I will make this as short as I can, with a more detailed report to come later. All I can say is that we experienced several highs and a few lows, but overall the trip was a refreshing break. I mean how could you turn down days in November with the temps in the low to mid 80's?
I'm happy to say that there doesn't appear to be any loss in service quality from ATA for those of you flying with them in the near future. Our flight there and back to Midway was fine with the exception of minor turbulence and a security breach at Midway that forced us to divert to Indianapolic for an hour.
On our way into the BCV, we received a warm "Welcome Home" from the security guard at the gate. Our first low was encountered regarding room check-in. I have been giving the staff at BCV the benefit of the doubt with all of the negative postings coming in regarding BCV, but I have now had a less than desirable experience myself. It seems as though you don't get the same story from two different attendants. We were traveling with both sets of GPs, and so we had 3 separate rooms to check into. My DW went to help check her parents in while I checked my parents in. The lady taking care of us said that we had to go to the concierge desk to get UPHs added onto my parents' room key. I found this to be odd, but maybe a change in policy had been made since the last time we used UPHs. I said fine, but then I found out that the desk agent that checked in my in-laws did it right then and there. Hmm...well, I guess no big deal.
Next came the real bummer. As I figured, getting to the resort at 11:30 A.M. would probably mean the rooms weren't ready, and that was confirmed. So, we trekked over to ESPN for some lunch, and then we called back at about 2:45 to check on the rooms. Still, none of the rooms were ready. That's ok as 4:00 is the time stated. Well...after walking around the Boardwalk for a bit we came back to BCV at about 3:45. At that point I discovered my parents room was ready, but the other two weren't. So we dropped off all the luggage into my parents' room and waited another 1/2 hour and called back down to the desk. It was now 4:20, and I had a 4 yo and 2 yo that had been up since 3:00 A.M. with only a short nap in them. Finally, my In-Laws' room was ready, but still no go on our 1 BR. After 3 calls back down to the front desk we finally got into our room at 6:30!!! Not acceptable at all. The only thing that kept me from really going off, was the fact that all three rooms were in very good shape.
I am happy to report that the A/C was working almost too good. It really was cool in our rooms to the point where we had to bump the temp up. The water pressure was fine, and there was plenty of hot water. The only problem with our room that I found was a missing cover to the battery compartment of the tv remote.
One tip I'd like to pass along to everyone. On your checkout day, make certain to put your "Privacy Please" sign on your door, otherwise you will be getting a knock early in the morning from housekeeping wanting to get into your room to clean. This happened to us last year, and it happened to my parents this year.
