Hi all,
Just a mini-report for OKW and WDW lovers in general. We stayed in building 64 - our first time out of 6 times at OKW in an elevator building. I may be getting old, but the heat was a KILLER and boy did I appreciate that elevator to get to the 2nd floor! What a wimp am I?!
We loved this location... it was pretty close to the main pool and HH and we had a nice pond/golf course view - it's always so much fun to have a new place to stay at and discuss all the pro's and con's of each area. My favorite is still probably building 21 (I think that's correct) down by Miller's Road.
Anyways, the staff seemed particularly attentive and helpful. We seemed to get mousekeeping in our room at least 3 of our 7 days for extra shampoo, towels, etc. It was a little off-putting actually because we weren't expecting it and I would notice new towels or something different in the room. That was a first for us.
The main pool was closed one day due to chemical cleaning - sounds like somebody fell and cut their head open that AM so the pool was closed all day for cleaning. It was a bummer to us because we didn't know and hauled ourselves down there in the incredible heat just to have to turn around. It might have been helpful if they did a voicemail broadcast to all guests so we would have known in advance (????).... Anyways, we did go to one of the community pools and because it was so hot outside the water was so warm it felt like bathwater. The main pool was not as warm as that and was more refreshing, but still very very warm!
The parks were moderately crowded - we've seen better, seen worse. We were pretty efficient at both EPCOT and MK - getting most attractions that we wanted to see done before 11am, then an early lunch to beat the crowds, then back for a swim. The worst part of the day was leaving the parks when we usually do (around 1-2pm) and hauling it to the parking lot or bus....again, it was just so darn .....HOT! In case you hadn't heard, Orlando was experiencing record-breaking temps this past week (was 101 several times according to the car's thermometer). While I enjoy heat more than cold (can't stand to go to WDW when we can't swim and have to wear coats everywhere), the heat was a little rough. We agreed to go to DL next summer where the temps are a little more moderate (plus we do love DL as well).
I look forward to coming back, but it may be a while - BLT and GCV call us for our next few trips, at least at this point. Funny that we don't own at the OKW but have stayed there more than any resort at WDW ever!
