Just back from Poly - a LOUD STORY!!

I've posted this story before, but still haven't gotten over it, I guess. In Sept. 2001 we splurged on two nights at the GF. Our room overlooked the "quiet pool". There was a party in the pool until 1 am, and I mean they were literally screaming at each other the whole time. Finally, it got quiet, and then the same group started up in the adjoining room! It sounded like about six adults, speaking Spanish and probably drunk. At about 1:30, they tried to walk in our room through the adjoining door, which was unlocked! I stopped them, banging on the door and yelling "what are you doing?" It got quiet for a little while, then started up again, finally I called security. I didn't ask if they were checking out the next day, just asked that we be moved. So much for our luxury stay at the GF. Never had any problems at any of the DVC resorts. And I always check the lock on adjoining doors now!

That's terrible! I would have called Floridas Dept of Fish, Game & Wildlife and made a complaint!

I caught two kids spitting and throwing papers into the manatee pool at Epcot one time and put the fear of God into them, basically told them that manatees were endangered species and that molesting a manatee in the State of Florida was a felony, and I'd make sure they'd do jail time where they'd be somebodies girlfriend real quick, and then made a reference to something that I won't even repeat here about prison life--they were out that door so fast I could feel the whoosh of the wind... hehehe

I had a similar experience at the Poly. Now, I fully expect to be able to hear kids crying the next room since kids will cry. I fully expect to hear happy kids running by my room to get to the parks. I DON'T expect, and I'm sure the original poster didn't expect, kids running up and down the hallway and screaming off the balcony. In my case, the kids were playing hockey or something in the hallway...running up and down the hall repeatedly and screaming. Whether it's 10pm or 10am, I wouldn't expect it. And, from my experience, that 10pm stuff is crap, since I called the front desk at 11pm to ask them to please tell these people not to let their kids run up and down the hall and I was told that I was more than welcome to find another room at another hotel if I wanted. That's precisely what I did. I went to GF. Was there noise there? Of course. Kids in the hall every now and then, kids playing in the next room before bed and before leaving for the parks. But, nothing like at Poly.

As a side note, I stayed at GF for my wedding and honeymoon and had a problem with a loud party in the honeymoon suite next to mine....7-8 people, drunk, the whole deal. I called the front desk and they called them. They ended up in the hallway yelling how they were "going to (expletive) 8-Trax." Around 2am, they came back, more drunk and even more obnoxious. I called again and someone from the front desk came down, listened and promptly moved us to another suite. No rude comments about finding another hotel....they simply came to see the problem and did something about it.

So, there will always be noise...some of it expected, some of it you shouldn't have to deal with and the hotel should understand and be able to handle minor issues like this. At the very least, come to your room and see the magnitude of the problem before they blow you off as a quiet-freak!

This is rather harsh, but if it was really that bad, you could call the police. Most juridictions have noise ordinance laws that do apply to hotels. Of course the noise usally has to be unreasonable and thats really subjective. Plus do you want to take a law enforcement officer away from what their doing.

My point is this. Most people don't know that the hotel is not the only one who can help. this should also be noted for security. If something is stolen from you while at WDW you may want to consider reporting this to the "real athorities". Not just the front desk.

By the way, what prompts this is an article I read about a domestic violence situation where the husband was beating upon his wife in a hotel room. The hotel was booked solid and several people made reports to the hotle operator. Of course no one thought to call the police. Not even the hotel operator. Crazy.

My inclination would have been to ask for a room move. Sorry you had to deal with this. Let's all hope we don't have this happen to us.
