Just Back From Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos! Loved it!!

Thanks, Lisa. This would be great if I only had 2 kids! I'll check the website and see if they've added anything new...

The rate is always the same regardless if you have children or not. If you have over four people, then you pay an additional $15 per night for waterpark passes.

The family suite fits 6 :)

Thanks for the review. I am from L.I. also :wave2: and I am planning on taking the kids in December, hope it's not too crowded by then since it's school vacation!

Just checked for ressie's the week after Christmas for 2 nights, according to their website, they have only really expensive rooms that are still available, will cost me almost 900.00 for the 2 nights. I may rethink my plan and try for February instead. :guilty:

We were thinking February too (Presidents Week break), but if I remember correctly, it was pretty pricey then too. I did sign up for the Cub Club and it said that they send discounts during the child's bday month (his is in January), so hopefully we'll get a good discount!

Hmm...Don't mean to hijack this thread, but we do the Dells every January and have stayed at Wilderness and Kalahari (among others) but are trying Great Wolf for the first time in 2006. Will we be disappointed after staying at Kalahari?
I don't think the prices have come down much--we're spending about $600/three nights.
I always say we could save money by going to WDW instead! :rotfl: But we love those indoor waterparks--especially in January. We're hoping to someday try a new one in Illinois by Starved Rock--Grand Bear Lodge.

We've stayed at Wilderness Resort, Kalahari, and Greatwolf in the Dells and I would have to say none really compare to Kalahari. They're all fun though and a great getaway in the winter.

Thank you so much for posting about your stay and including pictures and details.

If you recall we are doing Great Wolf in PA over Thansgiving, got the discount for two nights and biting the bullet for one. Long story but after moving from our home for all our lives we just didn't want to do Thanksgiving in our new home. We are a close family but decided to take Thanksgiving elsewhere and this seemed like a great option. (I am doing the homecooked Turkey on Sunday afternoon, gotta have that and the leftovers!!)

I LOVED your pictures esp of the water park and your wonderful descriptions. I am considering upgrading from the family suite to one of the cabin suites but dh wants a fireplace. My dd's 10 and 8 would love the bunks with tv- I may call and see what the price difference is....

If you don't mind a couple of specific questions - my dd's love "kids club" type activities, do you remember if some of the activites would interest 10 and 8yo girls? What about the storytelling, while they would not wear PJ's I think they may lke the event, esp my 8yo. Should I consdier splitting up and sending my dh off with my 10 yo and doing the stories with my 8yo?

Any other advice tips and hints are greatly appreciated. I noticed you mentioned towels at the waterpark. Is there a charge for them and or would you recommend brining your own? Can you eat and or drink at the water park and if so can you bring a soft sided cooler?

Thanks again ~~

You are going to have a blast :) The family suite looked really nice (it looks nicer in real life than in the pics I think). My son kept saying how he wished we had a fireplace (go figure!). When I arrived they were still working on the rooms on the first floor with the doors open so we got to peek inside. I honestly didn't see any other kids in the Kids Club when we went. DS was the only child but they do have "make your own t-shirt" and "make your own pillowcase" souveniors for $15 each. I think those are available anytime. Some of the craft ideas seemed like they would be okay for that range though (beach bag, bookmark, picture frame, bear, etc.). I think they will really like the arcade, they have black lights in there and it seemed like most of the kids enjoyed it a lot.

As for the storytime, since it happens immediately following the clock tower show, there were children of all ages there. The story only lasts about 15 minutes and then they can go up and meet "Biko" the bear. The gentleman telling the story was really nice and was great with the children.

The towels are free (as are the life jackets). You can eat in the waterpark and there is a snack bar (and a real bar with adult drinks) in there. The sign to the waterpark entrance said no coolers are allowed so I don't think you could do that. If your cooler looks like a beach bag thing, or if you put it under your patio table you might be okay. I did bring my own water and juice boxes and a few snacks in my beach bag and no one said anything. One thing I did notice, and I could be wrong about it, but they sell beer and the beer bottles appeared to be glass from a distance. That made me nervous since everyone walks around barefoot, but they could've been really shiny plastic.

I forgot to mention that upon checkout they gave us a CD with the songs from the clock tower show on it. It's a cute CD and the songs remind me of songs you would hear at Disney. DS makes me turn it on everytime we are in the car, so I'm actually getting sick of it at this point LOL :flower:

I also forgot to mention there is a gift shop too and I thought it was pretty reasonably priced. I was able to get a t-shirt and cap that was bundled together for DS, a large pencil, a photo frame magnet and an activity book for $19.xx total, so I thought that was pretty good.

Wow thanks for the quick answer - I think my dd's will love the cub club then, that sounds perfect for them to do a craft or two. I also think my 10yo will just deal with story time, fact is she loves that type of thing but hates to admit it. We will all love the arcade - dd's and I have an ongoing skeeball rivalry and I read they have some so the game is on!!

Thanks for the info on the water park, we do have a beach bag with a cooler compartment and yes I simply wanted to bring in some pretzels, water bottles and kiddie type stuff. They don't even care if it is warm and I am so used to trying to avoid the $2.00 for water problem we always bring some.

Your DS looks soooo cute in his PJ's, it looks like he had lots of fun as well. He reminds me of my nephew who lives in FL and we miss him like crazy!!

Thanks again -

Thanks :flower:

Thanks so much for posting this. I was thinking about taking my son next Jan. or Feb. but was thinking it may be to kiddie. (He's 14)

After reading this thread, I think he'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the post and GREAT pics. Planning on taking DS here for his bday this winter. :cool1:

I'm taking 3 of my kids tomorrow! We loved the one in Williamsburg, so I'm thrilled one opened up that's fairly quick to get to.

We've been to the original Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells (Great Wolf is a chain) and it's a really nice set -up. I know the management group, and they plan on building more...so GWL could be coming to your town soon!

My boyfriend and I want to go, but I am not sure if there are enough slides for 2 kids-at-heart adults to do. But I do love lazy rivers.

We leave Wednesday for Thanksgiving at Great Wolf in the Poconos. Dd's know we are going to the Poconos for Thanksgiving but thats about it. We told them we will do some hiking and misc things and dh said it has an indoor pool and they were thrilled about that. I can't wait until they see the "indoor pool!!

We are new to the area I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of restaurants we could try for lunch or dinner on Friday and Saturday, sights not to miss (or sights to miss!!) Thanks!

I am planning to call tomorrow to see what they have going for Thanksgiving dinner and a few other questions.

just bumping . . . anyone who has recently stayed at a GWL have a review? This place looks like a great idea for grandparents to spend a few days with little ones who are different ages - looks like there is something for everyone to enjoy!

they are building one of these right around the corner from where i live..i cant wait for it to open..

We have been to the one in Sandusky,OH and the kids LOVED IT!! It is so nice that it is only a half hour away from us. We have 2 other indoor waterparks in the area too.
