Hi everyone,
We are just back from the May 18th 7-day Eastern cruise. I received so much helpful information from these boards that I thought I would post my thoughts and hope they help someone else.

This was our first cruise ever, and we didn't bring our 3 DD's this time. It was just DH and myself. We really loved this cruise! We liked it so much we booked a cruise for next year while we were still on board :) (We will bring the kids next time).

The service was excellent! Every crew member we encountered was friendly, helpful, and very courteous. Our servers, Jeevan and Rowan, were the best. Rowan got to know what we liked to drink and brought them out without us even having to ask. Jeevan was very helpful, offering advice on what to order and what to stay away from. We had a 10 year old boy at our table and Jeevan would give him little brain teasers each night for him to solve. They were both just outstanding.

The ship is beautiful. When we were at each port there was a carnival ship docked along side the Magic. The Carnival ships are a lot bigger, but they are big, white, ugly ships. The design of the Magic is much classier and colorful. The inside of the ship is spotless. I loved the cutouts of the characters in the banisters of the stairs in the atrium.

The restaurants are great. Not necessarily the food, but the atmosphere of each restaurant. We had the late seating and our rotation was LAPLAPL. I wish we had dined in Animator's Palate 3 times because that one is so adorable! Even on the night when they don't do the show, it is so whimsical. I like the fact that you sit with other people. You meet some neat people that way. We had a single mom with her 10 year old son, and another couple at our table. The mom and son were great fun to talk to, but they did more of the kids activities, so we only saw them at dinner. We became great friends with the other couple, though, and we hung out together many times. There was a couple in our section sitting alone, who hadn't been assigned to sit with anyone and we felt really sorry for them.

The shows are wonderful! Hercules had me rolling; I thought it was hilarious. But the best was Disney Dreams! That one can't be missed. It was so magical. I must confess that I didn't make it to Morty the Magnificent, as I had a conflicting spa appointment. But DH went and he said it was quite good. The late night entertainment was good too. There was a ventriloquist and a juggler who are pretty funny, but the best was a comedian named Rich Purpura. He was so hilarious! 80's night was very fun as well.

Castaway Cay is so wonderful. We spent a lot of time on Serenity Bay, but I have to say the family beach is much prettier. We had prepurchased the package with the snorkeling, the floats and the bikes, but we did not have enough time to do everything. We swam and laid out a while, had lunch at the BBQ (very good, by the way) and rode the bikes. We didn't have enough time to snorkel or use the floats. Big waste of money. Next time we won't do a package in advance for Castaway Cay.

We had excursions on St. Maarten and St. Thomas. St. Maarten we did the Under 2 Flags tour. It's a great way to see the island, but unfortunately, there is not much to see on the island. There are some places that are green and pretty, but many more that are brown and not-so-pretty. I think Disney should choose a different island for that day. St. Thomas is beautiful, though! Our excursion for that day was the Atlantis submarine. It was really interesting to be underwater like that and see all the coral and the fish. I did hear a lot of people complaining about being claustrophobic in there. The best part was the ferry boat out there. We got soaked and it was going really fast. It was great on a hot day. Next time I think I will do a catamaran excursion--it looked so fun!

Okay, I wasn't fond of the Spa. I got a week pass to the Tropical rainforest and also had a facial done. The Rainforest isn't something you would want to do every day. I only did it once. One of the steam rooms didn't even work. The aromatherapy smelled great though. It was a waste of money for me. I would maybe do it once but not buy the pass. The facial was pretty lame. I have had a few facials in my day and this one was not worth the money. If you have had a facial before, you know that normally, they try to make it a really relaxing experience. The bed is nice and warm, the lights are dimmed, and the goop they spread on your face is warmed. The Vista spa was just the opposite. The extremely bright lights were glaring at me the whole time. The bed was cold, the room was cold, and the goop they put on me was cold. I couldn't relax because I was cold. Also, NO BLACKHEAD EXTRACTION. Basically, everything they did, I could have done at home. Then they try to pedal their beauty products to you afterward. I was not satisfied.

I think there could have been more organized activities for adults. I loved the Art of Entertaining courses. There were two a day on the at sea days. I loved the napkin folding class, the cake decorating class, and the cooking classes. Basically all of them! There were a couple of times I was a little bored. I guess I could have sat out on the deck or something and a few times I did. But more activites for the adults would be nice.

