Well- I'm back, and already planning again for next year. But I thought some of you might like to know what my view of the BCV's and BWV's is.
We arrived at the BCV's on Sunday at 9:30 am. Of course- our room was NOT readym but had already been assigned and there was NO changing the location of the pre-assigened room. We did not get into our room until 3:00- which is early by the technical check in standards. I requested an EPCOT view on a top level- NS for medical reasons. I got 2 of the 3 requests. We were in room 434- top floor - NS. It was a dedicated 2 bedroom overlooking the pool and the entrance into the BC to the left. The view was beautiful and in the evenings we could see the fireworks from Wishes at the MK- I was impressed with the condition of the room, but can understand why people have written about lack of water pressure and the thermostat. It was either too hot or too cold- we could never really get the temp. just right in there. Both of these problems to me were minor- because I could open the door to the balcony and a greta breeze would flow through! OH! I almost forgot- this room had one big balcony- it went the length of the room from the MBR- to the LR- to the 2nd BR, each room having a set of sliding glass doors. It was great. We enjoyed our stay here, but plan on writing a letter to the management of the hotel and to the DVC about the condition if the furniture in the lobby of the BCV"s. It was very worn and dirty. The piping on the sofas was thread bare and you could see the plastic piping sticking through and many of the seat cushions on the wicker were filthy. Does anyone know if there is a plan to refirbish the lobby area of this hotel? In comparison, the lobby to the BWV's was clean- we sat there for 6 hours waiting for our room to be ready and while we were there a cleaning person was almost constantly in that lobby dusting or sweeping or arranging pillows on the sofas. The sofas were in good repair and the chairs were pretty clean- but they could've used a light cleaning as well. At this resort we were assigned to room 4057- I LOVED THIS ROOM>! It over looked the center courtyard and the ESPN side of the Boardwalk. It was a studio- and very clean. In the evenings you could see the high fireworks from Illuminations and the fireworks from Wishes. The boardwalk was so enjoyable to watch as it was always busy- especially on Sunday for the playoffs- and it was fun to hear people laugh and see the little kids on the grass of the courtyard playing football. I will in the future request a room in that area again.
So now, I have a question. Does anyone know why they cannot clean the rooms of people who have checked in early before they clean rooms of people that haven't checked in? I know check in is not until 4pm- but they have preassigned rooms. If they know someone has arrived and checked in, why can't they get to those room first (barring that someone hasn't checked out of it yet) ?

Thanks for the great report. Glad you had a good time.

As to the order of preparing rooms, two thoughts come to mind. One is that the housekeepers may work as teams preparing blocks of rooms rather than one individual doing each room. They all have to get done (theoretically by 4:00 p.m.) and running around from room to room on different floors might slow them down.

The seond thought is that maybe they are doing the rooms for people who have checked in. Just because you are sitting in the lobby waiting for your room to be ready doesn't mean that there aren't 10 families who checked in before you who are out at the parks waiting for their rooms.

I'm curious why you sat in the lobby for so long?

karebear,

What specific area of BCV are you saying looks runddown? Are you referring to the BC lobby? BCV doesn't have a lobby area.

I too wondered why you were waiting in the lobby for six hours. I could have found LOTS of things to do, even if the parks were not in my plans. I would have spent time on the Boardwalk, at DTD, or just ridieng the transportation to the the other resorts for something to do.

Part of the problem too is that some people checkout early and some wait until 11:00. It's possible your assigned room was not vacated until 11:00 for them to start working. They do try to get into the rooms as soon as they can. I know when we were checking out from BWV last month, it was about 10:00am and I called the bellman to come pickup our bags. I took the "privacy" sign off the door and a housekeeper knocked on our door within 5 minutes to see if we had gone. When she saw us still there she apologized, I told her we would be leaving as soon as the bellman arrived (we were going straight to the car and to the airport).

Glad you had a great time! And it sounds like both rooms were great!

Why did you say that there was no changing your assigned room at BCV? Did you try to change it? Did they tell you where it was located (obviously not the room #) and you were hoping to get that Epcot side? Just wondering because we are staying there in december and I requested the same as you.

I agree about the cleaning of the rooms. I would like the checkin time to be earlier (especially having a toddler who takes naps ;) ) If the front desk told me they would have my room ready earlier for an added fee I would absolutely pay it. Hey now there's an idea!

Concerning the BCV's lobby comments- I was talking about the BC lobby- sorry I wasn't clearer. I guess I associate the two (BC and BCV's) as one and therefore have a concern about the condition of the furniture in the lobby of the BC.
Concerning the rom type- I did ask , once I found out that the room we were getting did not have an EPCOT view, if there was a room available with an EPCOT view, and was told no, one was not available. Which, was a little frustrating because I made the ressie for the room at the 11 month window. BUT I know that you can't always get what you want, and the room we had was wonderful, with a fantastic view, so I didn't make a big deal about it.
Second- I sat for six hours because I couldn't lay down! I could hardly walk because my back was out- which, I am sure, made the waiting all the more miserable! Believe me, if I coulda I woulda! The week before my DH and I went down to the boardwalk while waiting and watched the marathon runners. It was very inspirational and uplifting to see all those people running- and many others cheering them on. But one good thing about sititng for that long is that it at least relieved the strain on my back and by Monday afternoon Iwas able to get out and about again. It also gave me the chance to read a book- probably the first one I've read in several years~ Thank heaven the store in the BWV lobby had books!
I kinda doubt that they try cleaning rooms of guests that have already checked in because there was at least one other family that called prior to their early arrival and asked if their room would be ready- they had a sick child and needed to get into a room asap. The CM told them no problem that their room would be ready in 30 minutes. Their room wasn't ready until 3:45 some 4 hours after they were promised they could get into a room. And I thought about the impracticality of trying to get rooms cleaned for guests that had already checked in, but it seemed to me that they could assign a pair (or 2) of mousekeepers to each floor specifically to clean rooms for early check-ins.
