Wow, we loved it there!!!! I took DS (6) and we had an AWESOME time!! We booked the "Kid Cabin" suite, for a rate of $229 plus tax (total was $498 for the two nights). We checked in Friday around 1:30 P.M. Check in was smooth and there was no line. There was a sign that said "if you are using a debit card, please let the clerk know", so I did. She said that they authorize $110 per day on the card if debit is used, so she gave me the option of not using a card and that I just wouldn't have room charging priveledges, which was fine with me. Then we were issued our wrist bands which also double as the room key which is VERY cool! No keys to lose, you just hold your wrist up to the door and it opens. So we made our way to our room, very long walk as we were all the way at the end of the building. The room was super clean, I think we were the first to stay in it since they just opened the day before. It was spacious and the decor was outstanding. There was a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker and coffee cups. We brought some snacks and breakfast items from home.

Then we headed to the water park. It's 84 degrees in there and pretty humid. It was nice though since it was pretty cold outside. There was maybe 25 people in the water park on Friday, no lines at all. They have towels in the waterpark for free as well as life jackets for the kiddies. The water slides were great, not too scary for DS but I think his favorite was the wave pool and the water playground area. They have a waterslide roller coaster, but you have to be 48" tall for that so we didn't go, but everyone was raving about it. Saturday was really busy in the waterpark, there were hundreds of people. Sunday morning was semi busy, but the annoying part was that they were short staffed for lifeguards and the lazy river was closed and the kiddie area was also closed for a couple of hours. Also, since the tubes are taken in the wave pool, there was a short supply of "single rider" tubes for the waterslides, which was a little annoying, but eh, we just used the doubles. I took a bunch of pics of the waterpark with my waterproof camera and when I get them developed, I'll post. They do have waterproof digital sony cameras you can rent for free. They just require a deposit. I opted not to do that, as I didn't want to lose it. They will transfer the pics (holds 100) to a CD for $25 at check out.

As far as food options, they have a food counter in the water park, a quick serve restaurant outside of it that has Pizza Hut ($4.50 for an indv. pie) and some other quick fare items (salads, pastries, candy, etc.). The main restaurant features a buffet only breakfast which was tasty ($9.99 adults, 5.95 child). They also serve lunch (we ate off site for lunch), and dinner, which again is a buffet, or they have a few ala carte items, which ranged in price from $8.99-$11.99. The dinner buffet is $13.99 for adults and $5.95 for kids). The food wasn't that great for dinner (salad bar was good) and the service is awful in the restaurant so hopefully they fix that. At breakfast this morning we were only charged for my meal and drink, so I think they were comping people for the slow service. I noticed there is a diner right outside the property and a Friendly's a few miles down the road too.

At night they have a show at the clock tower at 8pm and 9pm. It lasts about 10 minutes, then they have story time by the fireplace and "Biko" the bear (a costumed character) joins a staff member who reads the story to the kiddies in their PJs. Very cute!!

The Cub Club is on the same level as the waterpark and they do crafts from 11-7pm. Some are free, and some cost $5-$7. We made a beach bag for $5, which turned out cute. They also give the kids a free bracelet for signing up to be a Cub Club member. DS lost his in the waterpark the second day, so they gave us a new one (don't wear it in the park, eventhough it's waterproof because the snaps don't withstand the activity). They have games and checkers that can be checked out at the front desk. There is also a scavenger hunt you can do to get a prize. The front desk will give you the form.

The gameroom was great! They have a lot games that you can win tickets on and the amount of tickets needed for good prizes are pretty reasonable. We spent about $20 in there and DS really loved it.

The shopping outlets are less than a mile away so we spent a couple of hours there on Saturday. There is no sales tax on clothing in PA, so combined with the Gap sales I did pretty good!

We also visited the American candle/candy shop that is located off route 611 (you can see it off I-80, it looks like a red barn). I definately recommend stopping there on the way home. They have tons of old fashioned candy, choclate and great smelling candles and knick knacks.

Overall we LOVED this place!! We are already planning to go back! I want to go for Turkey Day :flower:

Here some pics I took. Just click on the picture and it will take you into the slide show. There is no need to sign in unless you want to save the pics in your account :)

We have a Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells. Sign up for the web page and they will send you deals. I like to go like the 1st week in June, when it isn't so busy in the Dells, but yet you can use the indoor and outdoor water activites. I paid for a family suite $150, which included breakfast in the morning, plus it also included a free pizza. I think the Lodge is more for kids 14 and under, if we didn't have the outside water park last summer, my older kids would of been bored to death.