We didn't have problems with other people's kids. Most seemed well behaved. When we went to the movie one afternoon, there was a child who would not stop kicking my chair, and that was annoying. His feet were propped on top of the back of my chair, which is annoying enough, but he kept bouncing his feet up and down. The theater was crowded so I couldn't move to another seat. I turned around and asked him to please stop, wearing a smile, and being very friendly. I know kids don't always think about how what they are doing affects others, so I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. But he still wouldn't stop. And the lame thing is that his mom was right there. She heard me ask him to stop. And I can say that if my child had their feet up on someone's chair I would have put a stop to that immediately. But that was the only time we had a problem with kids.

That's about all I can think of. The cruise is wonderful and I recommend it to everyone. I would not do a 3 or 4 day because I think that would be way too short. The 7-day is perfect. If anyone has any questions, please ask! I love to talk about my cruise! :)

Thanks for listening,
Bonnie

Thank you for the report. It reminded me of how wonderful it was last year when we went. I can hardly wait, we leave to go on the Western cruise in just 13 days!

Going on Magic 6/1 w/family of 6. Do you remember what movies were showing? Your info. has been helpful, this is our 1st time cruising.

Miketiuf,
Movies were The Rookie, Harry Potter, Monsters, Inc., Snow Dogs, Tomb Raider, Return to Neverland, Big Trouble, and The Count of Monte Cristo. They show 2 or 3 each day. I wanted to see several of these, but it's hard to fit them in because they are always showing while something else is going on. I hope you enjoy your cruise!

We also leave on the Magic June 1st cruise for the first time.

Did you go to Palos for dinner, brunch or high tea? How was doing the ressie scramble?

How did you get to the Port---limo, drive yourself or Disney transfer bus?

Thank you for your comments.

Hi Bonnie, Enjoyed your trip report, glad you hd a good time! Do you recommend those excursionsfor a 7 and 9 yr old. That is the only part of our trip that we are undecided about. Thanks Maryann

LUVTOGO: I would recommend the Atlantis Submarine for your kids. All the kids on our voyage really seemed to like it. I don't recommend the Under 2 Flags tour for kids, it's kind of boring for them.

TX Shelly: We went to Palo's for brunch. The food was pretty good. There is a buffet and you also order a main dish off the menu. The first glass of champagne is free, but if you get another one they will charge you. DH said he the fish he ate at the brunch was what made him sick for 2 days. :(

We had dinner reservations here, but we didn't end up going because it conflicted with something else we didn't want to miss. The reservations were not hard to get, and they post what they have left available before you get in line. High Tea reservations are difficult though, because they only have 15 slots for each at-sea day. We were not able to get in. The reservations scramble is not as crazy as we thought it would be. We went straight over as soon as we were on the ship and everything but the tea was available. Spa appointments were easy to get as well.

As for getting to the port, we had a rental car. We stayed one night at the Dolphin before the cruise and wanted to go exploring around WDW. We also had like 7 hours before our flight home at the end of the cruise, so the rental car was good for doing more exploring at WDW that day, so we didn't have to wait all day at the airport. But we did pay the weekly rate just to use it for two days. It wasn't that much more than the DCL busses, but we had to pay $8 a day to park it at the cruise terminal. Next time we will not do it this way, we will just take the DCL busses. HTH!

Cruised on the wonder MAy 12th and I wanted to second your comments concerning the facial.. I was very disappointed in it and for all the reasons you mentioned. My husband was also disappointed with the alpha capsule. Other than our spa experience the cruise was WONDERFUL! Can't wait to do the 7 day.

Lavne: The Captain's Welcome party and dessert buffet are still on Sunday. I'm not sure what you are looking for when booking Palo's. Did you WANT to be there on Formal night? Thursday was lobster night, if you don't want to miss the lobster I wouldn't choose that night. For me, I wanted to do Palo's on a night I was assigned to the restaurant we would be dining at for 3 nights. By this I mean, we first looked at our dining assignment, which was LAPLAPL. We had Lumiere's 3 nights, so wanted to choose one of those nights for Palo's so that we would still get to dine in each restaurant twice. I would recommend doing that, so your DSs can still dine in each restaurant twice and maybe they can eat in the kids clubs that night or if you want to spend dinnertime with them, take them to get something from Plutos and you won't have to eat twice :) Hope this helps.
Bonnie

Thanks for the info. I didn't especially want to do Palo's on formal night, but I was using old info that showed Thursday as the Master Chef's menu, and that looked least appealing to me. DH and DSs are looking forward to lobster night, so I wanted to confirm that was now on Thursday. I'll definitely have to revise my plans and figure out where Palo's fits in best for us!

