DW, DD (8), her friend, and I spent a fabulous weekend at HHI. The only thing that could have been a little better was the weather. This was our second trip and the experience just keeps getting better and better.

We got in Friday night around 7:30 and had dinner at Hilton Head Brewing Co. Not bad - they do junk food really well. Their wings are very good. It's definitely not the place to go if you want to eat heart healthy, which I need to. They are also lacking when they try to go upscale. DW ordered their red snapper in an herbed cream sauce. It was pretty much inedible. The good news is, they had no problem removing it from the bill. DVC members get 10% off here, including the bar bill.

We stayed in a studio (1124) overlooking the marsh and marina inlet. It's a nice view, especially on a moonlit night. The room was clean, but not up to Disney standards. There was popcorn in the sofa bed when I pulled it out. In fact, when I stripped the bed at checkout, just to make sure the sheets were washed, I found more popcorn between the bottom sheet and the mattress pad. On the upside, we were surprised to find a full sized coffee maker, instead of the usual four-cup unit.

We spent most of our time by the big dipper. On Saturday morning they didn't open the slide until almost 11:30. That was kind of a letdown, but they needed to sand down some rough edges. It was worth the wait; let me tell that bad boy was fast! Almost as fast as Keister Koaster at BW.

The kids made butterfly houses that day, which they thought was fun. We also saw part of B'Lou Crab's show, which we all enjoyed. After that it was putt-putt golf at Pirate's Island down the street. In between we had dinner at The Old Oyster Factory. I reviewed it in another post. In short, it was teriffic!

Today we hung out the pool again. The weather was considerably warmer, and the crowd was light - lots of folks heading home. The lifeguards played some games with the kids, both big and little. DD and her friend did the Gyotaku just before we left. Nothing beats a souvenir that you make yourself. I'm sure the kids will keep those a long time.

Has anyone else noticed the dearth of HHI merchandise, especially clothing, in the Mercantile? I had hoped to get the girls matching t-shirts, but they had nothing in kids' sizes. Most of the apparel is WDW/100 Years of Magic. No big deal, and it certainly didn't take away from the experience. We'll be going back. Now if we could just afford an add-on there...

Regarding merchandise at the HH store, I noticed the same lack at VB last month. When I asked, I was told that the local DVC stores were no longer able to order on their own as merchandise ordering and selection were now being centrally planned from Orlando. This may have impacted what's at HH store also.
