Just back from OKW - re slide...

Thanks Pam. I think it will be cute. Anyone have a larger pic of that general are they are referring to?

Here is a picture of the Vero slide. I think at least this design will fit in well.

Diane, thanks for the reminder of how compact the slide at Vero is. I'm looking forward to seeing a sketch of the plans. I'm also glad to hear that they did "theme" the slide.

Thanks for the info. on the slide!! We're so excited - sounds like it'll be themed really nice.:Pinkbounc  :Pinkbounc :wave2:

Thanks for the news and all of the details! It sounds lovely...and if it looks anything like the Vero slide, we're sure to be pleased.

I think the boat to SSR for OKW guests who want to use the pool during the construction process will work out beautifully.

We're new to DVC. We'll be at SSR in June...and then won't return to til Spring...but we'll probably try to reserve a stay at OKW next so that we can check it out.

I'd love to see the pictures/sketches of the OKW slide!

I hope the boat is able to handle things. We will be down Dec 17- 24 so we should get a good look at what the final version will look like. My family And I are very excited about this. As OKW owners since 97 we think this is an awesome change. Well done Disney !

but nothing was mentioned about the pool hopping privledges, one way or the other, so I didn't want to push it.

I had to ask a lot of people, before I found out even this little, so didn't want to push to hard and find out nothing.

At any rate, the picture I saw was just a brief glimpse, and then someone else walked in, the the picture was wisked away.... So I remember quickly from the very brief glance, it had a slide going in a circular way around like vero, but I'm not sure if it is "all outside" like vero, or some inside, and some outside.

My impression, IMHO, was nice, but then again, I want a slide.

Maybe others can get tidbits when they visit, but just smile and go onto someone else if you get blank lookes and stares when you ask about the slide.

We'll have to invest in a cell phone/spy camera we can use for our "missions". ;) Thanks again for sharing what you were able to find out. The OKW folks are trained well not to divulge information -- they had lots of practice answering questions about Celebration when that was being developed -- "I know nothing!" ;)

Goldi - Another thanks for your great sleuthing work and persistance in finding something out!!! :)

As far as pool hopping I don't think the cm meant it would discontinue everywhere but just that for the inconvenience of not having a main pool OKW guests would have boat transportation to SSR to use their main pool since it is so close. We were at BWV in Oct. when they were doing Keister coaster repairs and were transported to BCV to use SAB. I don't think alot of people took advantage of using SAB while the coaster slide was down. So IMHO I don't think the SSR pool will be overcrowded.

Looking forward to more reports on the OKW slide! Hopefully something official will come out soon.

Maybe this has already been answered and a little off topic, but if they have a slide, won't they then need lifeguards? I wonder how much this will increase the low dues at OKW.

and asked my DVC salesperson what would happen to the OKW dues when we get lifeguards...

I was told the yearly dues would go up a little.

I don't know what a "Little means", but I don't think they would raise it too much initially, and maybe then would raise it later on and / or put it under another category so as to avoid the hue and cry of slide haters???

Atleast this has been the ploy of my Homeowner's assoc when they want to do something and not bring notice to it.... They wait until nobody's paying attention ;)

Goldi.

At any event, I am really happy to have the slide and look forward to it!

At the members' meeting they said $0.03 or $0.04 per point.

My kids will be happy about the slide. I hope it's tasteful and doesn't interfere with the laid-back theme.

I am so excited and my daugter is too!!

I don't recall anyone posting that an actual estimate for the dues increase was given at the meetings. One DIS'er met afterwards to get an idea of the financial impact. The $.03-$.04 figure is something that has been mentioned on these boards and is roughly what was estimated in the poll about the slide. Hopefully, it will fall into that range. We will not be paying for the slide's construction. We will be paying for the lifeguards and the on-going maintenance costs (upkeep, insurance, etc.) for the slide.

Goldi, you're right about wanting to "slip the bad news in". Maybe the delay in announcing the slide is to put some distance between this year's dues increase and the announcement that it will go up again. ;)

I do not remember who it was, but I know someone posted here that they were at the Members meeting when the slide was announced and then stayed after the meeting and spoke to someone from DVC that said the dues increase would be somewhere around 3 or 4 cents.

I agree that someone did post about speaking to someone after the meeting. However, there was no official announcement about costs during the meeting itself (to my knowledge). As has been mentioned on other threads, sometimes rumor becomes fact on the boards and I just wanted to put the $.03-$.04 cost in the "rumor" department. That is in the ballpark of what was discussed before but is not an "official" number. Heck, the majority of OKW members don't even know a slide is coming let alone what the cost will be. ;)

I looked through some of the old thread and did find WDWDaisy's did post about costs (below). I also found someone who said they had spoken to someone and construction would begin "soon" and be done for spring break -- that's why we need to hear from DVC/DVD "officially" what they have planned and what it will cost. Info here is good but is not necessarily gospel.

Here's Daisy's info

I was a the meeting yesterday and found was not that happy they are doing this. The first thing I started to think about was the cost to mantain this thing. Well after the meeting I went and talked to one of the 'Disney People' in the Finance Dept for DVC anf found out the the increase in dues should only be .03 - .04 per point. I find that this might be a little low of an est. for the cost to put lifegaurds at the main pool and the increased cost for the Liablilty Insurance. I think this will put OKW more in line with the other DVC's for dues.

Considering that the figure of 3 or 4 cents came from a DVC representative, I would think it would have a little more merit and weight than to be considered just a rumor. This figure was not the result of speculation on this discussion board, it was something that was told to a member by a DVC representative immediately following the meeting when the slide was announced.
