We just returned from our first DVC trip. HHI resort was beautiful and we had a great time. We stayed in a 1 bedroom. I don't know if we could ever stay in a hotel room again. We went to a lot of the programs offered by the resort. My boys are 9 and 5 and loved it.

If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them.

We're going at the end of April and my children will be the same age as yours are now. What activities did they enjoy? Are there any that they didn't enjoy?

My boys loved "kids night out" which was a pizza party and outing to the movies to see Monsters Inc. They loved both the marsh tour and the unbirthday party. They went twice to the campfires, and loved the pirates treasure hunt. They also enjoyed meeting Shadow during "Shadow's Tales" and loved the Dolphin Tour. My little guy seemed to be getting bored during the Dolphin Tour, but says now that it was one of his favorite events, so who knows. We played mini golf right down the road at a pirate themed place and that was I think their favorite night. They also loved the beach and the pools.

Oops, I forgot to mention. The only things they were not interested in were the fish painting and the pumpkin patch that they were offering.

We are going the 2nd week in April, could not get a 1 bedroom-ended up with a 2 bedroom.

We will be at HH for the 1st time for Spring Break. We will be there from 4/7-4/12. We have 2 DD's ages 9 and 4. I think that they will love the events available.

What are the age requirements for the kids night out?

Anyone else going to be in HH at that time?

Thanks!
Sharon :)

I think the age range was 5-12 for the kids night out and the marsh tour. Most of the other events were 3-12.

On the way to work today, DH & I started talking about the possibility of HH for Thanksgiving next yr. DSs are out of school for the entire week of Thanksgiving and we thought it would be a nice break from the traditional, somewhat-stressful family turkeyathon. Can we expect nice weather? Do you think HH will be crowded? It is one of our home resorts, so we can book at 11 mos.

Sneaky3 asked about HHI in January. This coming January will be our 4th January trip there. Last year we got married there, so we had a lot to do. ;)

The true answer is what you like to do and how the weather turns out. Our first January we went was in 1999 and the weather was in the high 60's to low 70's. I played golf three out of five days. Good thing about that is that it is cheap because it is the off season. You can expect to pay around $30 for 18 holes with cart if you use one of the coupons from many of the free golf books available on the island and play after noontime. We were able to walk the beach and pick up shells during the day. Spot dolphins and tour the island. Some of the resturants are closed, but the better ones are still open. Many have happy hour specials to entice the crowds (but there are not many crowds). There's shopping at the outlet center and two civil war forts which would not take much time but are interesting. DVC has lots of activities too, and the hot tub is wonderful in January. If you were to get bored, you could take a daytrip to Savannah or to Charleston which are both very interesting cities. The 8th Air Force museum in Savannah is great for plane or war buffs.

In 2000 it snowed on us, but we still did most of the other activities, minus the golf. The hot tub was wonderful in the snow.We were also there for Superbowl weekend and DVC had snacks and drinks in Big Murgy's den.

2001 brought the warm weather back and with it the golf and walks on the beach. We got married on the DVC Beach House pier at sunset, nice place for a wedding. Getting the paperwork done meant two side trips to Beaufort, which is a great town to visit. It's where part of Prince of Tides was filmed. We hit a lot of different resturants that year and enjoyed them all.

2002 we will be spending the last two weeks of January theree, except we will go to Charleston on our anniversary weekend and then back to DVC for the second week. We are looking forward to that. Even if it is cold, it is great to sit out on the porch and drink hot chocolate and enjoy the peace and quiet. Not many kids around, and not that many activities for them, but they still have some. I have a list of the January activities posted on my DVC HHI website. Check it out.

Look us up if you are going to be there.

Thank you Tommy. I will be at HH from January 3-7, 2002. Since my shift at work changes so I was able to work it out. I have never been there but I wanted to take a side trip while I was there so that my 5 year old could see snow and my hubby too. But also I really want to relax. I was pretty impressed to see that I was able to get a two bedroom there in such a short. I was also impressed that for 4 nights which includes a Friday and Saturday that I only used 91 points. Thank you for your site I will be looking at it............