Also the water park closes at 10:00 at nite which is a bummer especially for the older adults who would like to sit in the hot tubs-(I didn't care, sort of have a phobia about hot tubs anyways.)

Great report! We hope to go to the one that is in Michigan.

I signed up on their page, but I don't think it will ever be that cheap here!! COL is expensive in this area :( My $224 a night rate was the deal ;)

The hot tub was great, but there were so many kiddies in it. I tried not to think about how much pee I was sitting in LOL. They did have an adults only though, but since I had DS that was off limits :teeth: I was surprised to even see a newborn in the hot tub in the moms arms.

We have a Great Wolf Lodge about 25 minutes away from where we live in Traverse City MI. We've haven't been to it yet but we are going to go the first part of next year. Even though we live so close it will be like a mini vacation for the kids, especially the water park since it will be snowing and freezing outside! :cold:
I've been in one of the rooms and they seem very nice. The waterpark looks like alot of fun. The whole place just seems great. The one here was running a special in the local paper for a family suite for $169 a night. Don't know if that's still on or not. Saw it last week I think.

Very important question: Was the water in the water park attractions warm?

We hate going inside cool water indoors. If the water is warm, we'll be visiting it!

I'm taking it from your post that the place is near the Crossings outlet mall. We're less than an hour from it then!

Glad you had fun! We went to the one in Williamsburg and loved it. We are going to go to the Poconos one sometime in Dec. or Feb.

Oh yes, the water is really warm! That was my concern too, that I would be freezing but honestly, sometimes I was really hot!

Thanks for the report! I've been looking at their website and would love to go for Thanksgiving, but $400 for the night (kid cabin room) with no meals is a little steep for Turkey day!
I have a question for you though... I was wondering, since you need to check out by 11:00 a.m., and your waterpark pass is good all day, is there a shower/changing area that you can use if you choose to stay for a few hours after you check out?

They have locker rooms in the water park with showers and lockers. The lockers are small so I just kept my stuff in a plastic bag inside my beach bag on my beach chair. I left my "valuables" locked in my car after I checked out. There are three showers and then benches outside the shower stall. Each stall is "semi-private" with concrete walls in between. The showers have no curtains just so you know (maybe they are putting some up though?) .

Our Great Wolf Lodge has been here about 5 years and I think they are experiencing a lot of competition, since about 6 new water park hotels opened up in the Dells area. There is on resort called the Kahalari and it makes The Great Wolf Lodge look like a baby pool area compared to what they have. I think that is why prices are starting to finally come down.

I used to say, that you could stay in a luxury resort at WDW for the price of some of the water resorts over in the Dells. I know some people that pay $450 a nite on weekends over in the Dells, that is crazy.

Hmm...Don't mean to hijack this thread, but we do the Dells every January and have stayed at Wilderness and Kalahari (among others) but are trying Great Wolf for the first time in 2006. Will we be disappointed after staying at Kalahari?
I don't think the prices have come down much--we're spending about $600/three nights.
I always say we could save money by going to WDW instead! :rotfl: But we love those indoor waterparks--especially in January. We're hoping to someday try a new one in Illinois by Starved Rock--Grand Bear Lodge.

Would young teens be happy in the waterparks?

Sounds great but I have to keep looking for a discount rate. That's a good rate you got for a weekend. How big was the room you had - enough for a family of five?

There were quite a few teens there and they seemed to be having fun. I think they would really like the water roller coaster.

The room was pretty big. 2 could sleep in the bunk beds, 2 in the queen size bed and there was a sofa bed that would sleep 2 as well. of course, it's just a six year old and I, so I thought we had plenty of room, but I think it would be fine for five. There is only one six drawer dresser though, but there is plenty of room for suitcases (under the bunk beds, in the area near the safe, on top of the dresser, under the counter with the microwave, and under the sink).

You can stay 2 nights in the Family Suite for $419 total. This includes Turkey Day Buffet for 2 adults and 2 kids.

That rate is only good from the 22-24th. You would be checking out on Thanksgiving. I was excited to see that promo the other day until the dates I plugged in (24-26) wouldn't work, so I called and she confirmed it was only the 22-24. Bummer!

Thanks, Lisa. This would be great if I only had 2 kids! I'll check the website and see if they've added anything new...
