Hey all, just got back home from a 4 nighter in Hotel New York, must say we had a great time there and it really opens your eyes to the quality that some companies have just lost over the years, Disneyland Paris has still got it, and to be honest, without travelling to America I don't think anything could beat it for experience and customer service.
The Pros -
Hotel New York is lovely, the room was really clean and very welcoming, staff were brilliant and even though my french is very poor, they were fine speaking duff french with me (entertaining me I am sure) or speaking english, each staff encounter was thorough and to the point, just enough interaction, not too much.
Breakfast was great, it was a nice surprise to get a few hot items and the quality was again over and above what we get in the UK
The Disneyland and Studios Parks were amazing, very clean, extremely well themed and run. Something which I find in the UK when it comes to the likes of Alton Towers etc if that they are short on staff, which ends up in customers waiting all sorts of silly times, DLP had none of this, there was a cast member for everything, every person was catered for and every ride was run at its best to make sure things happened without you getting too bored, together with the 10 out of 10 theming, an hour in a queue was tolerable down to the theming being so well thought out.
Characters were a plenty during our stay, every morning after breakfast we had Chip and Dale, Mickey or Minnie greeting us and others, the wait times to see them for a photo were under five minutes every morning, which was great for my litte ones. Throughout the park there were various characters but obviously they did get a little busy, still manageable though.
The rides, our favourite had to be the Tower of Terror, what an amazing experience. The first time I took my little boy on there I didn't realise there were handles and I had to hold onto him, I was unsupported throughout and was absolutely bricking it after the first drop!! Second best had to be Thunder Mountain, a superb ride for all ages, not too harsh, not too soft, my 3 year old loved it.
Something else I need to thank DLP for is their service when my 1 year old fell over, the cut her ear and when my wife took her to the guest services, she was seen by a doctor and bandaged within 10 minutes, then driven by a Disney driver to a hospital, given a Minnie soft toy and a certificate, luckily she was ok and needed nothing more than a special plaster, but they were driven back to the park, given 4 VIP passes to rides, and the next day the Hotel New York duty manager phoned us and gave us late check out for free to compensate for the time we were out of the park which was an amazing thing, they really helped us and I thank them majorly for this, big thumbs up DLP!
The Cons -
The pros greatly outweighed the cons, but there were a couple, some which could not be helped.
Pizza Planet, this is such a shame, with the new Toy Story area in the Studios park I would think this would be such a popular venue. While not expensive, the food was below par, the restaurant was quite dirty and run down, and the play area was a bit dangerous for little ones, it looks like they are just letting this run its course before closing and reopening a new one, not sure?
Thunder and Lightning, this literally shut the park down!! For safety reasons basically everything stopped working, the information could have been a little better when we were hanging about waiting for rides to open up again, some cast members just dismissed me and moved me on even when rides were about to open, but again it is hard to communicate things through to all I suppose.
Queues! - Wow, how busy can this place get!! - So many people throughout the park, queue times were up to an hour for Thunder Mountain and Tower of Terror, Crushs coaster was 45 minutes but seemed to run quicker, the Parachute Drop was a no go down to massive queues. I think next time we will go when it is really quiet, because we did miss out on a few things, again not too much to stop the fun we were having, but still it was quite hard walking through all the people and crowds!! I will say though, DLP did all they could to keep the queues down, fast track was very useful, 3 trains on thunder mountain and general ride management was great. During our stay the Hollywood TOT had one lift break, space mountain broke down for a few hours and Autopia took ages to open after the storm.
Queue Jumping, this must be a massive problem for the staff, with so many different language barriers etc, so many people try it on when it comes to the queues, trying to get through fast track after coming up with the most bizarre of excuses, but because I am a big guy, not many people pushed in front of me!
------
Summarise, we loved the restaurant (can't remember the name) with the rat from ratatouille, while some of it was a bit exotic for our British tastes, what we did like was very good and high quality. We travelled from Bristol to CDG then using the TGV to Marne le Vallee. I would strongly suggest using the VEA shuttle if you have lots of cases and kids, it was very hard negotiating the stairs, trolleys and platform with little ones, plus it was expensive, 81 euros for 3 adults on the TGV!! Flying from CDG to Bristol, an experience, the worst departure lounge in the world! You go through a passport control after check in and arrive at some duty free stores, then after finding security there are no toilets in the departure lounge, no shops, just dodgy vending machines, we had to go out of the lounge and through security twice taking our kids to the toilet.
Disneyland was magical and brilliant, a holiday of a lifetime, Merci!
