Just got back from a week at the GF RPC. Our room was beautiful, the food at the lounge was great and plentiful, and the staff in general was courteous and helpful. In fact in one case they went way over the top and comped our dinner at Shula's.I love this resort and have always had a great experience there. I will answer any questions.

We just got back from GF-SLC today. We second the opinions. We had a wonderful room, excellent castmembers helping us all the time, excellent snacks in the lounge. Only negatives were those guests coming down for breakfast in their robes and PJs. We didn't see this at AKL Concierge in June, so I found it hard to believe that people would do this. Maybe I can answer questions about Sugar Loaf.

I also got back a few weeks ago from GF RPC, one of the best times we had. THe staff and service was great. I'm just soooooo sad to be home.

Welcome back, everyone and I'm glad you all had such wonderful vacations! It's so nice to read some rave reviews of GF concierge for a change. We love the GF and I almost decided not to stay concierge there (on a future visit, some day :D ) because of so many negative reviews. I guess I'll try it after all!

Please, tell us more...:Pinkbounc

Welcome back. We were at RPC in December, so this was not an issue, but I was wondering how the air conditioning is in the main building? I remember reading posts last year stating that the rooms were not cool enough.
Thanks!!
Chris

Now that you mention it, our room in Conch Key last October was not as cool as I would have liked it. I soon realized that the thermostat monitored movement in the room and would keep the AC on only when movement was detected! So, even though DH laughed at me every night, as long as I was awake watching TV in the evening, I would get up and jump around every 10 minutes so that the AC would kick on again - it was crazy! :p I'd make sure to hop around a bit right before turning out the lights, but if I awoke dring the night, it was not as cool as I prefer it to be - only about 78, and at home we keep it at 72 while we sleep.

Yes, that right. When theres no movement in the room the air stops to a certain degree. Whenever we came back from one of the parks my dh complained to me about it. He likes it when the room is 65-68 degrees. I'm always freezing because of him. It didn't bother me too much though. My dd can never sit still, so it was usually always on for us when we were in the room. At night it did get alittle warm. I remember the CR has this also from last years trip. I guess this is one way disney tries to cut down on some electric bills. So if you want the air on at all times, just jump up and down from time to time.(LOL)

Thanks!! I remember reading a past thread about overriding the thermostat, but the search function is down!!
Chris

Our room was reading 76 degrees on the thermostat when we checked into our room. I turned it down but when we came back that night it was up around 74 again. And you'r eright - its because the sensor detected no movement in the room. There is an override function that was showed to me by a maintenance CM last year. In the scheme of things though, this was no problem at all ( the room temp I mean)

Do you remember the override function? I really don't want to spend my evening hours dancing the jig again!

As I recall, you have to hold down the far left key and the temp down key at the same time. The display will then read:6P. after a few seconds, you should be able to reduce the temp and it will function normally (without the sensor).

LOL.. another DIS'er had the suggestion to take your camera to the lounge and start taking pictures of them.. when they ask, just say...

"They are for my Disney Webpage ~ No One will BELIEVE guests come to the lounge in their jammies... I need proof!" :p

Thanx for the great GF reports everyone :)

That is so tacky. I wonder if they even bothered to wash their faces and brush their teeth? Ugh! It takes a few minutes to pull on a top and pants.

Maybe I can answer questions about Sugar Loaf.

What kind of foods did they serve? What room did you have? I'm still trying to decide if we should get a pool view or a marina view.

This was so great to read. I go August 31 - September 7 to the sugar loaf concierge. I am one of those unwashed masses (though even I plan to wash, dress and definately to be polite in the lounge) who never had heard of concierge and found it offered with the FTP for only $70 a night more than a regular room, and am excited to have the opportunity to experience the service. I struggled mightily at the time with the choice, as polynesian lagoon view concierge was offered for only slightly more, YC Concierge, BW Concierge were even offered for less. And then was hearing all the negatives about GF Concierge. I think from reading here, and good comments and bad about various concierge services, that for the most part it must be a luck of the draw as to who works there and how they act, and as well, how you act would effect even the most giving of cast members. Walking off with a couple of bottles of wine and plates and plates filled with sweets to your room to 'get your money's worth' as I have heard some seeing happen will sour anyone toward you no matter what mood they wish to have (and perhaps sour a smile toward others for some cast memebers). My GF and I have no idea what to expect, but we do wish to enjoy the food and amenities as we have gone to disney often enough that enjoying the hotel some will be nice, but we have booked one meal a day (we are not big eaters especially) thinking as some said making meals out of offterings is going far and in the end it sounds to be not about the meals but the service. Otherwise why ever dine at a fine restaurant, McDonalds will fill you just as much. Another note, the cast memebers who have helped with the reservations thus far have been spectacular. Twice I have spoken for over 20 minutes getting questions asked, and dining reservations done and they were not only friendly but seemed to be as excited as I was about things (especially suggesting places for giving a ring, she and I have been together for 12 years and it really seems the perfect time). My first call to them I told them that I had gotten resservations for fireworks night at california grill but that they could not guarentee a window seat and he told me that 'you have one now'. And I could literally hear the smile in his voice. One thing that we may do is ask for an upgrade for a price to the RPC when we arrive. It was offered for one day at an additional $70 a night to the FTP ($140 over a regular room, $70 more than SL) and by the time I asked my GF it was sold out, and would cost $120 a night, a bit steep. If when we arrive they still have it for the $70 or less we will take it, and still have the advantage of the preplanning done already. Well, this is a long post, but the long and short of it is that I appreciate the reassuring comments here, and if the first impressions of how much trouble the cast members have gone to for me before even arriving are any indication it will be special.