We are also back from may 18th cruise and our dinnermates went to Palo on Thursday night. Jeevan let us know that you can order any food from the main restaurants while at Palo and they did have the Lobster served on Thursday night.

Glad you had a great trip! Just wanted to mention, my husband and I cruised the Magic in Oct. 01 for our 11th anniversary. We were assigned a table for 4. We weren't thrilled about that. We couldn't decide if we should sit beside each other (but facing a stranger) or across from each other (but beside a stranger). We decided to sit across from each other.

But there was no other couple, so we had our own table. We loved it! It was very romantic. So being at a table alone isn't all bad.

I am looking forward to Palo, but I was wondering how do I find out my dining rotation assignment first and still have time to get in line for signing up for Palo?
Also, when were your cabins ready?
(Yes, I'm a first time cruiser.:) )

Hi! We are going in March 2003. We have a cat 9 room, 2543. We are frist time cruiser. Also is there really that much extra stuff you have to pay for, Dinners ect...

thanks sharon:D :bounce:

German: Were you in the early seating or the late seating? If you had the late seating and Jeevan was your server, you must have been in the same section as us!

Laurie: You find out your dining rotation when you get your Key to the World card at check in. Check in is the very first thing you do at the terminal and then you have that whole long line to wait in to board the ship. On your KTTW card you will see which table number you have and your dining rotation will be a bunch of letters. Ours was LAPLAPL (Lumiere's, Animator's Palate, Parrot Cay, etc.) Our cabins were available as soon as we boarded the ship. We did not go straight there though, we did our reservations first thing.

ReneeQ: I never thought about it that way, I guess it would be romantic :) We just thought it was nice to have friends to talk to each night.

Sharon: We had a category 9 also, and thought it was fine for the two of us. For our next cruise, when we take our 3 DD's, we had to book a category 4, which made it a LOT more expensive. I think our family could be fine in a category 9, since the youngest is an infant, but they wouldn't let us. We ended up spending about $850 on board, and that included shore excursions on each island, spa treatments, 2-3 drinks (each) a day, Palo's brunch ($10 per person) and a few souvenirs. If you were trying not to spend much money, you could totally do it, if the above items are not important. Oh, that amount is not including the tips. We paid for the tips in cash and put them in the envelopes right at the beginning so we knew we wouldn't touch it.

MRS SCOOBY

You can know what's your dinning rotation before boarding the cruise.
Just look at your 'Stateroom Key' and you'll see something like LAPLAPL
That's your rotation and means:

L=Lumiere's
A=Animator's Palette
P=Parrot Cay

Anyway, I read a lot of the 'reservation commando operation' and it's not that bad!! I think specially in 7 day cruises.

I went to lunch at Topsiders and after that headed to Palo to make my reservation with NO LINE at all and the only day 100% booked was Sunday night.

Relax and enjoy your cruise!!!!

Yes! We must have been in the same section since we had Jeevan and Rowan, we were in late seating and I know who you are talking about! This couple that was seating alone didn't look that they were having too much fun.

Yesterday I was looking at my videos from Animators (Show Night), Character Breakfast and Lumiere's it's a small world night to see if I can find out where were you!

We were in a table of four (table #69) with Rachel and Jacob from Gainsville, FL. The first night I felt a sorry for the since they got stucked with too no English speaking persons for 7 days but by the end of dinner we were talking so much (something that happens every day) that Jeevan always had to interrupt to tells us about the menu.
We also end up hanging around with them after dinner and at Castaway Cay and we made friends!! (We missed them when they went to Palo!)

Having them in our table was a blessing and we felt very lucky since we had a bad experience in our first breakfast at Lumiere's since a different couple was sitted next to us and thet commented something like 'oh! this is cruise tradition we better go to Topsiders tomorrow so we don't have to share our table' I don't know if they thought we didn't speak English but that was rude (They were also in late seating, family of four (not American I'll say) and most of the times their kids didn't join them. If you are there. Thank You Guys!)

I must say that we met many nice people onboard, but well, as Prince said: 'They come in every color, nationality and size' =)

Thanks Bbgrizzle and gdimanzo !
I was anxious about getting the seating for Palo for two reasons. One, we are trying out this cruise thing with the four night Wonder-don't have as many dinners to try out the restaurants. Two, because while I'm making my spa ressies I have to send my DH to make the Palo res. (Too many decisions and he tends to crack under pressure ;) )
I can relax now. Thanks. These boards are great for getting prepared for this experience. I feel sorry for first timers who don't know about them.

Laurie:)
