Just back from ASMusic

Just got back from ASMusic. If anyone has any ????'s, ask away. The only thing of note that I'll say right off is that it appeared that only Calypso, Jazz (where we were) and one Broadway building were in use. It also looked like ASSports had several buildings/areas out of use. It didn't look like refurbishment, just that the crowd wasn't big enough to use all the buildings. Although I'm sure that changed after we left as when we were leaving, several charter buses full of kids were pulling in. We didn't visit Movies, but I'm pretty sure all their buildings were in use judging by the crowds at the bus stop each AM (never saw such lines for buses!).

I will be staying at the ASMU in September, it has been a while since I have stayed at the AS, last time was in 1995 at the ASSP,
did you have a chance to eat at the food court? If so how was it, was there a good selection. How was the bus service, you indicate that there crowds in the am. How about leaving the parks? Generally what resort did the buses stop at first?
How was housekeeping?
Sorry I have so many questions, I am a bit nervous about my choice.

DF and I are staying at ASMu from Sept 28 - Oct 5. Definitely interested in hearing anything and everything about your stay!

We did eat at the food court and it was pretty good -- sandwiches, pasta, pizza, salads, cereal, ice cream, cake, etc. Our only complaint was that one of the stalls was closed for the entire week we were there. So that cut down somewhat on the selection. Again, didn't look like refurb, just that there weren't enought people to justify opening it. We've been before when all the stalls are open, and there was definitely a smaller selection this time. But we did OK.

The bus service was very efficient -- we've been before and found no difference this trip. We shared buses with Sports and Movies the entire stay. Never enough people to just attend to one resort. First stop is always sports, followed by Music then Movies. There were never any lines at sports or music (at least not enough to fill a bus) but Movies was another story altogether. Was I gald I wasn't staying there!!! Almost every AM, no matter what park we were going to, the bus just couldn't fit everyone from movies on the bus. There were always leftovers for the next bus. But when we would get on at music, hardly anyone else was getting on and it had very few people on it from sports. Movies must have been jammed! Leaving the pasrks was good. We rarely had to wait for more than 15 min. for the next bus, even if the one ahead of us had just pulled out. The only exception was one day at EPCOT where we had to wait 40 min. But that was a screw up in communication and the transit guy at EPCOT came over and apologized to the line.

Housekeeping was fine. We had to ask for extra soap and it came right away and were were drowned in towels. I guess they expected us to use quite a few in the pools/water parks, so we always had like five extras in the room. That was weird -- I've never seen such towel overkill before! As always at the All-Stars they don't go too much out of their way, but I did see some people on our floor who had arrangements of animals and toys in the windows that I assume were done by the maid. Our room was clean and neat every day and at check in, so no complaints.

The piano pool was still closed for refurb, but the crowds were so light that the big pool was never that jammed. The only time I saw it really bad was our last night around 10:00. But it seemed to be a large group all together. But the afternoons we practically had it to ourselves.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, but then we always do. We've done all the AllStars and never been disappointed. They're not as loaded with ammenites as the deluxes, but for all the time we're in the room, it doesn't matter to us. And at $59/night with the AP rate, who can complain!!

Hope this helps

Disneefun, did you go to AKL from the AS and how lomg did it take?

We did not do that this trip. We did it once before and it was a pain. It depends on what time of day you want to go. If it's during the day when Animal Kingdom park is open, you can take the bus from AS to AK then switch to the bus for AKL. If you can hit it right, that trip can be as little as 30 min (if the bus is basically waiting for you when you walk up) as AS and AKL are both close to AK. At night it's another story because you have to take the bus from AS to Downtown Disney (or another open theme park) and then switch to the AKL bus. This is really going out of the way because AS is on the same end of property with AKL so you're really going "out and back". This can, at bad times, take two hours if you don't hit it right and have to wait or the bus is full or whatever. Then you have to reverse the trip on the way back. This is why most times we go, we rent a car. Then we can do whatever. Hope this helps.

We too just returned from our stay at the Movies. As always we request Mighty Ducks so that we zip over to the Music food court in the morning. The food court was so quiet, it was nice. Movies was pretty packed, both resort and food court. I agree about the buses. We don't use the buses at all, but one morning we came out of the store and the line for MK for early morning had to have 75 or more people in it. I watched as the bus came and left and most of the folks were still left standing at the stop. I just couldn't believe the Disney did not have an extra bus to pick up the others (which would have filled the entire bus). I can't imagine how long the line was when the next bus came, but doubt that many of these folks enjoyed early entry that day. Made me glad we don't use the buses.
