Just back from AKV Concierge - Any questions?

No I'm not kidding - there wasn't much animal activity on that side last week. Although we did get to see an Ostrich attack one of the zookeepers and start chasing him around - that was an interesting sight!

I agree with Squidrific.

I reported the same experience in my trip report regarding the animal activity on the Kudu Trail from our Concierge 1 bed 6202. We stayed 6 nights and we did not go to the parks at all so we were in our room most of the day and we had a very similar experience. The Ostriches seem to like that area the most, the others only came by briefly and it was only when food was out. Many mornings I took my breakfast on the patio to watch the animals and there was an Ostrich if I was lucky and in the evenings I would take my wine and same thing. We did see the zebras, giraffes, but they were out around 3pm and only stayed long enough to eat and run:goodvibes

We had much better views from our Savannah view studio on the 5th Floor in July.

We still enjoyed our Concierge stay and have a studio booked for Sept after our cruise.:wizard:

Squidrific, thank you for the report! I met some very nice ladies that I shared the Sunrise Safari with that stayed in 6205 in December.:wizard:

You are kidding right? We were in 6202, which is the 1br HA concierge savanna view with the roll in shower. We actually like the shower, but we don't have children we would need to bath. As far as animals, every day we watched 3 giraffe, 3-4 zebras, several cattle and elk, 3-4 ostrich and all sorts of birds roam around. It must have been the time you were watching because we were amazed at how many animals we saw. One of the main feeding spots is right below these rooms and you can't get a better view of them.

There are cattle and zebra on the Sunset savanna now? They have only been on Arusha in the past. No elk anywhere, that I know of.

Exactly! We saw 2 giraffes during feeding time and a zebra once, but we were on the patio a great deal of the time and only saw the crowned crane and the ostrichs the majority of the time.

Our first stay at AKL (in 2003??) was on the Sunset Savanna and we had ankole cattle camped out near our room every night. There were no zebras though. On one of our stays on Arusha, we didn't see any ankole cattle the whole week. I even made a tour around the entire horseshoe looking for them and couldn't find them anywhere.

I wonder if they move some animals to different savannas, perhaps because different groups of animals are not getting along or because they have devoured all the landscape within reach and it needs time to recover???

Do they allow you to take the food back to your room (from the lounge) so you can enjoy breakfast on your balcony?

We did that every day and no one said anything. Actually there were a couple of days that the lounge was full so it is nice to be able to walk back to your room and just sit on the patio and watch the animals outside instead of the animals inside. ;)

Quick question: are soft drinks and beers always available in the concierge lounge? Do you have to ask for them or is there a fridge they are in?

Thanks!

No they are not always there. But all you have to do is ask. Soda isn't out in the morning but I just asked each morning, after the first morning when I saw someone ask, and I was able to have my breakfast soda. Beer wasn't out in the morning and the one night that we did the dessert, it wasn't out. But again, all I did was ask.
