thing that has ever annoyed me are the little kids sucking on the gummy worms and then putting them back. YUCK!!

The boxed cereal was abused too, it was carried off. Bulk cereal makes it harder to abuse. This is the very reason I get upset over this type of thing. Because someone abuses the policy your son will be the one to suffer for it, not the person that did the abuse.

Oh, please say no. Where do people learn this kind of behavior? Yah, it is sad that a few bad dogs are ruining it.

Because some do not think rules, whether written or implied, apply to them. They will take anything they can get away with it. Their excuse is, if Disney did not want me to do this, they would stop me. They will not do it because it's the right thing to do.

In the case of the concierge abuses, you have seen the changes, I think mug abuses increase total food costs regardless of what others believe, pool abuses result in pools being fenced like SAB.
